Chalamet was being humble and probably half joking when the MTV interviewed him about the popularity of himself and Ansel Elgort in the La Guardia High School, for saying that Ansel Elgort was more popular because he got the musical leads back in their high school days, but the moderator really didn't do much homework to bring up that question in a slightly awkward way here. It only takes five minute google search to know that Chalamet was also cast as the lead in Sweet Charity and Cabaret, as Oscar and The Emcee, respectively, in the musical productions for the high school. You can tell that Chalamet struggled a bit to respond to that question as it's not the right place to tell the truth that he also got cast as leads in musicals back in his high school days, as he'd come across as defensive or even bragging. Call Me by Your Name is not his first lead role after graduating from the high school either. He's the lead in the small indie, One and Two, arguably a co-lead in Miss Stevens, another indie, and he's also the lead of the off-Broadway play, Prodigal Son, for which he won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play. His track record in the professional life is right there. It's one thing to joke on the red carpet about you and your friend's popularity in the high school, it's another to be treated as though that you are not really as talented as your peers and you just hit the jackpot with your first lead role in your career at a film festival where honoring your breakthrough performance that won you an Oscar lead actor nomination. Just a little bit of homework on the moderator's side would save all the awkwardness.
Agreed and he is already a self loathing guy. He would never be the one to correct the mistake. Interviewers need to do their homework before they interview anyone. It is disrespectful towards the interviewee otherwise.
Cari thank you I ageee Timmy is self loathing. I know a lot of people says he’s humble but he’s been putting himself down in almost every interview I see of him. It’s kind of sad
Timothée's self-deprecating charm is soooo endearing! I love how he mistakenly believes no one knows who he is when he has been nominated for and/or won every major acting award on the planet for his role in CMBYN!
Oliver4 Elio I’ve been watching his Instagram account and it went from about 300,000 a month ago now up to close to 800,000 so he’s right on his way... He’s just so likable and such a good role model
He was different in this interview, he was playing with his tongue all the time and wasn't giving long complex answers as he always does. It's so easy to read his body language. Maybe he's in love or something, or just nervous. What am I doing, analyzing some strangers behavior like that lol love you timmy
I noticed it too he kept looking at someone in the audience lol Maybe it was the girl from the Q&A he fell in front of in New York and he probably didn't want to mess up this time ;)
He's looking for the exit..it's up to the interviewer to keep the ball rolling,,,as I said above, it was like watching a dull tenis match he kind of hit the ball to Tim .Tim hit it back..instead of the aponant hitting it back to Tim, caught it and held. It with a dumbass look on his face... it kept happening..I thought Tim was having the problem, but then my feed, fed me another interview with that host and Kumail...The same discomfort....it's the hosts job, to keep the ball rolling, not the guests...who is that jerk???
3:11 Interviewer: "since you brought u brought it up what was your reaction when you found out about the peach sceen?" Timmy awkwardly responds: "Well..haha I was like.. this is what I been waiting for!... you know... hehehe ah.. haha ....ha.. " (bites his lip) (waits awkwardly for next question) I can't handle him♡♡♡♡♡
Nancy Ces as I said above, it's the hosts job to keep the conversation going..Tim answered and the host had nothing to say....left Tim hanging..it was like hitting the ball over the net and your aponant catches it instead of hitting the ball to you you..Tim has never had problems with that question....who is the host??
Ditto! Did you happen to see when Jimmy Fallon had a Timothee Chalamet puppet on his show I laughed hysterically. I would love to have a little Timothee Calamet puppet.
reimond vincent I just don't picture, Tim going into Gucci to shop...I'm sure, if he went to that shop, wearing his ripped jeans and a tee shirt, the sales staff would shove him into a corner and ask him "hey kid, you don't look like you can afford to buy a Gucci shopping bag" or stop him at the door and say "sorry, cbut our bathrooms are only for our coustomers"!!!haha.. they just don't look like he'd buy them for himself Tim, doesn't need those lables to win an Oscar..!
They way he was acting here and how he was acting in the group interview is completely different. I think maybe he's one of those people who does better in a group where he gets to share the spotlight and not have all the attention on himself.
Kayleigh L but he was quite comfortable in Jimmy fallon shows where he was alone.. here he awkwardly looking at the audiences, biting his lips 😜.. He's looking soooo adorable as always tho 😍♥
Fallon really showed his admiration for Timmy and for CMBYN. In both times he interviewed Timmy, his enthusiasm was just so endearing. I guess that helped Timmy relax a bit more, especially the second time.
I so hope he doesn't start taking stuff to cope with the tiredness or pressures or any other crap. He is so great as he is, and although he isn't a "child star", nevertheless, I worry. I hope Armie has talked this over with him. I say that because I feel Armie is clean, but what do I know? These are two talented, erudite guys who have so much to contribute. Please let them stay on the straight & narrow.
Chookas Chookas me too. I think Armie is pretty clean living except for his liking for weed. I believe Timmy who has a strong family support that he can depend on.
Chookas Chookas He talked about this on the podcast “Happy Sad Confused”, which was a long discussion. He said how he can see how other young actors went off the rails due to the pressure. Said Saorise told him “male actors lose their minds at 24. Don’t lose your mind.” Seems like he thinks about this a lot. Plus, in his next film he plays someone with a terrible addiction, so that probably helps keep his head on straight. But he’s gotta be exhausted. Hope he takes a break after the Oscars.
At the end he almost puts the mic down like near the glass of water n then stops himself he such a awkward lil cutie I love it his laugh is my religion don’t ask why
Yes! I love the film and the book, but I actually prefer the film's ending, I thought it was perfect. I would prefer if Luca uses Timmy for a new project since he likes to reuse his actors.
ELizabeth Grant You seem to have little faith in Luca, Timmy, Armie etc. plus the power of Sony. Yes there will be a great sequel even better than original maybe because there are creative people out there and they also love the film; but I wish they would do a directors cut and use the leftover two hours and fill in the CMBYN details. What do you think?
How come no one mentions that this the High School from the movie FAME. It’s an iconic place! The New York kid in me would kill to have been able to go there!!!
Timothee so pure It gives you the feeling that you want to protect him I feel He's different in this interview I really hope he take a break after the oscar I hate the fact that fame changes people in one way or another I can't amagin " new timmy " I hope Tim be just like Leo , im fan of leo as human too , The way he protected his personal and emotional life , did not make it a controversial ,did not impinge on his work and his talent ..and must of all he did not allow insane fame affect his humility and pure spirit.. I hope our pure gift stay the same .. Just be safe , healthy and happy timmy you are loved ♡
He still has a baby face. This man will never age 😅 well they say sequel will come in 2025 or 2027. They want Timothee to age so that he will look older in the movie but trust me he will look the same like he is right now 😅
I did not consider weed but yeah you might be right maybe HAHA but he is genuinely a nervous person. He seems to looking at one specific person through the interview so he might be extra nervous.
Ang kulit nito! But honestly. he's the real deal. I've seen a lot of movies with same-sex themes and Timothee and Armie really nailed it in this. The story/book was amazing. but I've seen a lot of lgbt stories go downhill because of casting fails... or even the looks don't fit.. or the directing is too heavy, aggressive or too delicate.. but they miss little details that make a huge impact on screen. This was really a masterpiece.. cinematography, script, and the magic the actors brought in.
Oh omy Gosh how shy is he in real life I have seen his plenty interviews before but this one took the cake on his cute shy awkwardness it's like he didn't even dare to look in interviewers eye n due to his shy Nature it surprises me he took chance on his first major role as Gay/bi (still not sure) because Elios was with a guy n girl both so its really interesting how friggin great his action skills are 👏 n one last thing I sooooo want your movie to win in all four catagaries 🍻 After reading some stupid comments I like to add I know He is straight so grown-up n learn to behavior yourself on social media
R I don’t think he saw playing a bi/gay role as “taking a chance” especially because at an Italian q&a someone asked him if he likes boys and he said “no sexuality, just love” so he’s probably bisexual
anon I think that he's comfortable in his skin.ive heard some really dumb crap in interviews with Tim and Army..the worst, was CNN Christenia. Amenphor, addressing them with "as 2 straight men, playing homosexuals and kissing, was it uncomfortable"?????? WTF???..this is 2018, not 1990...all I could think of was googling "gay leading men who have won Oscars"???? the list was long...what's the big difference, between gay men, kissing woman on screen and straight men kissing each other on screen....it's all acting..i don't think, that Tim has defined his sexuality and it's none of our freaking business..,...it's like asking "you aren't a murderer in real life and you played one in the movie!!!! Was it uncomfortable???...WTF....NO, ITS GOOD ACTING...
Why is he SO nervous here?... He's been doing much better in interviews lately, but here it seems like he was back to the first couple of Q&As they did 9 months ago, when he could barely speak, and these are all the same questions he gets asked all the time.
Pussy cat kill kill I love him, don't get me wrong. I've been following Timmy for a long time, back when nobody had any idea who he was, and I've seen him grow up so much and become so much more comfortable in these type of situations, that's why I was wondering what was it about this one that got him so nervous, that's all.
Pussy cat kill kill He talked about it a million times already, in front of audiences both bigger and smaller than the one he's addressing here. He jokes about it every time he goes on stage to receive an award and in every interview, he's the one who brings it up, it's his thing. So no, that's not it. But anyway, let's leave him be.
I think he just thinking too much on how he want to make people enjoyed the interview and to stand out until at that point where he just lose focus and giving short answers or terrible respond like the question about the fly. he said in the interview kumail would totally kill this interview. He was trying too much to make people enjoy and laughing. Ive been in that place. Its a very terrible feeling
Evie Diane Yap!! I noticed the awkwardness too.. though this uncomfortable activities, gestures making him more adorable... Also here he's looking at the audiences, biting his lips awkwardly several times.. may be our baby cake has fallen in love ♥ 😜 or nervous at the surroundings.. :(
If there is a sequel I hope it’s with a different set of characters or they change it completely from the rest of the book. I was reading the book and I should have stopped where the movie did. The rest is just heartbreaking. I won’t spoil it it but it’s far sadder than the movie ending. In the sequel I’d like Elio to meet someone new and this time not be so shy and calculated about his feelings. An honest story.
Lorde Darius I got 4 hours in and quit listening to the audio book. I can't do it. The movie left me in such heartbreak, I couldn't do that to myself with the book too. I don't want to know. I'm just waiting on the sequel.
the fact that this interview was filmed where i live and i might know that person makes me go insane, also just realized this comment was from 2 years ago lmao hi 💀
I wonder why he was soooo nervous this time about the peach...?? He's not usually THAT awkward about it. The nervousness seemed to linger for the rest of the interview too. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Nervous too, I guess.
kris True though! Him being so awkward and nervous made me feel awkward and nervous! He was much more relaxed though when he was giving a speech at the next day for Saoirse..
Agreed it's cute and endearing, just seemed quite extreme this time compared to other times. I'm not criticizing him, rather speculating out of curiosity...and a little bit of concern, actually. haha
he is in the league of Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Marlon Brando and James Dean. I hope he does not get spoiled by some shitty netflixx productions... i love netflixx in general but some productions are really bad (acting-wise).. he should work with good directors only: e.g. Xavier Dolan..Pedro Almodovar... they should do a remake of Garbo's Queen Christina with him in the leading part... it will be a smashing success!
