Waiting around for biological parents to change means children get older and ultimately their chances of adoption diminishes. If then biological parents return to their inappropriate lifestyles the child will languish in foster care. Getting love and stability for children as soon as possible is more important than the rights of irresponsible parents.

It is arrogant to presume they are just irresponsible parents.

Pity Insight did not bother to invite adopted people to speak on this subject, seeing as we are the experts by lived experience. Pru Goward knows full well how adopted people are adversely affected, and the trauma, grief and loss they carry for life but she would rather side with pro-adoption lobby and turn children into commodities. In 2012 and 2013, The Australian federal govt and state governments apologized for former forced adoptions, due to the senate inquiry that revealed that crimes against mother and child occurred by forced separation. But one year on and she is ignoring these very significant apologies and basically turning her back on the 250,000 victims who's lives were destroyed. Stop making adoption into a fairy tale its not what you think. Adopted children suffered abused and mistreatment at the hands of adoptive parents, many of whom also fostered, It should be hard because the trauma of adoption is life long and generational. All adopted children have suffered loss, and suffer deep seated grief and are often made to feel grateful to the core, losing their true identity, heritage and culture. Why remove a child for life, when all children grow up, why should they be removed from all family members even from ones who never abused them.. No this is about money because Pru Goward approved the funding of $38,000 to be given to NGO's for every child they procure for adoption. In this case there is no incentive to help families work but rather to insure that children are removed by profit.

the 'system' is far too difficult for most parents to UNDERSTAND and many give up, not because they don't want to fight for their child/children which is often interpreted that way but more because they get frustrated in the procedure and are not educated enough to fully comprehend it all along with the mistakes and dishonest report writing by FACS case workers!

Adoption should not be made easier. Educated people seem to think they know whats best for these kids who are “unwanted” and “uncared for” by their own families. Unfortunately it’s just not that simple. Why is permanent placement with right to use placement parents name(legal license) not an option to give all sides the security they need while allowing the kids to also maintain their identities and not severing any ties with their birth families. I have a lifelong history with kids in care and know a number of adopted kids. These people (case workers/courts etc) seem to think once a child is adopted all problems are solved. In most cases other new problems are created. By making adoption easier we would create another stolen generation and repeat the mistakes history has shown us that we must not repeat. Too sad to think about. Just because a parent can’t care for a child does not mean the parent doesn’t want or love the child or for that matter the child doesn’t love their birth family. Stop “presuming” you know what is best for the child - only the child knows what is best for themselves and at some point may wish to be adopted but until then don’t cut the ties that make them who they are. Please.

Let's talk about child safety diry little secret. Kids who cant be placed going into residentials run by support workers. Terrible outcome for a child to live in these places. Often placed with other high needs kids, mismatched placements, no consistency, love or care. Just purely survival for these kids.
