This time a restore I completely battered Rolex that was worn every work day for over thirty years by 'Billy The Scaffolder' in London Town! The watch is now looked after by Cathal for whom I do this painstaking work.
The Vintage Rolex is a Reference 16000 and it is powered by a Rolex 3035 which can be tricky to work on at the best of times.

Even the Rolex Logo had been knocked loose and needed refixing to the dial!

Richard, absolutely delighted with the transformation of this! Never thought I’d see it in such good shape after Billy and myself struck a deal for it!!! I’m looking forward to making it my new daily wear and like many others here, I’m ecstatic to see the bracelet restored!!! Many thanks Cathal

Awesome to watch another restoration Richard. It's quite therapeutic watching the whole process, for me at least 😊. I commented last time about the scale of what we see on our TV as opposed to what you are actually dealing with! Be great to see a short video where you can perhaps describe just how tiny some of the parts actually are! Fantastic job and was good to see a few of Billy's battle scars on the case still after the polishing! Cheers 👌😎👌

Fascinating. Thank you. I have the same watch but with a blue face. Like this one I wore it continuously for decades until the bracelet snapped without me noticing. Luckily the watch fell into the shopping bag I was carrying!! I was in HK at the time and Rolex had a service centre there who repaired the bracelet for free but advised me to get it replaced asap and have it serviced, both of which were well overdue..

Richard, I love your videos however there are so many channels already that show movement cleaning and reassembly. What I think is more interesting is the time spent on the case and bracelet restoration. At least that’s how I see it. I hate to admit that I fast forward through most of the movement servicing so I can get to the case and bracelet part. Thanks for listening to my opinion. Also, I want to purchase one of your watches, I think they are smashing !

Hi @wannabe_sailor_777smith6 ... yes it's easy to get too focused on the movement and I am alive to this issue and will be doing a video soon on just the refurbishment of the bracelet alone. There is much skill in this discipline I think and if filmed correctly it can make for great (and relaxing) films. The Sea Wolf that I make under my own brand Major and that is shown in this video is here .... www.majorwatches.co.uk/sea-wolf-special-edition-steel .... stay tuned for case and bracelet refinishing action! Wonderful to see the watch brought back from being beaten to hell - I have to say though, that I'm almost more excited to hopefully see you go to work on the bracelet - i've seen many, many restorations of movements and cases, but it seems people either shy away from restoring bracelets for whatever reason - perhaps the special took you mentioned - but then, don't all watchmakers love accumulating quality tools (either buying them, or making their own...)

Nah, Rolex are meant to be worn and life lived with. All scaffolders out there, keep wearing your Rolex on the job!
@Treviscoe
@Treviscoe 9 месяцев назад
I understand your point but Rolex Oysters are built to take a hard life (which that one obviously had), so from that point of view it made sense to wear one on a scaffolding rig. Billy presumably wanted a watch that would stand up to the rigours of his job and keep on working, and he got one. I suppose the alternative, if you don't want to spend Rolex money on a watch, would be something like a Casio G-Shock.

What an immense undertaking. I am in awe with your delicate, but meticulous approach to a restoration of this gem. The case, and dial appear factory fresh. I am anxious to watch the service of the bracelet. This new tool has me intrigued. All this being said, I would not be able to work with the maniacal cackling of those birds. I found nothing pleasant about them. I would invite the serenity of a songbird's melody instead. Nevertheless, this episode was narrated calmly, but maintained purpose, Well done. Cheers!

Hi Alex ... Yes the bracelet video promises to be interesting! I like the Jackdaws which is a good job I guess as they are not about go anywhere I figure. I know what you mean about songbirds and I did happen upon some amazing birdsong during one of my walks in the spring and I took the precaution of recording it. So I guess, via the magic of audio, I could have some virtual song birds temporarily oust the Jackdaws in a future video! Stayed tuned sir! Richard

You can do what you want with your own watch, it's your property, but using a DateJust as a work watch when you're a scaffolder seems a bit foolhardy. Saying that the case did its job and protected the innards.
