I've been binge watching these videos for a few days now. It's unbelievable how valuable your channel and your videos are for someone like me who's still figuring out what types of paints and brands to use for airbrushing and how to take care of the airbrush itself. Prices have been raising pretty badly where I live so I'd have to pay an exorbitant amount of money if I tried just a quarter of the stuff you've tested, and the tests themselves are really well done and always show the thing that picked my interest in the product. Hopefully your channel keeps growing as it deserves so much more
'ProfitPotato', I'M getting ready to do this method TODAY 30 Oct 22P, on 'Vallejo Air' paint, I'll let you know how the "cleaner" goes....going to get myself some hot water!!! Stand-by.
YEAP .... it Does Work!! Hot water, doesn't need to be boiling, but you Might still need to dismantle the AB for a deep and clean carefully the needle.
I always wipe out the cup first, before I do anything else, that way I get rid of most of the paint, and then I start my cleaning process. I will definitely give this a try. I pull the needle back to make sure there is no paint still on the needle. Thanks.
This is going to dance me so much time and airbush cleaner. Thank you! I was pulling the needle for most color changes because it was never boring clear after just using airbush cleaner
Hey man, can’t tell you how much I’ve learned. I’m almost caught up on all ur videos. Really good stuff. That I needed to learn. Could I make a request? If so, it would really help to learn how to paint tail lights heAd lights and such. I’d love to see your technique and paints used. Thank you for all I’ve done so far and can’t wait to see more!
If there clear I just use Tamiya clear coloure, red, orange, yellow, smoke, green and blue on the inside part of light housing just paint silver or use a molotow chrome pen.
Wanted to Thank You, Your videos have been Really Helpful as I'm staring this hobby at 63. First Model I'm currently working on....Moebius Invisible Man
Hello sir. Your videos are really helpful. I’ve learned so much from you and your kit reviews are brilliant. Thank you. I know this is an oldish video, but it helped me a lot.
I have been using cold water to clean my airbrush after using Vallejo paint and seem to spend forever cleaning it. Thanks for the tip - will definitely try this next paint session.
Wouuu... Friends, I can meet your channel and I'm loving it and how to understand about different brands of paints. I am now in the world of 3D printing it is sensational for those who are on your channel. Congratulations! Of Brazil ;)
so after watching your videos and tips ive ordered an airbrush compressor set, and some tools for it. Excited to get more into this hobby. I have been enjoying model cars, but spending a small fortune on spray cans, so figured id take the plunge, get into more types of modeling, maybe sell on what i make. In it more for the enjoyment to be honest. Thank you for your videos. They really help. I was looking at thinners, flow improvers, loads of other stuff that adds up, then I save myself with window cleaner and hot water, happy out. I did buy some flow improver anyways to see. Now the wait is on for deliveries :)
Same here. Looking to start airbrushing soon and I am learning so much form your vids. Love your simple explanations and why things do or don't work. Keep it going.
I love your videos, just discovered your channel a few days ago. And have watch a few videos, some more than once. Please don't take this creepy, but I wish I lived next door to you. Lol. What a help that would be. Very informative speaker
Uh oh, is it time for me to move... Just kidding. I wish more of my friends were into this stuff. It's why I started the channel, to reach out to people like you. Thanks for watching
One last question. This video on cleaning after the acrylics is awesome. Could you please also do a video on how you clean between colors for Lacquer paints? Others have videos for end of day cleaning. I’m wondering how you handle the quick clean between colors. Thank you!!
Hi buddy what a great idea just using hot water thanks for the tip going to come in handy as I'm just leaning how to use a airbrush.thank you for sharing. cheers Gary from the UK 🇬🇧.
Great! I think it's good not to involve the cleaner between colors if you can help it as residual cleaner might affect your next paint and I also wonder if cleaner will eventually affect your airbrush seals. I always try to wipe the drying paint from the bowl and minimize what gets pushed through the nozzle.
Rex you have to get a ultrasonic cleaner, it makes life very very easy. It's heated with vibration and it cleans basically anything and I add purple power to the water and nothing can withstand that, thanks for the great video though.
Oh cool I didnt realize you could loosen the nozzle to backwash. I replaced my crown shaped GSI needle cap with one from an Iawata so I could do the ol' "cover the tip" method
Just got an Iwata HP-CS over the holidays and your channel has been a massive help in me understanding my way around it. So many tips that I would've struggled with otherwise. Your narration is straight forward and easy to listen too. (and I love your accent.) Do you have any quick-tips related to the Iwata or airbrushing in general to look out for as a new timer?
Most of my tips will more than likely work for your airbrush as mine is almost identical to yours. Just get used to minor disassemble of the brush as cleaning between colors is a must. I actually enjoy cleaning mine cause I have it down to a science. You don't have to remove the nozzle, just flush the paint through, then back wash it. After you back wash it, dump out that dirty liquid, don't blow it back through the brush. Put in clean thinner and flush that. Then pull the needle out, wipe it and put it back. That's it. Should only take you 3 to 5 minutes. Keep me posted how it's going and let me know if you have any more questions. Thank you so much for the great feedback.
@@barbatosrex9473 I'll keep you posted how it goes when I get back to airbrushing tomorrow. I tried your tips and the backflushing worked a treat. I'm going to have to get the hot water too and see how quick that speeds things up. I'm only painting 28mm figs right now (warhammer mainly) but I was looking into Gunpla. What's a good model to start with for someone new to that type of modelling in your opinion?
I JUST Tried it..... and YES, hot water does work with ' Vallejo Air ' paint .... Just put water in a cup, zap it for 30 - 40 sec., and there is your hot water. Pipette does help, can buy those on 'Amazon', and just like 'Barbatos Rex' says in his video, Check out his video! 'Barbatos Rex', YOU Have been a Great help in your reviews, tips, and recom for products......I THANK You a lot in helping me get back to my hobby, and helping out others!! And That is why I 'Subscribed'!!
Good Stuff. I'll try this the next time I run some Vallejo. A suggestion video from me is how to spray acrylic WHITE paint as it's the most clogging I've ever experienced air brushing.
Flow improver, 2-3 times more than usual. If you don’t use it with acrylics - give it a try. It was a game changer for me. White paint still builds on on the needle sometimes, especially on low pressure, so I keep my cleaning brush close.
So, that hot water must be filtered somehow? Boiled tapwater comming out of my kettle might have residues or sediments that can harm the airbrush right? I don't have a coffee brewer. What should I do? And after that you mentiones in a comment thet you used a bit of Windex. That menas i can use any windows cleaner solution? Thank you so much!
Congratulations about your fantastic and educational videos !!!! Can you please make a video about how to pre thin for easy use and store in plastic dropper bottles mr hobbys mr color/aqueous line colors ? Also what would be the ideal thinner for each color type ?
This is pretty handy, I'll have to keep this in mind. Now I just need a better tutorial on cleaning lacquer paint from an airbrush - after tangling with spaz stix black backer, I'm still left with a mystery clog that wouldn't clear.
Just, literally today, received my first airbrush. Will be trying over next weekend to use it for the first time. Which means cleaning it also. There seem to be several different gun cleaning cotton swabs on Amazon. A lot don’t seem to have very good reviews. Can you share a quick link for the ones you have used?
@@barbatosrex9473 thank you Sir! Much appreciated. Also, not to brag, but when I saw that decal positioner on the last video, I jumped into Amazon, saw it was from Squadron (RIP), so ordered right then and there... ended up ordering the last one from that seller! Thank you for that great (and timely) tip!
Great stuff as always.. Tried Alclads products but is there another way of cleaning Airbrush after as their cleaner is small bottle that runs out quickly.
I’m about to get a harder steenbeck infinity a step up from my masters airbrush. What needle size is best for scale modeling cars- military vehicles? Or what 2 sizes would you recommend if that’s a better rout?
A 3mm is great for all around if you choose one size but optimal would be to have 2 sizes like I do for my Harder & Steenbeck. I have a 2mm and a 4mm. The 2 for the details and the 4 for the larger areas such as car bodies and tanks.
Mr Rex, quick question, have u ever used the Vallejo Model Air - White color? Been having issues with this particular color. All other VMA colors have been fantastic and I've used them hand brushing without even thinning and fantastic results. I've recently tried aribrushing, same thing no issues with VMA except for white. I use the same ratio of color+thinner and the white clogged up my airbrush. All other colors didnt. When i hand brush the white, it's very chalky. any thoughts? or recommendation using other brands for white?
Both sprayed fine for me. Straight out of the bottle using a Badger Patriot 105. I will say you might have a bad bottle. I've gotten bad bottles of paint, recently too. Get a new bottle from a different source and compare. At least it's inexpensive
@@barbatosrex9473 Just on pure curiosity I tried mixing my cheap dollar store acrylic paint with Pledge Gloss floor care and it's not baaaaaaaad.... Not bad at all. I'm really surprised. better than the bottle of white VMA i have.
Quick note cleaning a AB with vallejo's thinner is not a good idea, it can clean some scraps of paint but since thinner is for drying a paint faster it'll do the same thing in hard to reach places like the nozzle. So if your gonna clean vallejo paint off use his hot water trick or vallejo's proprietary AB cleaner (also if you guys are sensitive like me to toxic cleaners like from mr color vallejo's cleaner smell more like lysol lemon spray so no need to worry of any fumes making u high)
The Vallejo thinner like all the acrylic thinners is basically dilluted pigment carrier (acrylic resin). So its imposible to actually clean the airbrush if the color is dried. If the color is wet it will just wash it away like water (cold) would do, but the only thing you achieve is to get rid of colored acrylic and replace it with transparent (the thinner).
@@barbatosrex9473 Loved the idea but I was asking myself the same question since the hot water might make the seals expand or damage them , it’s been 5 months and I’m seeing this today have you noticed any damage to the seals ? I really want to try this with my Steenbeck cause airbrush cleaner is pricy
Any acrylic. I use this technique on all my acrylics. If it's a solvent based acrylic like Tamiya you should use a combination of this and a solvent airbrush cleaner. The hot water technique works with Vallejo, AK Interactive, Ammo by Mig, Mission Model Paints, Humbrol and Model Master Acrylics. You can tell what type of acrylics you are using by looking at the label on the bottle, if you see a flame logo then it has a solvent in it, if you don't see a flame on the bottle you can use this technique. Hope this helps.
There is another way yo clean with hot water. After the two first steps to remove the hard dirt, you can fill the sink with warm water, then you put the airbrush into the water until the cup. Then you spray for half a minute and you got It completely clean.
That's a technique I used to use. Putting the airbrush in a coffee cup up to the cup and blast it so the water would keep cycling thru it. I should show that in an upcoming video. Thanks for the feedback and for watching
Certain types of nozzles like mine let's you just loosen it to cause the back flow, others you just cover it. Don't forget to dump out the water after the back flow, you don't want to fluch that dirty back flow water back thru the brush. Back flow, dump it then refill with clean water and flush again
@@barbatosrex9473 awesome thanks I'm about to order a new airbrush and compressor with a tank and wanna make sure I clean it properly really like the mr hobby PS-270
@@masonchapman361 use the link in my description for anything related to airbrush, those guys are awesome. I get all my airbrush and supplies from them
When you click the link, search Tooty, it's the air compressor I recently got from them and it's awesome. They've been out of stock for months but they just came in
@@barbatosrex9473 any chance you could take a temperature reading? I want to use your method but i am a bit worried about damagigng the seals trough termal expansion on infinity cr plus
This man's hand movement look like he's in a rush because his plane is leaving in like 10 minutes and he hasn't packed yet... Otherwise great video, thanks :D
Ya,Ya,Ya... That all works fine if one is using a water base paint. Now what about other kinds of paint??? Lacquer Thinner is best ... Yes it cost more then water but will do a better job.
I personally like lacquers way better than any other type of paint. I will be doing a test video with just lacquers soon. I do clean the airbrush with acetone and generic lacquer thinners for the home supply stores. I thin my lacquer paints only with Mr Leveling Thinner, it's the best in my opinion
