I got my first Scalextric for Christmas 1959 when I was 7 years old. Over the next few years I added more and more track and wore out quite a few cars. I gave my Scalextric to an old friend a few years to augment the huge layout he built in his garage. So my old track is still going strong nearly 63 years later and I get to play with it too. Goes to show that while we boys grow older, we never really grow up.
I got a Scalextric set for my birthday when I was seven in January 1967. The next year I was given another set. We merged the two into a big layout. My father built a five foot by ten foot table for the track to be fixed to, which could be folded up against the garage wall when not in use. Other bits and pieces were added, including buildings home made out of cardboard and painted. I had great fun racing with friends. It was eventually packed away for good when I was fifteen. The big table was repurposed and the cars and track were given away.
Just those painted illustrations on the Box Got your heart racing , same as the Airfix boxes did. Got my " Figure of 8" Scaletti Arrows set 1973 , It got used I can tell you ! Somehow though , one car was always faster than the other , it was the same in my " Le Mans " Set 15 years later ! Cheers for nostalgia , I can smell the motors Burning from here! Lee

The matchox cars tried this with the matchbox motorway etc..if memory serves me right ..you put a little metal plate on your matchbox car and away you went...
