This is why we don't take brand deals or company sponsorships on Rerez. Had I taken payment for this I would NOT have been able to tell you the truth about these systems. Whenever you see us cover a product that gets sent in to Rerez know that the company is doing it (usually) because they feel they've got something really good and worth showing off.
Lassi Kinnunen there are other reviews of this that actually bothered to research this product properly. Its from the same stock as the revo. And they bothered to run the cfw
Damn bro, I've never had half the problems you've had I have both systems and they work fine for me. Then again I bought mine from Aliexpress so...take what you will from that.
Its nice to see people that understand the importance of being a straight shooter and dont just say whatever to get paid those are very admirable qualities sir and I admire that 10 fold I see alot of people fogetting these things im glad I subbed never lose this mindset america needs more people that think like you do.
Really funny they sent you these in hopes of getting free promotion, and you (rightfully) crap all over them! Kudos to you. It's why I have much respect for your channel. It's also why I unsubscribed to Unbox Therapy as I've seen him cover tons of crappy sponsored stuff and not say a SINGLE bad thing.
Perhaps this is why I don't hire myself out as a product tester; they'd only pay me to say what they want to hear. Not to say that all companies that offer sponsorship would do this, I just wouldn't want to just be paid to lie.
You should make it obvious that you will give your honest opinion about it. That'd be my very first warning, that I will be brutally honest about it. If they pressure you to give it a glowing review, or just stop replying, then just move on.
Holy crap I just listened to this with a pair of headphones, and wow, the Neo-Geo intro is in stereo! Some of it comes through one ear, the rest comes through the other. That’s so cool! The butchered clone version is in mono however.
This Retromini RS-97 is actually one of the best handheld (of its tier). You can unlock its true power with cfw. BTW you don't need to unscrew the case to reset it.
This is sold as a complete system so it needs to work out of the box. If it's a project it needs to be sold as one. That's like saying your new car is great after rebuilding the engine
The thing that always throws me is that the 5 DOLLAR rasp pi zero can run just about anything 8/16-bit with little to no issues. If your machine can't match a 5 dollar, now years old, SOC then just don't bother.
I didn't read but a handful of the replies but at least one person pointed out that this thing does have custom firmware that can vastly improve the users experience. Think of it as that sleeper Honda that you buy for dirt cheap, add turbo and headers, and kick the crap out of your neighbors stock mustang. Not much out of the box but capable of much more with a little effort. Plus I've seen a base of fans that love this thing and will strongly disagree with the haters. I don't have one of these but that is the impression I get.
Level By Level Gaming Hi man! I agree! Reseaching a little bit, it's possible to improve this game console! You are an example, doing a great job in the PAPK3+ exploring all capabilities!
From what I've heard, this company has cleaned up their act. They now specialize in mod kits for the Game boy line of systems and they seem pretty high quality!
I think the consistent lag is due to frame dropping because there doesn't seem to be slowdown to go with the visual lag. It must be a problem with the frequency of the screen or something. The fact custom community firmware can make it run properly also supports this.
Let's add something more to this: The Retro Game has games in. This means they're selling games they have no license to. This is not just a bad console, this is a fucking crime, it's illegal.
i was playing doom on my retro mini it runs pretty good and i am always excited to play another game on my retro mini, but nes and snes games you cant read words which is a downside
While I don't doubt that the buttons suck on the game poke and that it sucks in general, but I think the issue with seeing properly was due to the battery being low. Most likely though I doubt you'll touch that thing again to change the battery to find out.
These have improved significantly since this review I bought the Retromini and it ran almost all gameboy advance games flawlessly except fire emblem for some reason the is a good bit of lag but still playable and there is still some button delay but it is barely noticeable. You should buy there newer model and test it out.
You can use a pin to reset the console, next to the earphone jack slot where it says "Reset". There is a nice community for this device, that ported over the OpenDingux custom OS. It has better Emulators and its still in development. But yes, out of the box it really sux
You can reset the system by putting a toothpick in the hole near the headphone jack. I believe that's the reset button. I used to think that removing the battery was the only way as well for the longest time.
And now FunnyPlaying got out of the market of clone systems and makes some actually pretty decent Game Boy replacement parts. Seems that they learned their lesson on this one.
I recieved this console (aka: RS-97) in the mail the other day, and yeah.... The stock firmware is vomit inducing. However, I knew beforehand about that, and the reason I bought this console is the huge amount of support the Dingoo community gives it every day. They took this little device as it's new pet project, and the software made by them propells this console miles ahead, making it a pretty decent handheld emulator. Shane, you should take a look at this scene, maybe it can change your vision of this console.
As i found out in my review the RS97 isn’t much fun out of the box, but it is great with cfw. The Retromini is for a lot of games -hm let’s say- ok. You just get what you pay for. A lot of titles run fairly good. You really should try opendingux.
Awesome video I have the same one it's still called a Cool baby RS97 $33 off amazon. Sure it's clone of a clone console but for $33 frame rate is gonna be everywhere. I had to remove the back to get to the internal SD to read on my laptop to add my games , had to convert marvel vs capcom with fbacache. I saw some videos of people flashing the firmware. You can run ps1 2D games
I mean I've seen competent handheld clone systems.... but yeah this isn't one of em. :P maybe a firmware update might save it if it fixes the emulation but.... yeah. doesn't seem like they care enough.
I'm getting my GPD XD+ in the mail tomorrow... and from a trusted dealer I think I got the far more superior deal as far as current emulation consoles are concerned. It's supposed to run Dreamcast, N64, SNES, etc, etc (it can run Gamecube and PS2 but unfortunately its slow... but hey, that's still progress considering) I've had my shared experiences with emulation devices before, some were good, some were bad, some were okay-ish I'd like to say to everyone here reading this that if you're interested in getting a handheld emulation device... DO. YOUR. RESEARCH! I had done at least a weeks worth of research on the new GPD console before I decided to bite the bullet and invest in one. And while all the reviews for it have been greatly positive (and through some very seemingly trusted channels) I still need to remain skeptical of the device. My last two purchases of similar devices did not end so well. Yes they ran as promised, but they had some cheap hardware malfunctions and unfortunately ended up in a closet somewhere collecting dust because of those terrible malfunctions (one of them is in a bag in pieces from my amateurish attempt to fix the problem) Just do your research... And remain skeptical even after purchasing a device. *edit:* its also very helpful to join a community that's centered on the device that you are interested in. You can learn so much about the device, find hacked versions of the firmware , some cool custom goodies for the android related stuff and learn the best settings to run certain games. You can also learn about the frequent problems and malfunctions and maybe even find fixes for said problems
Saw the Retro Game Pro while I was at my former place of employment and Retro Mini at my local Barnes & Noble. All I can say for the Retro Game Pro is I am sorry and to the Retro Mini is avoid like Nuclear Waste.
I have one of these that you can put a micro sd card into, allows you to add roms. what I like about this is that you can play game systems and make save states in titles for consoles that did not have that capability. for example i have a saved game that i can pick up where I left off from for toejam and earl on the megadrive. this just was not possible when I first played this game in the 90's. I think you must have had a broken unit, mine works as described.
2:46 There is another way to reset the system. You first find the word RESET on the bottom side. Then take a paperclip or pin, then push it at the hole.
I have the k101 pro. And i have never experienced most of the issues that Shane has stated. I have had it for almost 5 months, and The only time that I had issues with running games was with pokemon ruby and sapphire which would just not even start up. Any other game on the system (there is about 2000 ish games included built in and with the optional SD card) ran playable. But then again Shane probably has way more experience on the original consoles running as smooth as they "should". I've played through almost all of pokemon fire red with this console as well as playing through a ton of games from my childhood, and I have only had the system need to be reset once, which was easily fixed by just pretting the RESET BUTTON beside the headphone jack with a mechanical pencil lead, which reset the console very easily when I had the same problem of the system locking up, which again only happened ONCE in almost 5 months. I've tried almost all of the systems on this console, and all the games that I have tried except for pokemon ruby and sapphire ran very playable. I've tried different platformers and various other genres and all have played very well. And also considering that his console costs only $60 dollars USD, and shipped to me form China in about a week, I was and still am very happy with my purchase. I would 100% reccomend this to anyone who wants to relive their childhood. Unless you get some sort of crap copy like Shane got and I didn't.
Any emulation system handheld or not that cost over $100 has no chance now. The switch is only 200 and can do everything plus more so I wouldn't give any of these a second glance unless it costs $40 with games installed.
zeek heck you can buy a Psp if you want to play gba Roms so what's the point of buying the k101 if anybody says to play gba game cartridges just buy a gba sp or a modded backlit gba it's not hard and if you want to play gba Roms but with gba controls just buy a flash cart a lot better than the k101 (EDIT yes I do know you can mod the switch but that isn't that easy yet and also you gonna have to reinstall homebrew again and again till another mod comes out so looks like we're stuck with the Psp till then)
yeah, except for the part where that;s not true at all because you can't install your own emulators and run your own roms/isos on it. Again, two totally different markets
You got to wonder whats going through these companies minds. Anyone thats seen your videos should know if a product sucks you're not gonna lie about it.
the RETRO GAME RS-97 can actually be modded , Retro Core did a video upon that handheld, where he modded it. Or perhaps this RS-97 is not the same as the "CoolBaby RS-97". Anyway I am just putting my thoughts into it.
When I received these products I was giddy and elet! But when I turned them on I see I was beset! For once I saw the screen I was filled with regret! and an impulse to take my hand and impress RESET!
Weird. Maybe he just got a bad system? I've had one of these for the past few months and I use it all the time. It's never locked up or anything. If anything it ran a bit slow for more complicated games, but most games are fine.
rerez I love ur content ur content helps me with my depression I love ur comedy side keep up the good work I know for a fact ill never own aconsole I grew up playing I wish I still owned this console but I know for a fact nobody will ever get me one and send it to me
Thanks for this video, I was wondering how these things did and was thinking of getting one. Do you know of any small system like this that runs all the old games perfect?. Anyone?
I have both of these and I like them. I haven’t had any of the problems you have. They definitely never crashed. I don’t understand the mini game poke though.
Plot twist: the typos are deliberate so you can't argue that they legitimately claimed they said it had actual HD video once you find out that 720p makes the system crash.
I so love the fact this company thought it would get some good free publicity by sending him free stuff but instead got called out for being a trash system lol
Did you really imply that a system not capable of running Snes games might be able to run Genesis games? I mean it is very clear that this thing does not have blast processing.
Emulation of such old systems don't have anything to do with how powerful they were at the time. It's all about how many resources emulator needs to do it's work. Old MAME vs modern MAME versions are best example. They're both running same games but modern MAME does it more accurately, therefore it needs much better hardware to run.
@@paullee5196 Not a copy, it's literally the same device with Soulja Boys brand name plastered on the listing online. Nothing is changed, like we'll see in Rerez' Soulja Boy videos. He literally buys these scam consoles on Amazon and resells them for ridiculous prices.
Shane, you missed the reset button! It's near the headphone port, and can be pressed with a paperclip. (Or you have tried it and it didn't work so you may have omitted it)
