Scam moving companies hold customers' belongings hostage 

Always hide a GPS in the stuff.

You can't trust anyone anymore. Where are the cops? Clearly crime pays. Sad.

Move yourself. I hire friends and pay cash plus beer/pizza for the help to pack and load a truck. I usually rent a U Haul truck with a rear lift gate.

This happened to me and my wife. Different company though.

This is happening to me right now. I am in the process of filing a police report and getting a lawyer. I am still waiting for my stuff to be delivered from NJ to TX.

I would never hire a moving company. This is why I'll have a truck, and rent a trailer or a rent a big box truck.

Amazing that they are willfully flagrantly & publickly admitting to holding items hostage, and NO police action is taken immediately?

Best way is to Rent a Truck and move yourself, if you have to you can at least hire movers to Load and then unload your own Rental Truck.

This happened to my 87 year old mother. She was in a hurry and paid a mover in Indiana to move her stuff to Kentucky. When she arrived in Kentucky, one of her lamps was missing. A special place is waiting for thieves who stole from my 87 year old mom.

I want to talk with these company owners. I don’t think they understand how much money can be made with amazing service.

What idiots! Do things right and you don't need to scam anyone in this business. There is so much money to make with being honest upfront in this industry. I've been running my moving business for 8 years and just can't even fathom doing this to someone and living at peace with myself.

Please do yourself a favor and RENT A UHAUL TRUCK OR A PENSKY TRUCK. GET some family members and friends to help you move or find a gig app for some helpers.

The absolute best way to hire a mover is through personal recommendation from somebody who you actually know who actually used the mover and was actually happy with that mover's performance. Don't go by what a mover has to say about themselves on their website scammers will give themselves great reviews. If the Mover is not licensed or insured don't use them.

Why pay people to move your belongings when you can do it yourself duh

This happened to my sister. 11 thousand to move...then when truck was loaded..they said 21 thousand.

JAAAAANKY.....when we were in the military I caught the movers eating our food in the kitchen, packing fragile kitchen things then in same box went out to garden shed and packed yard maintenance items on top......WHAT?!

I had just returned from Iraq and my wife left me as I was set to change duty stations and the Holiday Moving company move my belongings and 3 weeks later I only received less than half of what was taken and they would not insure my missing items which included Bose speaker and a 55" Samsung. How do you lose a 55" tv? And say we can compensate you for the loss?!

So basically assisted burglary?

Outrageous that local district attorneys aren't arresting these thieves. The city will hunt you down over parking tickets but let these scammers run the streets and do nothing.

Avoid Paulys moving company in Mechanicsville, VA. They hire delinquents and they charge you more than double the quote

Do NOT hire Perennial Van Lines....they are not ethical and do not vet their subs. Delivery is unreasonably late.

Sad. Also stay away from Safe Ship Moving Company in Florida. I signed a contract on it I had 72 hours Had to cancel. Every time I tried to cancel after I saw nightmare stories about them, they would send me to the salesman. They would yell and talk and argue for hours. One guy was an hour and the other one was 47 minutes. They talked me down. I’m shocked even now that I let them get away with that. They would not give it to me so I thought well I have no choice because I need that money to move and if I don’t get it back then I’m stuck. They also asked me for the routing number to the bank because they said that’s how they need to take the deposit. I was so desperate because my mover fell through all that I had to find a new one and I just didn’t think. Don’t ever do that! That was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done because once they get your money that’s it. You will never see it again. you will have to live with them or forfeit they will do everything and anything from transfer you to person-to-person and try to get you whittled down so you don’t have any days left. Then the next day I called and I said I know I am calling after that 72 hours but I’ve tried and tried to cancel. and she said we will listen to the conversations and if you’re telling me they didn’t let you then OK we might give a refund. Well she came back and said well, we don’t see a problem they just convinced you to stay our customer and that’s what we wanted. I told her I’m so upset because nobody would actually listen and cancel the contract, they just wore me down almost like a psych op. I’m not a well person either I have poor health. I told her even today I know it’s only one day I still do not want to be a customer because I don’t think that you’re gonna be able to meet my mother‘s niece. She’s 86 and I can’t imagine going through what other people said happened. Sometimes the truck just doesn’t show up. Other times when they do they charge extra saying that Safe Ship underestimated the move. Some people said they had to pay $1800 more to move and again at delivery. Nightmare!

There’s a specialized service that caters to people who want to move , but don’t want to spend a lot of money . It’s called U-Haul , after your done you’ll know why moving is so expensive . And now with McDonalds paying $15. Per hour , moving men are looking for $25.-&30. So it’s going to get real expensive in the near future , get used to it or start weight lifting

I currently work for a moving company,I have worked for a few corporate companies in the past but left due to these types of things . A lot of things can change from the original estimate,steps ,large pcs ,hard to access areas ,basements & how long the job actually takes . These corporate companies have the customer sign a legal contract agreeing to pay in full . When it’s time to unload ,most corporate companies will have the customer pay half of the total bill before unload which is one reason I left ,they reel you in with a decent price then raise it throughout the job . Unfortunately if you sign that contract there’s not a lot you can do besides pay ,READ CAREFULLY,DO NOT HAVE YOUR THINGS WRAPPED AS ALOT OF COMPANIES TAKE A ENTIRE DAY TO SHRINKWRAP EVERYTHING & REMEMBER THE DRIVER IS JUST A DRIVER ,TALK TO THE OWNER OR MANAGER

This is why you use a GPS tracker hidden in a few of the boxes. Your stuff is in a nearbye storage unit. Once you ahve your stuff back act like your going to pay and simply subdue the drive and hand cuff him to the trucks drive shave and ghost ride the truck down the street

Our movers were cheap although they broke and stole a lot of our personal things.. my renters ins came forward a,d helped but those things were so personal they can not be replaced.. A painting was one thing we will miss. Report was made by the law but no belongings returned broken beautiful things cant be replaced.. watch carefully who you hire to move your life from your home.. learned my lesson.

There is a Binding Agreement and a Non Binding Agreement. Movers weigh it. You need to do your homework.

We lost thousands of dollars and our household goods through Moving Express from Passaic NJ, loaded our stuff, took personal check and venmo after we paid a broker, then wanted 5k more for a 4.5 hour move . Our stuff is gone

Starving students movers did this to me. Stole a third of everything I owned, and refused to unload the remaining items until I paid for the items that were never moved.

do not use National MOVING they are not supposed to Even go get my stuff until next Thursday but they took the WHOLE amount of 2283.11 TODAY then they said they "subleased " me 2 another company i never heard of n cant locate on line

This one is easy. Spartan obviously quoted this victim wrong and when they picked up her stuff. Realized it was a far bigger job then they thought. But to me thats their fault. They should always stand by the quote they give.

it is not scam it is basic rules applied to all moving companies by US DOT agreement, that nobody reads before sign...

I am getting Quotes from moving companies now and had one try and tell me if I move from MA to NH there is a Tariff fee?? Little do they know I am a Commercial Credit Analyst and know of the business Tariff fees for suppliers in China Selling /Shipped to USA. The Former President enacted. but not state to state in USA. unless someone out there can prove its true?? GOOGLED and found no reply. Went on Mass.gov nothing...unbelievable. Boosted quote by 300.00 alone just for this one fee. moving 2 rooms of furniture and quoted over 2K plus the Tariff fee. Guess there trying to make up for gas hike.
