Wonder how much the machine costs and how many uses of it you can get in its lifetime, along with how much the technician gets for the few minutes of its use.I am sure that it is a tiny fraction of $80,000.
It’s because of the very expensive TAXES THAT THEY WANT YOU TO PAY FOR NO REASON like most countries ask you to pay only your electricity and water bills but America asks you to pay taxes “for security” that they won’t give it to you
since the founding of the USA it has been more or less always ruled by the same families and they have been sucking the population dry ever since. the genius thing about it is that they have convinced the normal population that the way they run the country is good for them, because Americans still claim that they live in the best country in the world LOL
It's crazy. I've seen it a lot unfortunately. If he did something as small as start a new medication or change the type of medication he was getting before he left, they could void the insurance (even if the new medication was better for him). Any medical issues or medical changes that happen 3 or even 6 months before you leave, they can use against you. It's disgusting.
As much as I crap on Canada, universal health-care is something I'll never complain about. The American system is evil! Same with these insurance companies, may they be sued into oblivion.
When I had a medical emergency in the US. The treatment took 10 seconds and the cost was $573.78. So why ain't I surprised by this Great American Medical Bill.
Our health care system is a joke. I got a deep cut between my toes and knew I need stitches. I cleaned the wound myself and then drove to the hospital. Even though I was in no immediate danger or great pain, I was told I had to go to the emergency room for treatment. I got almost 4 hours and $4K later… 😣
@@boq780_2.0 I couldn’t agree more as I care for my 89yr old father and I cared full time for my bed ridden mother until she died, I can’t afford private healthcare, I can’t afford private dental let alone any other health costs! All the very best, thank you for your reply, 👍👍👍👊.
80 thousand for a defibrillator is criminal along with the rest of their bill...how does it get to this... shame on the insurance company it's discusting
@@Ptr834 Back in the 80s, a bill was passed to allow hospitals to become for profit entities. Prior to the passing of that bill, all hospitals were nonprofit.
@@debbieday6885 i was born in 61 in the UK and the whole family immigrated to Australia...ive always been thankfull they did...we have public hospitals that does not cost anything to ensure everyone can get medical attention... they do have private hospital's if you have insurance...we are lucky to have a good health care system...we all pay a small tax but no one has to pay for ambulances any more there are doctors that bulk bill the government for seems them along with public hospitals and it works well for everyone...i think it's sad that a hospital and insurance company's can destroy someone financially
That is an obscene amount of money to charge!!! My late Mother, God rest her soul, had a widow-maker heart attack 30-years ago (she passed away in 2022). Death-defying vascular-rebuilding surgery and nearly a month in a drug induced coma to heal , only ran up $150,000 in Texas. An entire month of 24-hour care. To Richard, take Ali's advice. Lawyer-up and relax. Both insurance companies are acting like fools.
The point isn’t the absurd cost (a point I’ll address in a moment) but that _delivery cost_ of catastrophic medical care _is_ very expensive when to consider all the technology, medical personnel, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure and training to deliver that care. That is why universal healthcare is necessary; it’s insane that the US doesn’t have it. For a Canadian, that cost is amortized over two generations of income-earning Canadians such that no Canadian is denied the best healthcare in the world without financial ruin. The mandate of for-profit healthcare in the US is to deliver _dividends_ to shareholders not healthcare to patients. So consider this a cautionary tale when you hear Doug Ford or other premiers talking about how ‘private’ healthcare would lower costs in Canada-it won’t. The USA is proof.
@@lordblanck7923 not necessarily, insurance covers a majority of those costs and this includes government funded insurances like medi-cal for californians
The funny thing is in the United States if you ask how much everything is going to cost, they can't tell you. You don't find out the definitive cost still you finally slapped with a bill
I especially notice this at convince stores like 7/11. They don’t even bother putting price tags on any of the items, and you only figure out the price intel after they scanned the item. Even the staff themselves don’t know the price of the items, as when I ask them how much it cost they literally have to scan it just to know. To clarify I’m not trying to blame the staff for any of this as this is of course not there fault, but it’s alway put me in such an awkward position where I think I could pay for this think only for me to realize it over my budget, and also awkward for me when the staff has to scan your item just so you could know how much it costs like you are about to pay for it. I don’t know why these companies can’t hold back there greed for 1 second and not do slimy things like this, all it dose is push customers away and generally make them less money as when these types of situations I mentioned occur I literally just leave after that and don’t even bother to buy something else.
@StephaneTheard For real that pisses me off. I shouldn't have to guess the price of a candy bar or some shit, especially if it's coming from a gas station of all places. Keeping prices hidden,OR showing a fake price, should count as false advertising, scummy as shit I tell ya what.
@@StephaneTheard In Canada, I avoid going to dollarama because they don't label their isles. A 2 minute trip in the store easily becomes 10 minutes because I need to look through the entire store and then likely miss the 1 thing I want to buy. No price tags? Fuck that.
@@derekmulready1523Bernie probably payed a hundred bucks for that because most people don’t understand how American hospitals work. They set absurdly high prices, but only charge you part of it, and then if you have insurance, they cover it and leave you paying a couple hundred bucks or maybe a thousand if it’s really expensive, and the hospital writes the rest off as a loss and their taxes.
This happened to my Mom when she was visiting my brothers in Cali from Toronto. Hospital wanted $24,000 for 2 days. She had bronchitis but was misdiagnosed. Insurance denied her claim due to misrepresentation since my Dad accidentally answered one of the questions in the questionnaire incorrectly. I officially contested the decision in writing along with a letter from our family doctor. It was rejected. I found out I could mount an appeal directly to the underwriter. I did that and they actually approved our request. Our family doctor's letter was the deciding factor which left us all relieved and thankful. This whole process took over a year. Lesson here is always have your family doctor look over or fill out you travel insurance questionnaire for you.
Im sorry 80K FOR A DAMN DEFIBRILLATOR??? Last i recall from engineering, making a high voltage power source and running it for a few seconds would be like 100 dollars max. Are they making one time use defibrilators or something? Or are they just trying to get people to buy them new ones at this point holy shit
It's a free for all unregulated business. Employees in most companies are trained to use defibrillators. Hospitals, corporations and shareholders are out of control.
Hospitals in the us charge heavily inflated prices to combat insurance companies paying below what hospitals paid and they don’t lower the price down if your don’t have insurance

80k for a defib???!!!! We have them placed everywhere here (UK). The only charge you get is from the defibrillator. Everything else is free..... America! Wake up!!! You NEED a social health care system ♥️♥️♥️♥️
We have them here everywhere in the US, too, hanging on walls. You guys don't offer free healthcare to foreigners, btw, and neither does Canada. We also have free healthcare for people his age, and he may even qualify for it since he was a temporary legal immigrant.

I refuse to pay medical bills. My credit is shit, but these Dr's and insurance companies are truly screwing us. I'm not paying for that 37th Mercedes, Doc. Bite me!!!
All the insurance has to do was pay ONE FUCKING DOLLAR of that bill, because the way American insurance works, the rest of that bill nobody would have to pay and it would be marked as a loss in the hospitals taxes.
Yep, my dad was thinking of going to China due to a arm cancer that basically halted his work, he eventually just went to a us one after having insurance. Both of hospitals being able to be for-profit and insurance companies forcing them to increase there money makes payment shit
Same happened to a friends father in my country while visiting U.S. They write off bills all the time, he ignored it and they didn’t chase, rather that then sell the family home.
620K seems high, even by American standards. When my grandmother had her heart attack, the full bill was 120K luckily she didn’t have to pay out-of-pocket or any of it except for like $1000. The rest was all covered by Medicare.
The medical industry in the 🇺🇸 is criminal! My brother had to be in the hospital in Norway for a few days and have a mild procedure on his eye and it was only $3K/Cash💯🤯If it were back here, he would have been out at LEAST 10x that/$30k!!
If he was able to return to Canada despite not having paid the hospital bill, he's golden. US healthcare costs are unlike anywhere else in the world. There is nothing reasonable about them. I doubt that any court is going to extradite anyone for an unpaid hospital bill.
Poor man. All he wanted to do was literally enjoy the rest of his life with his family, but good ol’ Uncle Sam said nope and required more than half a mil because they saved his life. And Canadian, if not typical insurance, weaseling their way out of paying it? Despicable on both sides. Hopefully the man can enjoy the rest of his years without the worry.
Hospitals have funds available to cover the uninsured. He shouldn’t worry about that bill. The uninsured treat the ER like a doctor’s office and go in for menial reasons like colds because they know they’re not going to pay the bill. So don’t worry about that insane balance and live out the rest of your years in peace.

Sign everything in your name over to a family member and file bankruptcy or just dont pay. Just make sure nothing is in your name so they cant take anything. 😂😂😂
There was Thor from pirate software explaining how these bills work, but it has something to do with the insurance companies and the hospitals avoiding paying taxes, by claiming they are not making profit since the full price is never paid.
Actually pretty close. Most hospital rooms in the US have very nice beds and flatscreen TVs and treat you like you’re staying in a 5 star hotel. There are certainly ones that are shit holes but they are few and far between and the beauty of capitalist healthcare is if you don’t like the service you can go somewhere else whereas in Canada or any free healthcare system you are stuck with the doctor and hospital you are assigned to and have to wait years to be treated and all their hospitals are shit holes.
