I purchased a givenchy bag in 2017 from vestiaire collective. I sent the bag for authentication and it was confirmed it was a fake bag. I reached out to vestiaire collective and was ignored. I am glad I paid using PayPal. I was able to open a dispute and received a full refund. I will never buy prelove again 🙁

I agree! I will never-ever buy from those sites! Since I can't afford a brand new Chanel CF I will go and buy new Dior, Versace, YSL, LV etc., etc. Getting a fake while shopping second hand always was my biggest nightmare....That's why I only buy new.

Dacob… please do a video about what some of these influencers DO with their excessive purchases… Return? Resell? Trade? This topic came to mind when you commented on buying a $5k bag 2x/week. Even if it’s 1x/month we are talking a minimum of $60k + thousands in tax…. That’s not including all the little SLGs and shoes and jewels etc.. even money aside… it’s a lot of space to house all these items.

it’s so sad things like this keep happening on second hand sites… I buy nearly 85 percent of my designer pre-owned or vintage not only because it’s cheaper but because it’s better for the environment so when things like this keep happening it only makes people less likely to buy preowned 😪

Great points Tyler. I agree with you. I think the websites that deal with second hand sales and external sales people really need to invest in proper authentication and correct customer service and care because otherwise thing like this will keep happening.

I am so afraid of scammers!!! This is the reason I shop at a boutiques only(at least for the last three years). I used to love hunting on pre-loved market for great deals or unique pieces, but it’s not worth the trouble anymore. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Tried to purchase a Dior saddle bag from VC. I am Canadian. They wanted to charge me 1000 dollars in duty (VAT) plus shipping. I checked my government website and noticed that VC was charging twice as much for duty taxes then my own country. I complained, especially because I was buying this item from another Canadian (side note: Canada, US, Mexico are trading partners). I find as a Canadian purchasing from VC is difficult. Sellers are misinformed on pricing and VC is sketchy, double dipping when they can. I ended up purchasing off site, but I made sure to call my bank to have a paper trail just in case. It worked out, but I was so anxious until it arrived.

I purchased a $2600usd bag from the US. I was charged over $700 Canadian. I don’t purchase from out of the country anymore unless it’s someone who can help me avoid paying duties etc.

This happened to me. Bought a Fendi Runaway bag from VC. Screw came loose on handle. Took the bag into Fendi to get it repaired. Come to find out, the handbag was a fake. Reached out to VC with a email directly from Fendi Corporate stating the handbag was not manufactured from them. Sent the bag back to VC and got a refund in 1 week. Will never buy anything from VC ever again.

oh gosh! I have never been scammed on VC (yet) but i do notice ALOT of fake LV and Chanel on their website which should be audited better. I'm always hunting for vintage Chanel and love re-visiting older styles so I put myself through unnecessary anxiety to find those items 😂

I agree with you with the people pretending to be Japanese seller on eBay. Once I ordered Issey Miyake bag from a seller that showed as “US seller” on eBay. The bag was shipped from Russia and it was fake 🥲

It’s 50/50 with VC. They have corrected situations I’ve had with them, but they are not great at QC. The thing that really sucks, is that I also sell on VC and their reputation has, severely, made my sales drop. By the way, all of my items are authentic, but yes, VC blows for buyers and sellers alike.

I never trusted VC for this very reason. I didn’t feel like they were accountable and reputable so I never purchased anything from them. The website is unorganized and I can tell certain bags are fake from the picture.

I think the point here is not wether to buy or not from boutiques only, but that VC should have a reputable authentication team to be able to sell authentic luxury items. I have been buying from boutique only all my life, but now that I also appreciate vintage pieces, I also look for places like VC.

I buy a lot on VC, only once I received a product that didnt match the description (it was real) and VC handeled it really well! Just do your research yourself, and if it doesn’t match the description they will solve your problem!

My experience with VC so far has been great. As a seller also I have been asked for receipts, clearer pictures of codes and authentication card when applied (when it comes to a few of my Chanel items) so I wish to believe that they do their checks properly. Having heard this video I am in panic mode re a Kelly 28 I purchased from VC even though there is an original receipt and it matches with code in bag. To embarrassed and scared to go to Hermes and ask to authenticate. Prefer to believe I haven’t been duped.😳

In 2018 I bought a chanel bag from vc, it came with a receipt, dustbag AND authenticity card. I sent in the bag for authentication bc the bag "felt" a bit weird. It turned out it was a fake DESPITE vc apparently checking it for authenticity. Will never ever shop there again

I don’t understand the viewer’s comment. If VC msgs u that the receipt isn’t there and can u cancel isn’t that considered good?! I have bought from VC, and a few times the order was canceled due to “quality issues” once they even msged me that a bag had a scratch that wasn’t declared and took a picture and showed me. To me that just means they are doing their job right 🤷🏻‍♀️ having said that, I didn’t buy Chanel, Hermes level money, prefer in the store.

I agree that it is just too risky buying second hand now. There are so many super fakes around that it is getting harder and harder to tell the difference between genuine and fake. It is also a lot of money to risk - it is not worth saving a few hundred or thousand dollars in my view. I only buy new now for that reason.

I feel horrible as a seller as well. I own really nice pieces of luxury and want to sell them but all these steps are super stressing. You never know if you get your money for the sold item, you never know if their super "professional" Experts decide that your 100% real item is fake or not (sometimes one day they decide it is fake and another day that it is real). You never know if they post your item back for free or you need to pay a tax on top for your returned item. It is just shit for everybody.

We can never forget that these so called authenticators from these pre-owned sites work for the company, not the consumers! Remember to always pay with a cc or PayPal so you have purchase protection on your side.

You are *spot on* about having a credit card! Not having a credit history was a pain when I bought land and built a house (U.S.). Get a card and use it rarely and wisely because it's going to matter some day.

Agreed. Also you should buy purchases online with your credit card so you’re protected in case you get scammed or your item is lost in the mail.

Agree with you Mel, Australians need @ least 1 credit card that is well managed to show you are a responsible borrower, along with a hefty deposit for a house purchase. I use the “OPM” method (other people’s money - cr card company), then pay in full every month. This gives you the protection & freedom to purchase online as & when desired.

Though there are no guarantees, I buy vintage items at physical shops only, ones with a very high word of mouth rating. No online bullshit. I do live in NYC and recognize that I have geographical privilege in this area BUT even in many smaller US towns and cities there’s a trusted vintage shop. In person is the way to go.

Hello Dacob! Im not sure of tax regulations in the UK but in the US if you have a YT channel any product you use to talk in your videos or present yourself in the videos ( make up, clothing, camera equipment, even your crop) could be used to deduct tax so then the price is lower as you wouldnt pay full amount. Maybe that is what Maria is doing and why she can do so many unboxings. If you are not doing that, please look into that with a tax advisor. Im not in the US but I follow many finance channels and many US youtubers talk about it. It can save you loads of money!

I use a small limit credit card using OPM (other people’s money), then pay off in full every month. You have the convenience & protection when purchasing & also assists your credit score. Australia is pretty similar in checking yr credit for mortgage applications etc. Best wishes from Adelaide; South Australia🇦🇺💐

HELP! I recently sold my YSL toy loulou with VC and it got cancelled because it was 'non-compliant'. I sent it with the original authenticity card though. Now, they are keeping my bag in their possession!!! OMG they are stealing from me! I contacted them gazillion times via chat and email and they are not responding. I want to make my payment of 12USD in order to get my bag back but CHASE requires their address. They are not giving me their address for me to complete my payment and have my bag sent. I'm completely shocked now and I don't know what to do. Please help!!! Should I make a police report?

This is so weird to me, I've shopped from VC many times, mostly because I like vintage and I'd rather buy pre-loved for the environment. I've always had a very positive experience with VC. I tried once buying a LV Keepall, and since it did not match description the seller had informed VC asked if I wanted to cancel and I did with no problems. I however am very picky with what I buy, I usually choose to shop from boutiques that are affiliated and if I buy from private sellers, they need to have at least an authenticity card, since usually the scammers are private sellers. All my purchases have been authenticated and declared real, so apparently I have been very very lucky...

I sold an item and shipped it but it’s been two weeks and still don’t know where the package is. They told me that they’ll contact me in 3 days but it’s already passed 3 days and still no respond to my emails. Also, the item I sold was taken out from my account and I can no longer open it. Wow! I jus heard you saying that someone bought kelly and it was without the receipt. On the seller perspective I just sold my kelly 25, sent whole set to VC including receipt and they came back to me saying that the receipt is missing. I’ve tried to contact them, I’ve sent all photos taken before shipping and still no response whatsoever:( they also said the colour of the bag was wrong. Wtf their experts can’t even check the colour of the bag with the sticker/ serial code which is on the bag and it’s clear that the bag is not black. I’m super annoyed and just hoping will get my bag back and they will not al least damage it:(

Agree with you Dacob. If you can afford it, buy directly from the shop. I myself try not to buy freaking expensive bags frm TRR, Vestiaire, EBay or other second hand shops. But never say never though lol. I bought few things like clothing and shoes frm Vestiaire. So far they’re great pphheewww…

There is a place for second hand luxury, but you have to be very careful. The super fakes these days are really good, plus there are a lot of scammers out there who won't send you anything.

When buying on VC is also good to use PayPal so PayPal can also help in the worst case! I’ve also had some good and also bad experience, as a seller only good ones but as buyer sometimes also bad especially when I’ve bought a Lv Pochette cosmetique in good condition, and the condition was soooo bad, after that I’ve never bought in „good condition“ only very good! Or brand new. I’m confused why she did censor the bag picture on VC 😱

You can actually buy a home/property either in cash or you can have your prior landlord/prior property situation write a letter for you if you want a mortgage in the US. It’s actually quite easy 👍🏻🇺🇸

If you buy a home in cash the IRS will come knocking to audit you. Any transaction over 10k will trigger a red flag to the IRS. And no one likes to be audited. Second, most rental places that are new have credit checks. So if you prefer to live in older areas fine, newer areas not as much. FICO was established for that reason. And jobs are also running your credit scores now.

@@undomiel152003 When you’re finances in order, the irs isn’t a problem. They should know what’s up when you’ve amassed enough wealth to buy a residential property of $300k or $700k and have that number such a small ratio when compared to your net worth. You just pay your annual taxes like everybody else plus all the insurance stuff.

@@undomiel152003 I actually think anyone can save their way to paying cash for a home. Sure, it’s ideal if you’re making 180k after taxes, live off of 60k, save for 2-3 years and basically transfer those assets that you had in “cash” to assets that you know own outright in land and any building/dwellings on the property. At that rate, you probably have a minimum of 250k in retirement Roth IRAs, insurance policies, and other assets you manage like a paid off car and any personal items of value. And at least a couple 10,000 more in cash on top of the house money. The every day American millionaire owns their residential property and it makes up as much as 40% of their net worth.

@@rememberme626 Not everyone can. At the current rates and the current average salary and cost of living no. Sorry, I may earn over 6k digits on an annual salary but the great majority do not. This is a very American thought pattern, that everyone can. Nope, some people cannot. They may be able to save for 20-30 years, and that will be more than likely all they can save apart from some retirement funds. But don't assume everyone can. That's a blind comment. And by the way, that one which saves for 20-30 years will be audited because their net worth will not be that much higher than the value of a house and whatever they could save for retirement. Of course, this is relative, I live in one of the Metropolitan states, which is where most people desire to live. If you work in one and then buy a house in the middle of Kentucky then it will be cheaper of course. And afforable, but if you work in a metropolitan city and you aren't earning more than six digits you will not be able to buy a house cash on hand.

I disagree. Purchasing second hand can be super fun, and you can find great things you missed out on. The whole point of VC is to have a level of protection. I have great personal experience buying AND selling on VC.

Well... if you wish to analyze this video from a reductive point of view then you might come to your conclusion but if you read between the lines, you will notice that the message is very different. But hey, free world for most people so feel free to come to your own conclusions.
