That engine sounds relaxed! No rush, mate. Who cares what it looks like? There is a relaxed confidence that it can handle whatever is asked of it. Keep up a good maintenance schedule on the engine and drive train - it could become a classic sleeper!
Rolls Royce had several engine series, the planetary series, comet, meteor river series, ie Trent, Derwent & Nene, then there was the birds of prey series, eagle, peregrine, kestrel, vulture. There is the C & D series too
Sounds great, I used to get to drive the one we had in our lad unit in the TA here in NI but ours had a petrol engine , the gears were sumthin else and needed a bit of herring used to lol.
@@rayjennings3637 I don’t know if it had been converted or not Ray but I don’t believe so, was like that when I joined the unit in 1975 and was still like that for the next 7 or 8 years till it was pensioned off and we got a Bedford light recovery wagon, I was told the Scammel went to some museum on the mainland.
Restoring it will make it look like all the other new looking oldies, and all those years of character building will get lost. It''s just a matter of taste I suppose,, but I love some of those old battered work horses far more than those spotless show trucks that everyone seems to go for these days. Getting a truck mechanically sound is great in my eye's but why is everyone trying to make their old trucks look like they never had a a life? See one and you've seen em all. Maybe I'm just strange.
Ours was 01 BD 75 and I have photos of her bump starting a tank. Boss said it would not do it, it did. Now the interesting bit, the photos were taken for the USAF. for film evaluation.
Bet they do not grease the prop every 25 miles like it says in the hand book! I also bet they have never changed to oil in the rear diff nor checked the antifreeze / water circulation.
OMG you have no crane? I had to sell mine when my business collapsed :(( They are totally bad ass I used the winch on mine for allsorts and the crane for engine changes and other stuff! I had a 1954 model with Garden 6LW Gardner
SLONA MU. The eagle diesel is an engine made by Rolls Royce, it wasn't as reliable as a Gardner but had a lot more balls and if you got a good one they were great.
