Our symbol, the Scania Griffin, has been a landmark in Södertälje for nearly three decades. It was placed on the roof of Scania’s head office building in 1996 to help visitors find their way. After a well-needed refurbishment, it is now back on the roof.
The legacy of the Griffin symbol embedded in the Scania logo traces back to 1901. Fast forward to 1996, and this iconic symbol, weighing a hefty 1,000 kilograms, was placed atop our eight-story head office building in Södertälje, Sweden, to guide visitors. Recently, it needed a bit of a freshen-up. Now, it resumes its place, rotating day and night. With a wingspan of four meters, this symbol turns three to four times per minute.
