"Scarborough Fair" is a traditional English folk song from the Middle Ages, referring to an old fair in Scarborough, Yorkshire. It is a market fair, comprising of traders, merchants and other vendors that started sometime in the 14th century until the 18th century. The author of the song is unknown, and many different versions exist. The traditional version has many more lyrics. The lyrics are about a man trying to attain his true love. In Medieval times, the herbs mentioned in the song represented virtues that were important to the lyrics. Parsley was comfort, sage was strength, rosemary was love, and thyme was courage. The music is characterized by extensive harmonies and rising melodic lines.
This piano cover is based on the piano arrangement of the version by the 1960s singer-songwriting duo Simon & Garfunkel, as composed by the Italian pianist and composer Mercuzio.
