Our daughter has prolonged QT syndrome. Was diagnosed in 1986. She had been treated for epilepsy because of fainting spells from age 7. She had her major attack at age 12 while playing volleyball. She had been taken off her epilepsy medicine just a month before as had no episodes. She had three cardiac episodes that night, one on the floor of the gym, one in the helicopter ride to trauma center and one landing at the trauma center. By a miracle the Dr. reading her EKG's at trauma center has just read an article about prolonged QT and recognized it. She was in a coma for 10 days. It has been a life changing experience for us as a family, being tested and recovering from that trauma. We, recently, about 5 years ago went through genetic testing in Madison, Wisconsin because of grandchildren by our other children. Our daughter is now 47 years old, married and a healthy person. I believe if your child has episodes of fainting, please check this out. Be persistent with your Dr. There even is an organization that is dedicated to this syndrome.
