Miami Vice did, actually. It took some years before Scarface became the cultural juggernaut that it is today, as it wasn't a huge hit when it was first released. Miami Vice was what really set many of the styles we associate with the '80s into motion.
@@Streetw1s3r Yes there would. The main reason that it was created was because an executive at NBC wrote a brainstorming memo that simply said "MTV cops" and later pitched the idea to the producer of Hill Street Blues, who then took inspiration from US asset forfeiture statutes that allow law enforcement agencies to confiscate the property of drug dealers. So in actuality there wouldn't be a Miami Vice without MTV, which was still pretty new at the time. Scarface didn't really become popular until rap culture in the '90s began to incorporate its themes, which effectively introduced it to an entirely new and young audience. At the time of its release and throughout most of the '80s, Scarface was moderately successful at best, just like other classic '80s films that are heavily revered today, such as Blade Runner or The Thing. It took time for it to actually become part of the zeitgeist of the '80s, but it only did so once the decade was over.
@@janehoffmann3210 Lmao you're very welcome. At the end of the day it's pretty useless information (which I seem to be a sponge for), but the fact that _someone_ enjoyed it and may have learned something they hadn't known before makes that knowledge all the more worthwhile to me. So thank you. The funny thing to me is that I wasn't even alive in the '80s, yet my love for '80s pop culture and music (which was set in motion by the Grand Theft Auto games) led me to learn as much about the decade as possible.

Godamn Oliver Stone. "Scarface," "Platoon," and "Wall Street," all done the same weekend in the 80's. Stone owned the 80's, him and John Hughes. ..... "I thought we'd go to the Babylon Club....Again?" .....The greatest achievement of "Scarface" is all the actors looking tough wearing pink pastel suits.
I remember THAT MOVIE. It TRULY WAS A CLASSIC. It happened .(for real). I find that the CRONUS TIMELINE WAS EXTREMELY IN LINE OF OUR WORLD EVENTS. AMAZING. Welcome to AMERICA.
It took me a listen to get this, but you're right! The drum machine is still in perfect tempo, but the guitar is just slightly off, and her singing just misses a few beats on purpose as well. It's subtle, but absolute genius!!!!
ELVIRA: Where are we going tonight? FRANK: I thought we'd go to the Babylon Club. ELVIRA: Again? You know Frank, if someone wanted to kill you, you wouldn't be hard to find. FRANK: Who would want to kill me? I have nothing but friends! HA-HA...
idk what this specific genre is but this is what i call cocaine music i mean the song is about cocaine and everyone at the time was on cocaine so it kinda fits
Should make a sequel where Elvira was actually pregnant with his son when she left him and his son grew up and started the new Cuban crime wave in Tony's footsteps. the son could have gotten into the coke business through a Greselda Blanco type character, got with her, overtook and overthrew her and become as big if not bigger than Tony......just a thought, lol.
This song reminds me of some NPC appearing behind you and 0.2 seconds later pulling you out of your vehicle for no reason before you have time to react
