I'm also deaf and I totally feel the same! It's been really nice to have reliable CC from his show especially given the RU-vid platform hasn't been great at encouraging and promoting captioning really ever.
I wasn't aware of that. Other shows should have that too, agree. 👍🏿Would be nice and they benefited from it. „Consumer is King" businesses ppl say here in Germany. 👑💰
@@TheJodanyo Exactly! You could tell Colbert asked questions that Maddow either hadn’t been asked or hadn’t considered previously, and in a way that got her to get her REAL feels - which is amazing because she’s SO private.

Interesting to talk about risk, and caring about loved ones. I’m in Australia and the messaging here was never “do the right thing, save your self” it was always “do the right thing, protect your community”
that was the messaging in America too but Americans are too indoctrinated into their "freedom" myth to be collectivist. ppl who didn't want to wear masks told other ppl they had the freedom to stay home if they were that afraid of catching the virus. there's no saving them.
@@insoserious A few weeks ago, our Health Officer in BC, Canada turned that on its head when she said people who can't or won't wear a mask should stay home and order their supplies online. That was refreshing to hear after a few people in grocery stores have told me to stay home just because I wanted to stay 6 feet away from them (and, of course, they were maskless). As it is, my only trip out of my home is my ~ once-a-week grocery shopping, done early in the morning and as quickly as possible.
I should try kiwi land where we don't just say it, we mean it. Want proof, read up on Baby or little girl Eva, a bubba born with AIDS who was ostracized and made fun of due to her disease, do not her fault. No childcare centre would have her. Her parents took her to NZ where the whole country adopted her, and she lived her entire short life thinking she was an angel.RiP. Angel Eve
Hell, we all need to take a breath and a shot after having been gaslit for 4 years, and I am the first person to say that I am OVERJOYED to see the orange menace OUT! but Biden's appointments, while qualified, are way too close to Wall Street and the military industrial complex. Global climate catastrophe looms and we have to pressure him to do better than what he plans! It's not enough!
@@eyedownload It would certainly help if so many Americans weren't brainwashed into believing that climate change isn't real, that cutthroat capitalism is normal and right, and that the American military is "making the world safe for democracy." Unfortunately, the oligarch Rupert Murdoch and other such scumbags have gobbled up many media outlets and they all spout the toxic lies that make people vote against their own interests.
I’m so ready to not have to hear about the president day in and day out multiple times each day. With Obama I maybe heard about something once a week. I can’t ESCAPE hearing about Trump and believe me I’ve tried 😒
Pat Maurer; Well said. Being an outsider who has been following your politics for decades I am looking forward for all of your citizens to have competent intelligent and educated people in the new Administration and not to hear on a daily basis the train wreck that is the Trumplini Crime Leader, his ghastly family and his GOP Trumpublicans. Historians will not be kind and nor should they be.
@@Lybrel rachel madddow claimed peace with korea is a russian plot, 70% of south korea wanted peace they have forced military service for boys at 18 maybe rachel should send her son to korea to serve before she says that dum crap
I know what you mean, she was like, "What's wrong with me? I care more about my S/O than myself!" and I thought, "That's love, that's all, just real love, silly." If only more of us had this 'problem'!
I’m so glad you asked about Susan, I was wondering how she was doing , but have not seen anything about it. I’ve had the same experience with my partner , so I know how scary it is.
I am always amazed by a sudden show up of a person that instantly radiates intelligence, competence, spirit and empathy. Rachel Maddow is such a person. Thank you for exising, Rachel.
Jon Batiste is so damn talented. I got his album a year or so ago, and was just blown away at this stylings and his range. I am so glad that people are able to hear his talent and enjoy it!
She is awesome. Smart, well researched and asks her interviews if they agree with what she said in the setup, thus giving them a chance to correct anything. Something I wish others did. Her stuff is proven.
@@stunnedmulletblah9714 Whatev. You know NOTHING about me except I appreciate her brand of smarts. What’s apparent about you from your comment, however, is you must be pretty miserable.
What a perfect example of how to conduct an interview... Stephen asks a question (generally short) then just sits back and listens to Rachel answer it - without interruption. A joy to listen to.
@@msmith53 Maybe you should read about their remarks about the studies after they became so popular. One thing they said was that using the Dunning/Krueger reference is exactly what they were talking about in the study, it is the effect in action. Rachel Maddows show is entertainment, not real news, just like Hannity or Carlson on the other end of the spectrum. Just take any of her reports and fact check them.
be sure to track: Jimmy Dore ru-vid.comvideos, Chris Hedges ru-vid.com?search_query=chris+hedges and Glenn Greenwald ru-vid.com?search_query=Glenn+Greenwald+ .... for far deeper truths that mainstream media Rachel M EVER delivers ....
@@brucedevereaux8282 I fill so so sorry for you that makes me cry and I'm not even a Democrat. Please get yourself some help. It's not to late to save your brain cell!!
@@caterpialar And I fill sorry for your English teacher lol Forgot Beau of the Fifth Columm! A bit of Cuomo. I usually start and then let RU-vid take for for a ride. But also, Rachel is a very good investigative reporter. Only way you’d think she wasn’t is if you didn’t like her findings. Oh, and I also watch Fox when there’s a big news item to get the various views.
I appreciate Steven saying Rachel is a champion talker, but it's better to say she's a master orator. The Georgian senatorial candidate Jon Ossoff is another master orator, not making one verbal slip-up, even though he did all the talking when the other candidate didn't attend. Feed your brain and your mouth will follow.
That interview was close to an R rating in knowledge talk, it's great to see Rachel on Stephen's show being more her than I usually get to see on her show. Rachel and her crew are masters of tying strands of information together to the more complete story in the news. Thanks to both for their work and hope Rachel's partner will come trough without any lasting impact on her health.
America is going to have to forge a new "normal" because COVID and this out going president has changed it forever. My greatest hope is that we return to a kinder and more respectful country than what we see now.
As an outsider it’s been the craziest ride. Thank god it’s nearly over. But not for the Republicans. They are stuck with him. Once someone over there implements massive social change across health, pharmaceutical, education, Black Lives Matter and your dodgy social safety net system you might be able to turn the old Covid ship around and make some headway back to the good old days. But as an insider your people are dying your once great nation is dying. I hope Biden looks at the education system and improves the curriculum and facilities at poor schools. I hope he makes those churches pay tax. It’s a start
Haha more like look forward to the white house becoming an aged care facility lol.. secret service will be changing adult diapers for the next 4 years.. here's a gd idea why don't you move in all the other ex presidents that are still alive aswell biden still be the oldest lol. They can play bingo together, drink prune juice and it would just save a lot of tax payers money overall lol
Monsieur Baptiste! Bon travail, et bon chance! You are the underappreciated beating heart of the show. Viva la N'Orleans and all the great people and artists who are made there. My applause, sir!!!
I love both these people. Stephen Colbert and Rachel Maddow have helped me endure four years of misery. It's never been more important to speak truth to power.
What a treat: Two of my favourite online presenters... together. Very different styles, but the values and intelligence that ping between them is so refreshing to see. And, OMG is it needed after four years of the Trumpian Travesty...
@DancesInCombatBoots ! i wanted to but never got around to doing it but i was gonna put together the video of him on the golf course where it looked like he shat his pants and combine it with the air force one clips of his hair blowing off and dropping the umbrella i dont know how to do it

The fact that Rachel didn't get it also goes a long way to prove that taking precautions like masks, and hand washing work. She had it in her house, and was the primary caregiver of a patient, and still didn't get it. Simple precautions work, so wear a mask!
I just watched an anchor on NBC say her and her whole family got it and she did everything right. She took all precautions and still got it. So no one's safe. Hide your wife. Hide ya kids. We're all gettin r**** all up in here.
It's sad that inspite of the deaths from the virus there are still people out there who are denying the existence of the pandemic and would refuse wearing a mask. Thank you frontline workers for all that you do. 🙏
My 2 favorites together discussing what’s happening in the world is so uplifting because they’re both intelligent and compassionate about others who’re suffering.
Remember after this outgoing administration. We can't let our guard down. From this administration forward we must hold ALL of our elected officials accountable. If not we run the risk of someone worse later on. Like I said before...Although wounded...HOPE is alive Merry Christmas 🎄☃️🎅
I doubt very much that Trump will be indicted for anything he did WHILE IN OFFICE. That's because every president breaks some laws by authorizing such things as CIA so called "black ops". Charging Trump for crimes he committed while in office would result in all future presidents being charged by AGs of the other party. But, in Trump's case, there's plenty of crimes for which he can be indicted that he committed before he took office.
No , he had work to do , as President- those are the acts of a president , war is not murder , if in his spare time he missile struck a political enemy - that's a tort , he is culpable for any or all criminal acts ,
As a health and safety professional, Rachel’s comments on risk ring so true, and are applicable to all safety/risk decisions in life - no matter where or when. It is absolutely the hardest thing to get to the root of what motivates and influences each person (it varies), to make real change in behavior. I will never be out of a job, for this reason.
What motivates "Empaths"? The fact that we aren't isolated creatures. Like herd animals, we have to see ourselves as ONE CREATURE; because we can't live without one another, any of us.
That painting behind Ms Maddow is hypnotic. The more I look, the less I can look away. And I'm so glad to hear her partner is getting better from Covid.
You have excellent taste. Fortunately it's a big world, and there are many brainy, bold, witty women out there who are straight and still single. I hope you'll find the one for you.
@@jeremysmith9694 they’re avoiding touching their mask unnecessarily to lower the risk of accidental transmission. You should sanitize your hands before touching your mask and after removing it to lower the risk of accidentally transferring any viruses on the outside of the mask to your hands or vice versa and accidentally touching your face and infecting yourself. While out it’s easier to put a mask on and leave it. Then if suddenly in a situation where you need the mask it’s already on. Get a brain
@@Nevertoleave The overwhelming majority of people don't do what you just said. How most people use masks is dumb anyway because they're constantly touching the outside of their mask all day. But if you're outside exercising basically alone the benefits of fresh air far outweighs the risks not wearing a mask. I went to a Christmas party on Saturday with 16 good friends. Indoors. No masks. My mental and emotional health needed that human interaction and contact much more than I needed to protect myself from a virus with less than a .05% mortality rate. It's called risk and reward. Balance is the keyword. I can either die living alone in my basement not working, eating or living or I can take a risk by living my life and using caution. I'll take the risk.
why is this the first we're hearing of John's contributions to 'Soul'? The movie has been out!

Rachel is the best and is my best source for news. She never lies. Just the facts. Her presentation is awesome. She has a way of connecting the dots like no one else.
Thank you Rachel Maddow. I lost my husband to suicide. He was as important to me as your partner is to you, facing COVID. I don't necessarily know what that means but he was and is my soulmate. But damn, it feels real to me. Somehow it feels relevant because every second of my life has been affected by never waking up to the love of my life ever again. I am super glad you have the platform to honor your partner's fight that ended to their survival. I am so happy that was your outcome. My husband's life will never end up in such a fairytale ending. He is dead. I hope that isn't too real
Exactly. Wear a mask when you're not at home. And _keep it on to cough._ Don't pull it down or up so you can cough freely. I see idiots saying that you're not supposed to cough directly into your mask, and that you're supposed to lift it up and cough into your sleeve or your elbow. No, folks. Cough directly into the mask. That's why it's there. Thank-you, Rachel.
Thank you for sharing her story with this virus. You are highly respected by many and maybe more will take this seriously. I too have long tail symptoms 9 months after having Covid and no one should have this.
9:20 Sort-of-fun fact: Donald bragged in a _Time_ magazine interview that whenever he's at the dinner table, he gets two scoops of ice cream while everyone else only gets one scoop. An acquaintance (writer) tried to make Donald's nickname "Two Scoops" from that point forward, thinking that it would bury into people's minds the idea that Donald is a ridiculously petty and small man even in the stupidest of situations. Thing is, Donald would most likely accept the nickname with a ton of pride and his worshipers would shower him with praise for it. The most effective name you can call Donald is his first, given name: Donald. He _HATES_ being called Donald, because it implies you are his equal or his better. The idea that anyone would never call him "Mr. Trump" as he so desires would wind him up to no end. And that's why I've called him Donald ever since his niece Mary recommended it. And here's the thing: Everyone in this country is Donald's equal. As much as conservatives hate it, there is no aristocracy or higher caste in this country as a matter of law. Democratic republics like the USA are messy and inefficient, but monarchic and feudalist systems are way more brutal, and they don't care at all about your rights.
Thanks for the info about Donald hating being called that. Since he hates being recorded as impeached, for ever, in the official records with an asterisk, I'm going to call him Donald* in writing. Not that he will ever know.
What it says about you, Rachel, is that you love her wholely and completely and you are willing to do whatever it takes to protect her. And that's amazing and awesome. I hope she continues to heal quickly.
"I care ... more about my partner and her safety than I do about myself. I don't know what that says about me psychologically..." It says that you love that person. Love is simply a barometer of your willingness to sacrifice your well-being to ensure the well-being of another.
I love Jon's music. Downloading his Xmas album now. So glad Susan is better. And I too, find education and competence in the people running our country dem sexy.
