Scarlatti Style: Binary form (AABB). A and B sections often begin with a solo voice that is soon followed by the other voice. Very long sequences. Very short repeating sections like a "broken record" or "DJ rewind" sound. Voices jumping registers with leaps and skips constrated with voices that mostly move in stepwise motion, or arpeggio motion. Long arpeggios spanning several octaves with notes played twice on the accented the beats. Angular and zigzag melodic contour contrasting with repeating notes ascending or descending scales. More homophonic in texture. Left hand is mostly accompaniment. Lots of parallel motion. Less contrary motion except at cadences. Irregular phrasing. Abrupt changes in texture. Abrupt modulations. Modulations to parallel keys or parallel modes, especially Phrygian. Modal interchange. (Example 3:55 E major to E Phrygian Dominant) Choppy with clear sections and lots of pauses. Rhythm is more important than melody. Rhythmic interest is mostly in the right hand. Rhythmic contrast between sections. Mix of predictable and unpredictable.
Such a LOVELY VISUALIZATION ! for this juicy, spicy, jaunty piece. Love the scholarly but incisive comments from OlegSutyrin, & ajames. Thanks for all You do to bring us JOY ! ! !
@@smalin I simply don't know why doesn't your channel have a least a million subscribers... I am amateur violist, but your videos have helped me understanding were does the voices go, like if music was visible, and it's amazing for me studying music theory from another perspective!
@Sebastian-uf3vr The low number of subscribers is due to the way RU-vid decides how to recommend videos. Before they changed their algorithm/policies/procedures, my videos averaged 1000 views per day (per video), and the number of subscribers grew quickly. But since the changes, the average daily views per video has dropped to fewer than 10, and the number of subscribers now grows very slowly. www.musanim.com/SmalinRU-vidStatistics/ shows the picture.
