The real question is why does Scarlett Johansson sound like a computer?

They shouldn't have tweeted 'Her' suggesting a Samantha connection. They shouldn't have taken down the Sky voice, people are big dumb and see that as weakness or as admission of guilt then think 'Aha'. --__-- That hurts the actual voice actor who is now out of her revenue stream.

They don't sound alike. Johansson has a distinctive rasp to Samantha's voice in her that is nonexistent in Openai's Sky voice. The tone is similar, but not the same. Maybe instead of a hissy fit, Scarlett could be flattered. If the Sky voice was indeed that of a voice actor, and not artificially generated, then what is the argument here? Does that voice actor's career end because Johansson thinks they sound alike? That's BS. Now Chat GPT freezes the best voice on the platform and paying subscribers lose out.

I would dismiss her claim where it not for the fact OpenAI actually approached her and she denied their offer. Honestly though, why Scarlett? Her physical attractiveness is apparent, but I can easily name several actresses with more attractive/unique voices than her.

The snippet you used isnt even the part that shoulds like her. It was the part where the AI was actually acting out stories and doing impersonations.

I thought it sounded similar to the “Her” voice, but definitely not identical. I feel bad for Scarlett, that her family and friends don’t know her voice. I could tell the difference, so why couldn’t they?

I just feel bad for the poor lady who actually did the sky voice. She’s probably just some modest voice actor of average means trying to do her job. It’s not her fault she happens to sound similar to a celebrity

If this lawsuit goes forward, this sets an extremely bad precedent. The implication will be that anybody that sounds like an already famous celebrity will not be able to do voiceover work? That's ridiculous whether they initially wanted Scarlett Johansen or not. What about actors and actresses? If filmmakers want to cast Bryce Dallas Howard because of her look, but they get Jessica Chastain after Bryce turns down the role, does Bryce get to sue? I have literally mixed those two up in a movie before and thought one was the other. Open AI never advertised or made you think it was Scarlett Johansen. In fact I never even KNEW people thought there was a connection until the Sky voice changed and I did an Internet search to figure out WTF happened. Where is the misrepresentation or theft if they didn't sample her voice? I'm sorry but just because you don't like something doesn't mean you have grounds for damages and that you are owed anything. This kind of frivolous litigation really highlights what's wrong with the legal system in the US.

Is it just a coincidence I guess, that Sky reads much like an amalgamation of the words Scarlett and AI... Scarlett+AI... Sc+AI... Sky.

The thing is that an actor can't sue a director for taking another actor that is similar to them to a movie. It's a bit similar thing. Voice is a part of one's likeness that a casting producer might be after for a role.

This seems petty. I get the whole don't steal my likeness argument, but if they have an actual person and can prove that is indeed her voice, there is no argument here.

It's likely that her voice was initially hard coded and then later added other extra voices to make it sound different but seems the tone's the same as her. If there's multiple voices, it should sound like the Star Trek Borg's cacophony of voices talking at the same time.

Is AI not able to make a random voice in the same way it does a random face image of a person? Just tell the AI to pick a few random voices. Edit: Better yet, use a human that is willing to be paid to use their voice for sky.
