Julia, having that mini slab roller is going to be so helpful for you. Great job with the brilliant hack to turn the mini slab roller into a larger one, that rollers out even more clay. It's going to be so much easier for you. Congratulations! So happy for you! 😃💕

Congratulations with your new slabroller. Hope you will make loads and loads more ceramics with this, with much much pleasure. The piece of long board is a good add and very well though Julia. Easier to use and convenient. Succes Julia 😊 Bye Sheila

Thankyou so much for your kind words Sheila, you are so lovely ☺️ I am trying to make as much as I can but juggling health and trying to do things with my Son doesn't leave a lot for clay 😊 xx

Thanks for the video. I treated myself to one of these last year and LOVE IT! They were out of stock for ages but left my email address to be notified when in stock! I find it easier to run it through with one piece of the wood then through again with them both. I also use some longer pieces of timber as I need longer slabs but got some longer canvas too saves it sticking to the ply!

Good to know you had the same idea as with the longer boards 😁

This has been really useful because I was planning to buy one of these. What I've seen by watching this is that the roller moves around, I would have thought it would have rubber stoppers on the bottom to prevent it moving.

Hi Wendy they are rubber stoppers but on my shiny table it does move, it probably would be better with suction cups. But as a compact collapsible slab roller it does it's job. And the hack means you can roll much bigger slabs. If I had any kind of nit pick it would be that the rollers are not adjustable but think you only get that on the big ones 😅

I have the same roller and I love it. I dont find the boards and mat move about tho. I put a piece of non slip mat under the roller to stop it moving on my worktop. I add a piece of MDF board between the other boards if I want a thinner clay. Adding a longer piece of wood is a great idea . thanks!!

I am going to get some non slip mat for mine too, once I get the draws to put it on it should sit better. Glad you love yours too 😊

Julia--You need to secure the frame to the table. Four large suction cups or C-clamps will go a long way to holding it in place. You're fighting to keep it localized while rolling the clay. It's really a simple fix. LMK

Hi Pamela, it was only like that because I had it in a different position for the camera, doesn't move as much when I do it normally. I will look in to some clamps though thankyou.

I’ve got a slab roller too, it really helps because I have arthritis in my wrist and fingers. I’m fairly new to pottery and I’m disappointed with my kiln firings I’ve been using the preset schedules on my Ikon kiln and I’m not getting the glossy finish with my glazes I would have liked . I think I need to hold the final temp for ten or fifteen minutes what do you think ? I love watching all your glaze combos I’ve watch your vlog from the beginning Sandra

Hi Sandra, thankyou for watching and supporting me 🙏 I do my own schedule as I didn't like the preset ones that came with my Nabertherm. For your glazing there could be a few different issues, what glazes are you using? What brushes are you using? What is your kiln schedule? Usually people early on in pottery have issues with glazing, I am currently just sorting out a glazing tutorial which might be of use to you, it is very surprising how much glaze you have to apply for a good glossy finish. Fan brushes are the best kind of brush. I do a 30 minute hold on a medium speed to 1190°c but the hold isn't going to do anything if you are not glazing generously or if your kiln is not firing correctly. Do you use any witness cones to see what the heatwork was like? 😊

Oh thanks Julia for getting back to me I do use fan brushes, I’m using mostly amaco glazes, perhaps I’m not quite putting enough glaze on my pots. I bought whitness cones but haven’t used them as yet. I will get there I’m sure ❤

@sandraashby9804 you will Sandra it just takes time and practice. My glaze tutorial should go up this week. I do have an older one on there but this new one is specifically for beginners. 😊 xx

Can’t you clamp the thing down to your table?
@ceramicsbyjulia8552

Probably but I don't mind it moving when I use the long board, I would normally move it over first but I was restricted for tilming space 😊
