Just a question, when the aircraft landed it seemed like as if it was going to run off into the grass eventually but slowed and stopped before that happened, does this aircraft have some sort of braking system ?
Yes it has brakes. Even when the engine is at idle it is generating thrust so it's very important for these jets to have bakes for that reason alone but they do land at a fairly high speed despite having working flaps...so need brakes to stop as well. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
I was wondering the same, it doesn't seem as fast as the title suggests. This plane does 200mph and seems much faster judging by the footage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oF8lUPNnwng.html
RC-Fan NL the pylon racer in the video is half the size of the BVM bandit. This jet legit does over 200mph. But it’s a bigger aircraft which is why it looks slower. I have a 175mph (clocked) Electric pylon racer that looks like it’s going much faster than this. But that’s because it’s only 1/3rd the size.
Could be, maybe it's also the way it was filmed, or maybe they didn't go full throttle on this video. When I look at another video of the Super Bandit, it looks quite a bit faster: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_m3rWbZ3Jys.html
Are the owners/operator retired fighter pilots? I just recently started flying a beginner plane, after being a RC fanatic most of my life, buggies, crawlers, boats, and even one lil drone lol, but my beginner plane is a whole diff animal, and I couldnt imagine flying something that fast. I guess maybe with practice but I think theres gotta be a lil real world knowledge in flying these amazing scale fighters.
Very rare for these guys to be full size pilots. Generally they started flying RC many years ago and have just maintained their passion and enthusiasm for the hobby, developed their skill to a level where they can fly jets like this. This was Steve's first flight with this jet in 12 months so wasn't flying flat out. Quite a tame flight by his standards but still quick. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
scary is right...no way I want to stand by the runway while this plane comes by. It reminds me of the time a guy with one of those big, loud helicopters that move sideways extremely fast flew at our field. I took cover behind the work areas. I've seen too many crashes to trust planes that dangerous. The mechanical failures and yes, even the pilot errors are much higher in rc flying than in full size, pilot inside airplane, aviation.
Later that afternoon the local news headlines, " Toy airplane kills 3 at local model field". Some people can't think about the "what ifs" in life, fortunately Darwin's Law keeps some from spawning a new hatch.
Totally wrong Michael. There is a significant focus on safety at these events. The pilots are not allowed to fly any closer than the far edge of the runway to ensure that there is minimal risk of danger to them should something go wrong. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
With the right mixture some of the old F1 pylon racers could hit 230 mph. Not in a race of course. This could be going that fast but it sure doesn't seem like it.
