The cat probably just got scared by an insect and freaked out, which made the other cats want to gang up on it, then one of them hit the chair in the middle of the freak out. I've seen cats have similar freak outs over the littlest thing. It's absolutely not impossible for the cat to leap like that even with a leg missing.
