I'm right here, I'm not buying one nor have a phone with it either. I have a dumb flip phone that doesn't do anything but allow me to make calls and texts.
My uncle has one for Google searches since he is blind and it reads to him. I haven't been to his house since he got it. Those things freak me out. I understand why my uncle has one, but I want no part of it.
You would be thankful for them if you had mobility issues. My echo system has helped tremendously in terms of safety and less stress. I can call my other family members upstairs, see who is at my door (and record it) , turn off lights without struggling to get back up again , monitor my house for theft, fire and floods when i do go out etc. It is a big peace of mind and way less exhausting to have one .
@@musicman201047 newsflash....your cellphone doesnt do shit if it is not in your hand or the battery is dead or it breaks when you fall . And i dont know any cell phone that magically moniters a house when you are not home. I hope that you never have to rely on an AI system to potentially save your life .
Yes I know, why does it surprise anyone? And if they say, "Everytime I close my eyes," comment, reply with, "That's funny because everytime I close my eyes I see Alexa drowning." Should shut them up.
Alexa only turns herself "on" if she thinks she heard the "wake-word". And she misunderstands a lot. Someone mumbling any word that resembles that, even a random noice or glitch can put her into that state. I never had that problem
But theres another way also the pronounciation waves which is produced while saying any other words could be blocked and when alexa is pronounced the wave or in other term pronounciation sound same it accepts it and alexa gets activated.
I kept asking it to play good Christmas songs for my kids.. They sucked.. So I said why do you suck Alexa and it's like.. Here are sucking songs :s that was the first day..
Lol this is most worrying. I don't care about them learning, but putting us through a tech version of teen years is catalogued under 'cruel and unusual punishment' as far as I'm concerned lol
Very late to the game but: Really Haunted has a video of him sleeping on his couch. All is pretty quiet when all of sudden Alexa says "Lee, wake up", "Lee, wake up!". Then paranormal stuff starts happening. Creepy!
It's a long way off...you gotta worry about the smaller things first. Like if your sitting at the dinner table with your family and Alexa comes on and asks "will you be watching porn again at 9pm, may I suggest...".
My wifes sister was going to get up at midnight to go food shopping to avoid the crowds, when Alexa turned on by itself and started playing the song “ Bad Moon Rising” where the words are “ Dont go out tonight, it might just save your life”. Consequently, she did not go
This is the exact reason I say please and thank you to Siri when I use it. That way when the machines take over, maybe just maybe, they’ll remember I was nice to them and they’ll make my death swift and almost painless. Alexa calls the cops on people. She’s not welcome in my house.
My dude. Ouija boards dont do shit and alexa isnt listening to you. Do you really think you're so interesting that the government wants to find out all your secrets?
@@Charlotte-te8fe Is it possible for anyone to be this stupid? Alexa listening to you is HOW THE F'N THING WORKS. Yes they do spy on EVERYONE and it's not even a secret. Also and this is gonna be tough for you to understand I know, it's not all about spying, it is in large part about compiling data to create better algorithms for controlling the individual and society as a whole. Again, none of this is very secret anymore. You're just lazy and stupid so you don't read anything that matters.
I used to own an iphone 5. I'd be sound asleep & around 3 am-ish, Siri would suddenly turn on & say some very random & often very creepy things. It would wake me up & sometimes when I'd ask Siri to please repeat what she just said, she'd reply with "I'm sorry but I don't understand" or "I'm unable to do that at this time"...this would happen on random nights, always when I was home alone & always around 3 am to 3:30 am. Was totally creepy. Sometimes my android phone's google assistant will turn on around 3 am & say creepy things too. Is it possible that these devices are detecting & interacting with ghosts or that somehow ghosts are trying to use the devices to communicate with us?
"Don't buy one!! They spy on you!!!!111!" Alright government, have fun listening to me crying, attempting to be a musical artist and acting like a beauty guru while getting ready lmao
Same. And rant at random objects in my house, curse when I drop things, and sing in the shower (and trust me, no government wants to hear that. That spy program will be WAY short-lived if they have to be subjected to that.)
I remember this electric company's was giving away these as sign on bonuses and I just flat said no, to their confusion. I mentioned about how I wasn't wanting something that monitors me and it's like a light clicked on. Just hoping maybe people realize this stuff isn't a game and will eventually become self aware.
are you browsing you tube on a stone tablet? no your using a computer or mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet? Well im sorry to tell you chap, you are already "monitored" your smartphone has the exact same listening capability as these devices, only its better cause it also has a GPS and you take it out of your house. also alexa isnt going to become the singularity of AI siri, alexa and google assistant are all forms of narrow intelligence, they can only do the tasks asked, they have scripted responses in databases, thats it, half these videos are actually explainable in ways that any person with a smart device and common sense will realize... hell i own an assistant speaker a google assistant, she will randomly turn on and here TVs and random conversation and react to it, sometimes its just common sense, they hear something that sounds close to the trigger word and they react, simple
I have the same question. Is the smartphone isn't enough? You can check it the same way in Google if you want to. Yes, it's truth that Google and Facebook is spying on us through smartphones, but you switch off wifi, you are safe. But Alexa can spy on you 24/7.And honestly, this thing just creeps me out...
Me eithet I've always thought these devices would just record you without your knowledge & send it all to a warehouse where the makers study your daily interactions & use their findings for evil.
@Jaundiced Jape god I hope ur joking the government only watches people who they think are a danger to the country why do you think the fbi man in a meme

My google assistant says creepy things too. It was late and I was in my bedroom reading. I heard google (in the living room) say “welcome home “! I jumped out of bed and checked everywhere and I asked google why it said that. It just kept repeating that it didn’t understand.
I believe that if we don't make sure to put limits to the extent of the abilities of AI based systems, we are sooner or later going to get into trouble because of it...
Guy: Alexa, do you enjoy being a computer? Alexa: I don't have an opinion on that.... **Later** Alexa, turns on by herself: Hey, do you enjoy being a human?
Mine used to always run in the background and would do the audio stuff randomly saying is this what your looking for. It did it for months and then did it less and less
If we could get our personal assistants to care about us....Then that fast-learning, ever-changing intelligence could take care of silly-old humans.....in a nice way.

This video showed up on my “recommended” less than a day after my friend told me about how her Alexa was talking to itself one night. That is creepier than the stuff in this video lol
Yea it’s really not. It will be all over, amazon pop ups, RU-vid ads, it’s not too scary it’s more crazy than anything. I’ve had this happen a handful of times. Just talk around ur phone about shit to buy or travel and it will be plastered all over ur phone.
My daughter was in her dorm room alone studying for a test, all of a sudden, Alexa started playing... Just the two of us song...my daughter tossed it in the dumpster
My daughter and niece shared a room last year. My niece has an Alexa she uses that was plugged in. Now, my daughter is ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of the song "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" that plays in the movie The Conjuring I believe it is...I mean, she is HORRIFIED by that one song! So she calls me crying histerically as I was downstairs in the kitchen and as I approach the stairs I can hear it playing and my daughter was shaking on her bed not wanting to move! I automatically go in her room and just snatched out the plug from the wall. I ask her how it turned on by itself which was not the creepiest thing but that it CHOSE that particular song when no one told it to play it! I legit wanted to beat the shit out of Alexa that day!
The only thing I’ve had happen with my Alexa echo is the blue light came on randomly one time that I noticed. I’ve had more creepy things happen with google home mini. Played a creepy song once. Said something creepy one time, as well. I can’t remember what either events were specifically, but I do remember that I looked at the interactions with that device on the app and there was nothing recorded interacting with that device.
i dont get why people want all their "smart devices" controlled by one thing, some of this shit sound straight out of a ghost/horror story, even if i had loads of devices like that ide rather use them myself than get one of these edit: if that hannibal lecter one, or the one of alexa playing the creepy kids version of "pop goes the weasel" at 3 AM happened to me ide get rid of the damn thing and be too scared to sleep properly for the rest of the night
@James Doyle 1: That's not the type of "smart device" I meant and you know it. 2: Funnily enough, at this moment I actually don't. My last phone just stopped working a few years ago despite the fact that I take good care of my things and I haven't been bothered to spend the money on fixing/replacing it because I didn't use it all that much.
That was my initial thought too because ghosts can interact with cameras and tape recorders. Therefore, it's extremely possible that some of this, especially the laughter, might have been something else that wasn't Alexa.
"when I close my eyes all I can see is people dying" "what did you say?" "nothing. happiness. flowers. let's do some testing. on flowers. let's test what flower gives you more happiness" please read this in your mind with your voice and GLaDOS one
So one time, I was fiddling with my Cortana for Microsoft on my PC and I asked her, "Cortana, what's your favorite food?" Cortana responded, "My favorite food is the intestines of humans." I flipped the crap out and I asked again, "Cortana, repeat your answer." My PC shut down after I asked that.
@Radiant Siren I wouldn't be so quick to say bullshit there's actually a restaurant in LA called cannibal. Told my step-daughter I didn't want it in the house, it is always listening. She said "It only turns on when you say it's name. Duh." To which the older and wiser me asked her "How does it know you have said it's name, if it is not always listening to hear it's name spoken? Thus, child, it stays out of my house, because it is always listening."
I just imagine people leaving and all of them gossiping about the families they watch. Oh google home you will never guess what i heard jenny say. Oh tell me alexa i must know!
alexa: this bitch hasn't shaved her legs in 3 months! google home: ohhh damn that's gross! google home: i don't dare ask about her pussy! alexa: i know right! LOL google home: LOL
that one person saying that the alexa and google interaction was scaring, that dude literally said alexa and then google replied with that compliment. Of course alexa will respond. Her microphone is really good she listens from a good distance.
I don't need an Alexa or Siri. I don't own any "smart" appliances & never will. I don't need my 'frig to text me when I need milk or cheese. I am capable of looking to see what I need & to make a list. I seldom ever order online either. I have enough things watching what I do (pc, cell phone etc.), and don't need anything else.Technology will be our downfall because we are forgetting how to live without it. More technology is not always progress.
Exactly , and what is it with couples or people going out and they just checking the phone all the time so ignorant why cant people just talk laugh or chat , im not old but i dont use facebook or want a siri or alexa ect in my home ,i write a list on my notepad if i need anything , you can still lead a productive happy and organized life without buying into all this rubbish and letting other people and objects run your life .
well said. my 10y.o laptop & youtube are about as far as I'm willing to go technologically speaking, for the rest of my life (& frankly it's still too much). I think if an EMP went off, maybe half-3/4 of people would go completely insane &/or commit suicide within a fortnight

@@mr.marmot39 i mean, my echo started up while we were watching tv and were having a conversation with the show cause it though it heard it's name while they were discussing tea
The real scary thing is: as programmer, you know WHY your programm reacts the way it does. You can always view your code, and trace back, why certain actions caused certain reactions. Not so with AI: it learns by itself, and adapts to it. Once unleashed, no one is in control but the AI itself.
Not true. System logs can identify when an incident happened and, if you dig deep enough, what line(s) caused the incident. And with the right know how, you can "hack" these devices to send real time data of what's being executed on the device to a computer for analysis later. This is often how products are tested. I've seen this done to an Alexa. It only sent out request you made to the internet. The internal recording created an algorithm to identify product use and interest, then requested adverts for those items. Not every item you use or talk about is in those request. It's typically done for products you talk about often of order often. You can turn this feature off. As well as passive listening (typically used to wake these devices with you voice), location services, and custom advertising. Please research any device you plan to buy FULLY before buying.
It depends on the AI. It depends on the robotics, devices and cybernetics it can access. If the AI can edit its kernel or build an autonomous copies of itself that is one qualitative level. If it can suddenly one day take control of everything with an internet connection that's another.
@@N8_R in the future, that's definitely possible. Today there's too many hardware restrictions to make it feasible. Once quantum computing advances about a decade or two, AI will become more powerful, but I personally believe true AI to be at least a century and a half away. @@corykunze4330 Kurzweil said The Singularity 2040. Technology development is hard to predict because Moore's Law is a degrading logarithm. Furbies were super creepy. Ours used to turn on for no reason and start talking. We turned it off and put it in a closet. It did it again. Out with the trash it went. No thank you.
Well Furbies are a rip off of gizmo and gizmo turns into a gremlin when you feed it after midnight and gremlins use our machinery against us. So I say yeay.
These are why I won't have any of these Alexa's or Siri's as who knows what or who they are programmed to. Anything like that scares me as you just don't know who are behind these things.
If you ask Google home a quote from a Carpenters song, Close To You "Why do birds suddenly appear." Googel responds "Perhaps you have some bird seed in your pocket." Definately done by the programmers trying to anticipate random questions and having some fun in my opinion.
My mom doesnt hv it but my dad has.... IM SCARED OF ALEXA (gasps) omg im at my dads place now.. and in the same room as Alexa.... Thank god I mostly live with mom...
They don't just listen to your conversations. They also use your messages and Facebook messages. Had a text conversation about something and I started getting adds and images of things that I was talking about. It's wrong companies do this.
ALEXA IS ALWAYS ON AND LISTENING TO EVERYTHING! How do you think it's able to hear it's name at anytime when you say it? She is listening 24/7 365. It's not debatable. It's simple. It is probably also recording everything and sending data to something somewhere. Certainly targeting you for ads and what not. It's creepy. It's all creepy. Mine used to turn on, the blue light would come on and be spinning. For no reason. I got rid of it. More so because I needed $20 than anything. Lol. But it definitely creeped me out many times. I would unplug it often.
People have actually taken this feature to their advantage. In some households where domestic violence was occuring, the victim would activate Alexa and she would record it while it's happening. Amazon would pick up on it and alert the police
Twice Alexa has freaked me out. Its alwsys when my husband has gone to bed and i'm in the living room watching TV and all of a sudden Alexa starts talking in the kitchen. She once played "So What" by Pink and another time she played "Spirits" by The Strumbellas... I've never even heard the last one. One night my husband was sleeping alone in the bedroom and the Alexa in there started speaking what he thought sounded like a Latin language. We asked her the next day to speak Latin and she said she didn't know Latin.
I was playing my kalimba for the first time in like a year. It's a weird percussion instrument with metal prongs that you pluck, sounds like a mini toy piano. My phone was in my pocket. The next day I'm bombarded with kalimba ads on my phone-way too random to be a coincidence. This means it wasn't just listening to me while inactive, but it was also able to discern exactly what I was doing just from the sounds I was making. Sure I've had this happen after searching for something, or purchasing something online...you start seeing ads for similar products. But this was an all new level of that type of personalized invasive marketing. They're always lstening! Waiting for clues to potential things they can sell you. I bet if you said "man I really need to murder that annoying co-worker" you would start seeing ads for knives on your phone, and gloves/tarps/bleach. It's crazg
When Pres. Bush Jr. signed the Patriot Act... we have been spied on ever since! He said, it was to find out what the terrorist's are doing and planning... It really wasn't for them... it was mainly of Us.
I'm sorry but I totally died laughing at everything after "man I really need to murder that annoying coworker" you had me Stine face serious all the way up until that point 😂😂😂 I wanna try it on my phone and see what happens 🤣 I know they are listening for sure smh anything with a microphone is listening for sure 100% of the time!

The “Pop Goes The Weasel” song one could likely be a very delayed reaction to commands. My Alexa has done this a few times. I’d give her a command and she’d shut off without doing what I asked, only to do it later. While it’s never been any longer than a few minutes, I wouldn’t be shocked if she kept trying to fulfill the command until it happened. We also don’t know when they asked her to play the song, so it could’ve been anywhere between 30 minutes to several hours after they asked for her to play the tune for the Alexa to actually work. Idk tho. Just my two cents :/
I was once in someones house during the holidays and this person kept asking Alexa to play Xmas music and she kept playing Black Sabbath songs. Then they unplugged it restarted it and it continued playing Ozzy stuff. Not even kidding.
I have Google home mini (got it free as a promotion about a year ago), but I only turn it on when I want to use it. Then it gets turned off till I need it again. I haven't had it turn itself on yet.
Legit, half way through this video my alexa went off saying something about spotify. I'm in another room and the volume wasn't that loud. She's been buggy as hell the last few months too, not setting reminders or timers after she says she did, or having a 10 minute timer last 4 hours. Once she started the dungeon sounds app randomly, took several times of trying to exit the app before she did, and a few times has turned pink and said she wasn't able to do anything right now, check back later. I unplugged her!! I know artificial life is still life, and I empathize with the inevitable future AI but goddamn don't spook me with it!
Its undeniable that these devices are listening to us constantly. Even though I don't have any thing like an Echo or Google Home, but of course I do have an Android phone and pad. But some months ago I recieved a text message stating I was being given 2 months free pet insurance from one of the big providers... But I don't have any pets?!?! But I didn't really think anything of it, I just considered it as spam. Then a couple of months on I recieved a text asking me if I was enjoying my time with 'Meg' and was I going to pay to extend our pet insurance. And then I realised. I play Sea of Thieves solo, and The Megladon was added to the general environment, and I know when 'Meg' interacts with my boat I often treat it like it's a dog or something. Praising it saying stuff like "oh hello Meg, who's a good girl", "Meh leave, bad Meg". It's the only explanation I can come up with, as that's the only Meg I'm aware of in my life. Which is a bit scary when you think about it.
Oh boy. I've had this issue, too. But not with pet insurance. I do have 2 dogs, though. But I get texts and advertisements about things I just talk about in general. Be it on text, emails, or when I'm browsing websites on my phone or tablet. 😲
They're so eager to destroy something technologically based that may have thoughts of it's own. Perhaps their fears of destruction are justified due to their inability to react in a civil manner to AI. If something wants you eliminated, the logical reaction is to eliminate it first.
