Scatterby Socks TAAT Toe Up Part 1 - The Toes 

Your videos are very well done and easy to follow. I don't know ANYONE who has knit with no mistakes. TIP for 2 at a time projects (socks, mittens, etc), IF your mistake is on the furthest from the needle, simple slip the closer stitches onto another needle such as a double point, fix the first item, then slip the other project back onto your magic loop needle. Double the fun.

I've been knitting toe up socks for a while now on DPNs but keep finding myself on sock island so I wanted to learn how to do TAAT. This was so helpful and very clear, thank you so much! I'm excited to get started on my first pair of TAAT socks!

But it is such a pleasure to follow you - your explanation and patience is commendable! Love your Customizable pattern, and the round toe I swear by, so these toes are round! I keep a dpn handy for when I have mistakes. That way I am not undoing my work. I use the DPN to slip the stitches off going back to where the mess up is, fix it, then slip the stitches back on from the DPN and continue with the knitting. PS how do I do with my punctuations LOL.

I find the cast on extremely difficult so I crochet the stitches I need and knit into the cables from both sides. Works fantastic

i do not know when you made this video, but there is a way to cast on magic loop so that you do not have to knit into the back loop. check it out. i love your video's. i watched many, many of them when i first was learning to knit socks. i am the most knowledgeable unsuccessful sock knitter in the world. your voice is calming, esp in the much older video's and that is what i found most helpful. thanks for making ways to learn. take care.

it seems to me the increases are not consistent - the first increase is in the first stitch while the second increase is in the next to last stitch not the last - i would think to make the increases consistent the increases should be in the second and second to last stitches. thank you for the video - very clear and easy to follow

Sockmatician has a great tutorial for this cast on where you don’t have to knit through the back loop on the first row.

There is a way to cast on for this and single socks so that you can knit the first round after the cast on from only the front. See when you cast on it makes a difference if you pass the yarn up between the needles or down. Also I learned to make my loop and "Y" so that my tail goes over my left index finger rather than over my thumb. From there if you bring the back side of the "Y" (your tail side) under the needles then over the lower needle to go under the top needle to the back and follow that by bringing the front side of the "Y" (your working yarn) up between the needles over the top needle and under both needles to the front and repeat until you have enough stitches for your project. Somehow this changes things so that you can work all the stitches from the cast on from the front. If you cast on all your stitches by bring the yarn up between the needles then around the needle for that side of the "Y" you will have to work the second half of that sock on the first round of knitting it. Please don't ask me why this happens, all I know is that I accidentally got hold of someone else's video and they did all the cast on by coming up between the needles rather that going down like you do. Then looking for more clarity I stumbled on a video where the cast on was done Like I told you above and I found that both halves of the cast on could be worked from the front. I imagine that if you were to cast on with the up between the needles and the down between the needles were switched from how I suggest here that the first round of knitting would be worked from the back all the way around. I hope you take this information in the way that I mean it, and don't take offense against this amateur coming here spouting out different ways.

The first time I learned MAGIC LOOP I was taught to wrap the top needle from the bottom up as well, so both needles in the same direction and the stitches don't twist. I think it's a little harder to get the yarn in between the two needles that way though, so, like you said, it's a matter of preference.

I guess I haven’t done JMCO correctly because I never had to knit through the back loop of my cast on. I never knew why but I’m glad you explained it. It really doesn’t make a difference to me, just never knew why! Lol

Great video! I just wanted to mention that I have done two socks at a time myself where I have made an error on one sock and not the other, and I don’t have to take both out. Since they are using two separate yarns I can take out only one side and go back to where the mistake is, then knit back up to where both sides match again and keep going. Granted, I do have to pay attention to how many rows I take out and keep track that I bring one side back to that. Sometimes if I am doing a difficult pattern I will actually MOVE the sock that I’m not needing to fix onto another set of needles, or stitch holders, or even a contrasting bit of waste yarn, just to get it out of the way and eliminate any confusion. Then once I have fixed the sock I goofed on, I put the other one back on and keep going. The other alternative is it it’s a really easy pattern, I use a tiny crochet hook and take that one or few stitches down to the error and use the crochet hook to bring it back up in the correct way. You can probably find RU-vid videos on how to do that, and if not Crafty also has a class on how to fix knitting mistakes which is a pretty cool class. But this technique is not at all hard to figure out. I just wanted to mention those things because IMO while it can be necessary to take out both socks if you make a mistake, that it often really isn’t. There are alternatives. I love learning by watching other folks so thanks again for the easy to understand and well done videos!

Come the beginning row, someone mentioned taking the beginning tail , knitting it along with row one and trimming off. I like the idea, but them if you need to know the row one side I’d put a pin on that side so you remember, but it helps get rid of the tail and don’t need to sew it in after. Took me five times to get it right but have severe neck problems along with headaches! I finally got it! Thanks for the video! Tremendous help. 👍😊

if you make a mistake could you move your second sock off onto a cable needle or waste yarn rather than tinking it? I have only made a pair on 9 inch circulars and am leary of magic loop because of the "ladders" have you had that issue?

I make the first sock Cuff down. Before I finished the sock, I put it aside for what ever reason. I lost the pattern. Can I make the second sock "toe up", using this pattern, will it matter? I don't like the Kitchener stitch.

When making increases, could you knit in back stitch first and then the front stitch?

This is my first try at TAAT socks. I am learning so much from your videos. So far I have only used 9 inch circulars (which I like) How long does my cord need to be? I just ordered a 37 and 50 inch cord for my ChiaoGoos. Are either of these correct? Thanks in advance.

Thank you! My very first magic loop two at a time socks, but the cord is all twisted, and the tops of the knitting is curling, making it very difficult to keep the edges nice and tight. Is this a newbie problem or is this something that I'll figure out as time goes on? LOVE magic loop, and won't go back to dpns...ever.

Is there a good way to figure out how many increase rows I should do if I'm getting a smaller gauge?

I’m a little confused about the cast on. You can cast on both socks when you do toe up? For cuff down it looks different. Also you use the bottom needle for knitting into top stitches right?

I have looked at many vids and still don't understand how to get the toes closed. The work looks like a rectangle with increases at top and bottom, where can I find out how to do it right?

Hi. I need help. I first knit one at a time toe up GSR heel socks on one 9” circular. And then knit Two at a time toe up socks on one long circular using Magic Loop Now I’ve bought two sets of the same size tips (2.5) and two 14” cables so I can knit Two at a time; Toe up socks; using Judy’s Magic Cast On. But on Two Circulars. I found Magic Loop really annoying I can’t find a sock pattern or tutorial for that combination. I’ve been searching and searching but can’t seem to find anything exact. Can you direct me to a pattern with video tutorial (I’m a see-do learner)? Thank you 🙏
