Today's video is a little different. Just wanted to take you along with me and my wife on a scavenging for Garlic Mustard. Which is an edible wild plant.
This wild plant kept people fed during the Great Depression. Aside from its fragrant and tasty properties, garlic mustard has a whole lot of medicinal benefits. Traditionally, the plant was used as a antiseptic for wounds and eaten as a diuretic. It's also rich in vitamins A,B,C, and E, and many trace minerals. As with many plants found in the park, there are historical medicinal uses for garlic mustard, ranging from treating bronchitis to gangrene.
These foraging trade are slowly disappearing as time goes by. People nowadays rely too much on supermarkets. But what if one day, for whatever reason something was to go wrong. Like the "Great Depression" was a severe, world - wide econmic disintegration symbolized in the United States by the stock market crash on " Black Thursday", October 24, 1929.
