I still cannot forget the scene when Tom Cruise's character realizes who "Rainman" is.

Tom Cruise: "Whoa, that woman can count to four."

Plot twist: he knew that the packet contained 250 toothpicks and just saw the 4 inside.

Now.. imagine he just saw the 4 left and did a much easier math problem and they assumed he counted the floor cause he’s always looking down

My nephew is autistic and when I go through maths questions with him, his mental calculating speed is phenomenal. They’re wired different. The rest of us are just playing catch up.

This is amazing because most people often to count larger quantities in packets like this but its usually 5 or less each packet. To do this in sets of 82 is insane.

I met the real Rainman as a kid (the person this character was based off of). He came to my elementary school where they held an assembly so the kids could meet him. Really bad idea, unfortunately, because the kids just laughed at him and it seemed to stress him out. I asked him a math question that I thought was hard (like what's this big number times this big number). He answered it right away, but nobody had a calculator to check his answer or anything, lol. This was in the nineties, way before mobile phones.

One of the best movies Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise ever played in together. I wish I had the knowledge like that, just look at something and know how many there is, anything that is.

Technically 245 because ray had one in his hand, but its fine because this movie was a masterpiece, loved every second, for those who don’t know, the name of the movie is “Rain Man”

I have an autistic cousin who only knows how to say “leave it alone” until you ask him actual academic questions, he’s also extremely heavy handed. It really makes you stop and think about how blessed everyone is in their own way.

It makes you wonder what the human brain is really capable of.

Rewatched it a few days ago, A very touchwarming masterpiece of film, based on the true story of Kim Peek, the actual Rain Man. An excellent Cast with Hoffman nailing the role despite the difficulty being expected, Hoffman's influence and his depiction were perfectly done, and deservingly of it awards, I don't think anyone else could be cast other than him, with Tom Cruise, and Golino, just as great to the performance, an excellent soundtrack, storyline, dialog and effects. Overall the film was perfection in capturing our hearts, and respect for the Rain Man. Obviously, a bit pushed the story is in comparison to the true story, but that's Hollywood. Not a single dull moment, whether be the Poker Scene to the simple scenes of them at home, Covering comedy, action, hearts, anger, sadness and just loads of emotions, by the end of it, your left with so much sympathy, admiration and respect. A film that does not deserve to be spoiled, but a must-watch. 1.16.23

Wonderful movie Rainman!

This was filmed in Newport, Kentucky, in the bar of an Italian restaurant called Pompilio's which is directly across the street from grandparents' old pharmacy and in front of the house my grandpa was born in. Pompilio's is still open.

Plot twist: He had already seen that toothpick box before, knew the total no of toothpicks and just counted the number of toothpick left in the box. 😁

For real, welcome to how my brain works. A million miles an hour. Seeing things in obsessive details before moving to the next thing. When I was a young kid, my teachers wanted to put me on stupid pills. I would finish my classwork in record time and then distract my classmates by trying to play with them. At first the teacher thought I was blowing off the classwork, but it was done perfectly. I thank God everyday that they pulled me out of school and homeschooled me. I was awkward growing up but had a few close friends that stuck with me till this day. Married a nice girl, have a couple kids, and a nice job.

The actress who played the waitress, was GORGEOUS, even though she had a one line bit part.
