A beauty of a day to get out and enjoy all the great sights along the Petawawa for sure! Gotta take advantage of as many good weather days one can this time of year as you never know when it's going to turn rather rough!

Sure brought back some memories...The Petawawa enters Lac du Bois Dur at Forks Island North of Black Bay and we would go up it by canoe to fish bass and pike and hunt ducks in the fall. Now probably off limits to any travel... we also used to put in at Race Horse Rapids and pull out at Paquettes Landing.... lots of white water and always a wet trip.... The Barron River to First Chute, the trip you took, was always fun in our Cedar Strip and 18 Evinrude. Loved the cliffs. When the spring log drives were still on you had to be really careful of deadheads. We once hit one at full tilt and cracked a seam... only time we ever hurt that old Peterborough cedar strip. Once we actually portaged that boat to above First Chute... crazy we were...lol

Wow! My wife and I love your comments. Things were so different back then I'm Sure. Most people I know refer to the barron river up to the narrows as the Petawawa River even though it's technically the barron as you pointed out. Funny how things change. Thanks for your support.

@@NTSAdventures When I was 14 years young I saved up $7.50 and bought a sporterized .303 Lee Enfield Mark 3 with ramp sights from the Sears catalogue and proceeded to get a deer license by saying that I was 16. Ammo for deer hunting was (free )military ball .303 with 1/4 inch cut off the tip. Halfway up the river trip you took to First Chute on on the South side there is a little point on which you could camp and walk up to the top of the cliff where there was a deer trail beaten in from centuries of usage from deer. No heater and a Woods Canvas Tent with snow on the ground was always an early November adventure due to Ice on the river. Tagged my first deer there in November 1959. My father showed up at suppertime and the 10 pointer was already cleaned and hanging up at the camp and he was some amazed. Met this really old guy the next day from Alice Twp. who showed me his 1893 Winchester with an octagon barrel which he claimed he bought new when they first came out. He had walked in from the main road over the hills and said he was 87 years old. I thought then how great it would be, to still be able to hunt deer at 80. Muzzle loader season in NS opened on the 21st and I was out. lol
