The Line Up, seen as a method, has been part of our detection dog training from the very beginning. Of course we have changed our approach, our focus and the general use of the line up in the past years, also we've developed our own search consoles to improve our training.
Today we mainly use the Line Up to teach the following things to our dogs:
•) first structured search from A to Z
•) quick responses to target odors
•) prolonging TFR by bridging
•) discrimination of controls / distractors
•) conditioning new target odors
•) first single ad double blinds
•) variable reinforcement schedule
•) different ways to reward the dog for key behavior: announced, unannounced, not at all
...
In this video you can see an evolution of how it is done. The whole session lasted around 7 minutes, we decided to cut it here and there to get rid of some less educational moments and comments of Chris and Flo 💩 BUT still it is this dogs first run at the Line Up, he learns fast and we have learned our selfs throughout the years to not spend too much attention on small mistakes or "trial and error - moments" of the dog. We used to reset every single error and mistake, not anymore, at least not every time or the very first time. We try to address the learner with feedback for wanted behavior, unwanted behavior can be ignored to be reduced BUT of course this only works during learning session where not big issues have yet evolved. Manifested problem behaviors need to be dealt with in a different way!
You have any questions? You want to join our online program? You want to buy a Kynotec Line Up (btw. we used to old version, meanwhile the line up has developed as well)? Then each out to us!
