Schaaf Tools product review. An unauthorized endorsement of Schaaf Tools (woodcarving chisels) demonstrating how they were evaluated against other woodcarving chisels.
Thank you sir for the review on these gouges. I ordered them because of your review. A woodworker myself; I'm always looking for more chisels to add to my collection. Have a great day.
I've been on the fence about buying the Shaaf as a first set of carving chisels because I've looked at a lot of the less expensive sets and didnt trust the steels in addition to all the work I know I would have to do to make them usable it would negate the point of buying a less expensive tool, not having a vendor that carries these locally I cant check them out prior to purchase so I'm stuck buying online and I always hesitate until I can find someone that's done a comprehensive review. you've provided me that review and now I'm confident that I can purchase these without being taken for a ride. thank you.
They really aren't all that difficult to "commission" a set of these, especially if you have any experience sharpening other woodworking tools. One great thing about the Schaaf tools is that they do honor the guarantee (even though I haven't had to replace any of mine). Do go their web page and subscribe with them because you can get a code for a10% discount for your first purchase from the company. Please do post what you think about them after you have gotten a chance to use them. Have fun.
@@mikeevans3766 I'm good with sharpening tools but I didn't want to start with blunt and take them to a usable sharpness. These needed a little work but not a lot
I bought the sets of 12 and 7. Razor sharp but all the V - chisels and a few gouges arrived chipped and irregular, not square. I know how to sharpen but as a beginner I don`t know how to reshape them. Anyways I enjoy all your videos.
Nice review. Congratulations. I have a question because I see that you have a lot of experience in this field. They will bring me some chisels soon Millers Falls tools Are the chisels of this brand good?
I bought some Schaaf chisels earlier this year at the recommendation of a woodcarving site. Mine are terrible! Do NOT buy them. They look like the people who make them do not care and only know how to make a chisel-like tool. The tang on more than a few were not set into the handle straight and many of the edges are malformed and uneven. Even with sharpening and honing they did not perform well at all. Save your money no buying something better.
Thank you for the review/evaluation. Have been looking into carving tools and want to try it but dont want to break the wallet just to make sure if I dont fall in love with it, I wond feel bad about spending money son something like "Swiss made"
