The MESA hardware is a 7i92/7i83/7i84/7i85/7i73. You woud normally use an integrated card such as this 7i77 for this, but I wanted to complicate things unnecessarily.

As a card carrying riff raff member, I can confirm that 5:14 is exactly what I signed up for. Mark, you never fail to disappoint mate. I'd also like to see more cooking too. I'm glad the Festo kit did indeed turn out to have the complete set for you, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this build comes together. PS. Vinegar is the second most useful universal solvent after dihydrogen monoxide although it is slightly less dangerous due to its strong odour.

Luckily the air supply has the dihydrogen monoxide separator to protect the schaublin from it's dangers :) Thanks for the feedback.

Great content as always! My servos and drives just arrived for a conversion im doing, they look pretty simmilar too!! Im going the ethercat/linux CNC route. I think it ends up being a much more simplistic and powerful system than the mesa cards. You can also control the drive IO from linuix cnc via the ethercat network. Depending on your setup you may not even need the extra IO modules, only the drives. Ill post a video when i get some time!

I looked into EtherCat following ThisOldTonies use of it on the Maho. Seems a powerful system. A large reason for me to stay with Mesa hardware is that I am familiar with it, and can leverage what I already learned.

Any particular benefit to cleaning the 3d plate with vinegar? The first solvent I usually reach for (for anything) is isopropanol; I guess vinegar is probably cheaper?

My casting technique is not goood enough for that. I have only down a couple of iron castings, and still get a lot of inclusions.

If you put two valves spacer repeat ##_##_## you could ease getting fingers to the release rings on one side of any valve when all piped up.

if i remember correctly the locking mechanism on the tailstock is just a bit of round bar with a threaded hole in it and a radius that fits the ram

I am trying to figure out what linuxcnc version to use and how to set it up, I am constantly jumping back and forth and trying different options and seemingly getting nowhere, If you would go over it in some reasanable detail in your future videos I would greatly appraciate it

I just use whatever is the most current stable version. My Maho is still on 2.7 something as it works fine. On the Mini lathe is 2.8.?? which is also stable. The change to joints with 2.8 makes migrating the Maho a bit daunting for me, but my Gearbox.comp needs a minor functional change, and my mate who programmed it is threatening to upgrade to the curent version. Basically just use latest greatest. No real disadvantage. I will cover setting it up once I get to that, but it may take a while.

@@RotarySMP I am also trying an SD card adapter to mini pci Express instead of using an ssd over sata II, the ssd I have is 128 gigs, I think it is way too much, 8 gigs for a system like this should be enough, but I have to say it is pretty fast, the SD card adapter is pretty slow, not sure which way I will go.

I was looking around for CAM options for lathe, nothing much out there that's hobby friendly (as in free) or that runs on Linux. What's your recommendation ?

I never really used CAM much on a lathe. Because most of what you turn are simple facing and turning parts, I tend to just hand code a lot. Andy Pugh did a great plug in for LinuxCNC for conversational programming.

"This filter unit is beautifully made" "Norgren, England" So what we can establish from that is Norgren were not a manufacturer with a heavily unionised workforce ;) Have you checked either tailstocks for correct centre height? I'd assume being Schaublin they'd both be pretty much spot on but we all know where assuming can get us, if one is better than the other in some way on the alignment side that could settle which you keep/use.

ok, this is very pedantic, but it sounds like you say linux as "li knocks"... but the "ux" part of "linux" is pronounced like how you would say the "ux" part of "tuxedo" i am sorry for my pedantry.

Yeah, and Schaublin standardised on M8x1 which no pneumaitc maker does. Luckily there are some central lube fittigs which should work.
