I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia at age 19or20, showed symptoms around age 16. I've been through hell (most who've experienced the madness have been there.) Been both homicidal and suicidal-- didn't follow through on the homicide, but my heart desperately called for me to plunge a knife deep into it, and promised me great pleasure if I did; I was on the edge. Today I'm 100% free of the illness, and I'm starting a RU-vid series detailing the simple, yet effective methods that I used to get the outcome that I have achieved.
In this video I talk about one of, if not the most important factor that brought me to the results that I've obtained, and that is the power of words, both oral and mental. I'm reminded of the well known saying:
“Watch your thoughts, they become words;
watch your words, they become actions;
watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
With this we see the profound effects that our thoughts can have on what we become in life, and our words give life to our thoughts and contribute in either freeing or keeping us imprisoned by the illness.
We choose how we are defined and what it is that defines us, and this is why I say choose your words carefully when speaking about mental illness in relation to yourself.
Thanks for taking the time.

Yesssss!!! Words are very powerful. There's a Bible verse that says, "Life and death are in the power of the tongue." Thanks for illuminating this topic and being vulnerable to share your story. The themes of faith, hope , belief, and confidence stood out to me. I really enjoyed your take on this topic. Keep smiling and sharing your success story. 🙌🏾

7:25 -- right, the first thing I learned in Sociology (my undergraduate degree) was the "labeling theory." If you label a child as being dumb, for example, and that they will never amount to anything, that is what will happen (unless they somehow undo that label).

Is there a reason why your glasses are on? I ask because my husband did the same thing.

Oh I didn't see this comment. Sorry for the late reply. There was a reason for the glasses actually, but nothing schizophrenia related. I had pink eye, lol. I was waiting for someone to ask me this cause it was a little odd 😂😂 I'm not sure why your husband wears his, but hopefully he'll get beyond it. It is possible, so keep hope alive.
