What is schizophrenia? Schizophrenia describes a scattered or fragmented pattern of thinking. Schizophrenia’s actually a syndrome, meaning there’re all sorts of symptoms that might be associated with it and different patients might experience different symptoms, although the symptoms can be broadly categorized into three major areas: positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and cognitive symptoms. I have schizophrenia. I spent most of my teenage years in a mental hospital. Doctors didn't want to treat me at first because i'm too young. The other patients would make fun of me because of my illness. Everything started when i was in a 3 days long unresponsive catatonic state with constant hallucinations. I thought i was dead. I'd see demons and monsters and i felt their touch on my skin. They wouldn't leave. It was neverending. It was hell. Since this day I've been very sick with this illness and was kept in intensive psych care because all i could do was cry until i couldn't feel my face, scream until i couldn't breathe and try to end my life. I thought other humans were monsters too. I thought they wanted to kill me. I thought my mom and my dad wanted to kill me. This illness is hell. I want everyone who has it to know that that medications can help and that therapy can help and that i know it hurts and that you may want to end it all but it will be okay. Even though you don't know it, you're stronger than the monsters in your head.

Your mind is very powerful it can make you see and hear things . I only had the phase for 6 months but those were the longest 6 months . I lost my friends, I stopped going to school and slept with my mom cause all I could hear was screams . You’re not alone , please don’t let it win.

I have two main voices in my head one loud saying DO THIS AND THIS AND THIS and they other distant telling me other things and they distant voice is always murmuring on and on about "kill them" "your not good enough" "do it" and he loud voice obeys. The loud voice changes into the voices of the ones speaking and will flip and alter the voices so it takes me a minute to understand. I have other voices but those will say a few things and leave the loud voice and the distant voice to think about it. Like now I'm terrified of turning off my light to go to bed because I know I'll see my old dead cat running out of the room and I'll see my face scowling at me in the mirror when I'm looking away

not really. it is a weak video. this is supposed to be for med students and related sciences, therefore too little neuroscience and pathophysiology you mention clozapine and then go on to talk about D2 which first of all is wrong. Clozapine has no effect on D2, but D4 instead. Also more important it has a high affinity for 5-HT2A serotonine receptors, and that brings us to the serotonine theory of schizophrenia. all in all crappy video, too little real academic information

In the last few years of my life I have become friends with several schizophrenic people. In every single schizophrenic friend, I learned there was great physical abuse during the young formative years. Constant physical, mental, sexual, emotional or psychological abuse during their childhood seemed to traumatize all of them....and everything was worse when the abuse seemed to almost always come from the very same people that were responsible for loving them and making them feel safe and cared for. Shame on grown people who abuse their own young innocent blood....i dont think it is a coincidence that my friends who were severly and regularly abused as youngsters, in some way, are schizophrenic ....just my own observation
@harryrigney936
@harryrigney936 6 лет назад
I completely agree. ACE's or Adverse Childhood Experiences are thought to play a huge role on whether a person develops schizophrenia. This is also the case for other types of mental illness such as personality disorder. However I would like to ask you to not refer to people as Schizophrenic, but as 'A person with a diagnosis of schizophrenia'. Using the word schizophrenic sounds like it defines who they are, when it is in fact an illness that a person can live with.

I believe that abuse, neglect, trauma of some sort is the cause in nearly every case. People that have been bruised, harmed by others in some way. The " medical profession " largley fails to see and or understand this. Self inflicted, mistakes, choices, that we make in life. Can also bring about this affliction and symptons characteristic of schizophrenia.
@tianasixkiller4771
@tianasixkiller4771 5 лет назад
In these cases, I think it is severe PTSD and possibly a form of personality disorder which serves as a type of coping and protective mechanism for the patient. I also believe that for these patients, those 2 DX should be visited first and thoroughly investigated before attaching the Schitzophrenic label on the patients. I was an N.A. and have come across and cared for many patients who were victims of violent crimes of many kinds and those who had very good lives from good homes without violence having happened to them at all. Right off the bat, the victims of violent crimes weather it was sexual, physical, or any other abuse seemed to be okay until something triggered them. This was pre-dx and medication as well. Those with a firm dx who had never experienced violence and became non-compliant with medication drifted in and out of classic schitzophrenic and normal behaviors with the schizophrenic behaviors being acute and most prevalent. I think that the NIH need to do studies involving these two groups also adding a normal control group for comparison and to understand more about the behaviors of victims of violent crimes v the psychiatric behaviors of properly dx'd schitzophrenic patients. I don't believe it is fair to patients and even mentally, emotionally more damaging to them when they recieve a dx of Schitzophrenia. I have also personally known family members and friends who have received the schitzo badge following very serious crimes when they were suffering severe symptoms of having been victims of violent crime. PTSD can carry many characteristics of Schizophrenia such as seeing things or hearing voices that aren't there during a PTSD episode. One family member woke one morning screaming that her violator had been in her room doing vile things at the foot if her bed when she woke. She swore he was there. It took me a couple of hours to reassure her he was not, and that he was locked up in jail where he should be. Another time we took her to the beach and she swore one of her violators (there were 3. One of them a female,) and was triggered by a woman who looked similar to the violator on her blanket adjacent to us. She became panicked and insisted she was there to kill her for telling on the offenders who were more than 800 miles away and incarcerated without bond. PTSD is very powerful. For victims PTSD must not be confused with schitzophrenia. That mistake, (and it IS a very egregious mistake that is damaging to the victim,) should not EVER be made. The end.

I have schizophrenia- I was diagnosed with it when I was 6-7 , at first my parents thought I was crazy because I would talk back to these “hallucinations” but it got worse to the point where I started acted on it -(obviously I was 6 so I didn’t know I had it ) but my mom knew there was something wrong with me when I chased a cat around the house and started talking to it . I went to the hospital a lot growing up and spend most of my life in a mental hospital- everyone would make fun of me and call me crazy at first I was lucky - my hallucinations where just nice things , cats ,friends that I wished I had - but then when I became 12 it started to get really bad - I started seeing demons , monsters , and started to hear loud voices that would speak in deep dark tones. I would always react negatively and scream and shout a lot and so I got bullied even more. I was so scared to the point I tried to commit suicide but this made my life worse when I failed because I was in an even more secure environment now and I couldn’t do much . I slowly started to confront these images and started to become more confident. When I was 19 I was able to leave because I was able to somewhat ignore them more - I still see and hear them and get distracted by them but I got help- my parents and I no longer where in contact I left for school immediately after becuase they decided to neglect me from a young age and they pretended that they where actually there for me . Sometimes I would hallucinate them trying to kill me - anyways flash forward 4 years at age 23 I am now happily married with a beautiful child and is a housewife. I don’t know how my life turned out so amazing it’s quite shocking after all the suffering I feel really blessed

Stranded73, Hi, if you're hearing voices in your head, like me, you're not crazy as others think you are. Unless you suffered from a serious head injury or you're a regular user of meth or LSD, there's nothing wrong with you. You belong to the roughly 1 to 5% of the world's population that have what is known as a third eye or third ear -the ability to see and/or hear spirits and entities. I've dealt with this condition for more than 20 years now. Initially I took those pills and did therapy sessions as recommended but I never got better - the voices were still there - they came back after my medication wore off. So I did my own research and found out about the spiritual dimension of my condition. Medical Science ignores the effects of spirits, they only see it as a medical/physical condition, believing that you're just suffering from auditory hallucination etc. So clearly they really won't be able to cure you, not knowing what the real problem is. If you believe in God (I hope you do) then you also know that there are angels and demons, wandering spirits and entities etc. They are part of what the Bible terms as " powers and principalities " that rule this earth. You might think I'm crazy weird but I'm not. I'm a retired Civil Engineer from the Philippines, did some 11 years of service in our government in the early 1980's as a water supply engineer. I also visited the USA sometime in 1991 to 2000, studied computer programming there and even made it to the honors class. You're not dealing with a wacko or a loser. I'm serious, analytical and in good physical and mental health, even at my age (63 y/o). At the height of my depression in 2001, I turned to God and the Bible. So I'm familiar with its many passages. Going back to the topic of spirits, this is what they do. These spirits can talk to us telephatically or by using other meduims/people. When you speak to them, they speak back. Some are jealous of others people company. They want to isolate you. They like certain parts of your home like your bedroom or bathroom . They can distort speech/sound to confuse or anger you. They can imitate your friend or even your enemy's speech. They can produce other sounds like the doorbell ringing, glass breaking, walls pounding, cat purring or even wailing police sirens. They can play tricks on your mind. They want you to be dependent on them or afraid of them - to isolate you from others. Some spirits attach themselves to you after you visit a certain place like a cemetery, hospital or haunted house. Like people, some spirits are good while others are bad. There's a certain type of spirit called the trickster or joker who is naughty at most like a child. The irony of it is usually it is only you that can hear/see these things. Like a TV channel, they can tune in to your wavelength, while ignoring others. So people think you're crazy. Since the root problem is spiritual, the cure is also spiritual. Go to God and ask for His help/ protection. I hope and pray that you find peace. Stop wasting your time and money on medicines and treatment - they are not permanent cures. SOME BIBLICAL PROOFS of the SPIRITS power. In the Bible you can read the Tower of Babel episode where the peoples languages were altered. In the story of Gideon, he and his men simply lighted torches and broke jars at night near the enemy camp. Their enemies killed each other !! Great deception by the spirits/ angels. In another episode the apostle Paul, on the way to Damascus hears the voice of Jesus Christ, while his companions only hear thunder. At a gathering of new converts, the apostle Peter speaks to a crowd and they hear his message in their own language or tongue. etc

Im schizophrenic and to lose it this is the alternative approach, drop those meds. drink at least 500mg of niacine and tryptophan 5htp everyday trust me you will feel a tremendous change but it should go with fasting. Niacin and tryptophan are not meds but supplements so it doesnt have any side effects. avoid meats, junkfood, and sugar and lose that weight, and don't go on yoyo dieting wherein you get thin, you get fat, you get thin again then you get fat again. it will worsen it. it will just benefit them cause you are giving out bad life force/energy/aura. stick into being thin. just eat Vegetables and fruits. your body is a temple. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice thanks. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you.

@falloutgrim4691
@falloutgrim4691 2 года назад
@@aishwarshukla5237 the first thing i believe is excepting it as something apart of you not pushing it away and causing internal conflict within your psyche. i like to see my way of life and "normal" peoples lives are not so different, we all have our difficulty's in life and challenges that we must endure day to day people with schizophrenia just have problems we only have as the same as other do and it helps me not feel alienated from others. another is grounding, its difficult and sometimes impossible to ground yourself into reality even if you know its not real, i know that keeping out stress in my life has helped me hold a strong mental stability from the years and another is a strong internal grounding "key" my name is Chris irl but weirdly ive connected with the name Fallout so much that its more grounding to call myself that and can help with episodes. its important for people with schizophrenia i think, is to do what you need to do to help you not what you think society thinks you should do to help. what matters is your own internal and mental stability and being able to have a footing to gain stronger as a person within the chaos. another idk how many people experience this but there will be some so ill touch on it, the allurer of the chaos, i can understand wanting to let the chaos overtake and go completely into the episodes and the hallucinations, over my life ive chased it and let it overtake me many times in my life but its not long term and never could be viable, you don't need to take it out of your life but you must understand that its like a drug but isn't healthy, there is much in life and can truly be worth your time and can be vary exciting, if its other things your chasing then, Pease and calmness can be ok it really can and it toke me a long time to be ok with it, the rage or urges or anything that drives you, the calm and relaxed can truly be a good way of life. if you or anyone has any other questions ill gladly answer. i just tried to touch on a broad area i hope touches all reaches of schizophrenia. so my last advice is that your all not alone and your all normal to me.

I F-ing hate schizophrenia, but I love my kiddo. She was diagnosed with very early onset at 8 years old. She’s 15 and each day that she’s alive is a gift. The glorious moments that she is lucid are beautiful moments that I hold tight to. It’s not an illness I’d wish on my worst enemies.

Last night, my roommate of 3 years now completely broke down and showed signs specifically of disorganized speech and total delusion. I was terrified and emotionally crushed watching him like this. I really appreciate your video, it helped me better understand exactly what I witnessed. That being said, I would also like to say that my roommate has had several concussions in his life and was recently diagnosed with PCS (post concussive syndrome). Since this diagnosis, he has been different and not the same agreeable person he once was. I could begin to see mere thought of his brain being permanently damaged really start to take a toll on him. I believe this brain damage could be a cause for a potential schizophrenia diagnosis, or it at least accelerated his symptoms (he is 21). My roommate is my best friend and one of the best people I know. It is incredibly painful to watch someone you care about suffer and you not be able to help. Thank you again for providing such an educative video, I hope to continue to learn how to best understand and be there for my friend.

Clozapine has no effect on D2, but D4 instead. Also more important it has a high affinity for 5-HT2A serotonine receptors, and that brings us to the serotonine theory of schizophrenia. all in all crappy video, too little real academic information

I USED to have schizophrenia, remember those who diagnose do not beleive in the spiritual they beleive in only what they see. Anyways not going to argue about that. But If you want to see how I beaten it and if you want HOPE to get completely cured. Then watch my video on my page. Its called" schizophrenia no more. (Cured)". I did this video because I'm tired of the world not giving those who suffer from schizophrenia any hope. There is no cure with those who diagnose it because they do not know the truth and don't beleive. Please, I feel for you if you have it and want you to not suffer anymore.

He told me no, but did it anyways.. and it was nowhere to be found. I cried lol. This was when I was very young, probably a toddler, or a little bit older.. like 5/6.

Erebma Dammahom sounds pretty spooky. I had something worse happen during Christmas. Saw my Grandma in a red shirt grab something and move to the the basement door, walking down. Saw it in the corner of my eye or as I turned to look back at the paper I was drawing on. Then, I went to the basement to get her for something. Light was off, turned it on, she wasn’t there. Called her name, and she was in the bathroom down the hall, far from the basement. It was really odd. She wasn’t wearing a red shirt either.

I have a schizophrenic uncle who I live with, he's my best friend and I love playing games with him, before I knew his illness we would always spend time together and be happy, but he lost his job and that got him depressed, he started acting out of the ordinary as he would talk to himself, laugh at nothing, listen to music alot (in my family we listen to music alot when we feel sad and others) and etc, I felt scared and after what I learned I realized he had schizophrenia, I told a few of my friends about this since I never really liked the bad thoughts that symptom would bring up as it would make me feel depressed, some people would bully me about it calling my uncle a maniac and insane, some people would compare me to him and also call me insane, for the people who call people maniacs and other names with schizophrenia, that is completely wrong, schizophrenia is a symptom where people are not themselves and go to a state where they're depressed at times, they don't mean anything they say and do when it affects them, and the way doctors treat them so carelessly is outrageous, my uncle has never been properly treated because of how careless they where, but now he's gladly doing better, to anyone who has this symptom please know everything will be fine, lots of people go through what your going through, you are not alone, you can always get through anything no matter how hard it can be.

He went into a psychosis state last week and my dad being a doctor said he has all the symptoms of one side of schizophrenia (the negative side I believe.. he doesn't have hallucinations or delusions) anyway I am here to learn all I can to better support him. I am Absolutely heartbroken to see my brother this way. He has the disorganized speech and he's catatonic and has the speech poverty and disorganized actions. And I'm sure more, as far as we know he has no hallucinations or delusions. But again, he won't really talk so we don't know everything going on in his head.

Hi everyone, so sorry.. I never seen the notifications for these comments. I'm not really sure the extent of the tests for it. I just know my dad diagnosed him. Obviously tests were done.. I just never asked about what exactly those were. As far as how my brother is at this point.. he's a tiny bit better. Only because my dad has to literally give him injections of his meds because he wouldn't take his pills. He would do something with them that made my dad think he took them but didn't actually take them. So he has injections now. It's a really sad situation. He's a little more comprehensive and clearly spoken now. But he's got long term issues that meds aren't helping with that we can see. Like, he still will kinda pace and mumble sometimes and has moments where he's not completely lucid? That's the best way I can describe it. However, seems that we can kinda bring him out of that by speaking to him and getting his attention focused on something. Unlike when he was unmedicated he stayed in that state perpetually. I appreciate all the concern and inquiries about him. Thank you all so much ❤️

In hospitals, we meet those patients, which is quite hard to deal with as we are understaffed and do not even have enough time to do our own job. Heres some good natured, passive aggressive advice for you if you still don't get it. You should avoid treating people like they have a disease that needs to be cured, its condescending and it only furthers the problem. Imagine telling somebody they have to be locked away because they aren't healthy and they need to be completely changed into what society wants them to be. Ya it will make everything worse, so just remember that when you go to work to contribute to a system that is using you and its victims for money. Sure hospitals do lots of great work, they're built on good people, you seem nice for example. So if you work there you know that not every doctor and business man who walks through the door is a glowing example of humanity. In fact I say the consensus the scientific community has on the subject, proves that most of them are imperialistic and self centered psychopaths who are indifferent to their patients. See what I did there, you can make anybody seem like a bad person with the right manipulation, but my lack of authority combined with an over generalization doesn't really make it convincing. In reality, anyone can sow dissent into anybody in any situation with enough mind games. This whole video feeds the narrative that you cannot rely on people with so called mental impairments, I am constantly trying to prove it wrong by pointing out these ridiculous snipes, its only a weakness because you convinced everybody it was.

Im schizophrenic and to lose it this is the alternative approach, drop those meds. drink at least 500mg of niacine and tryptophan 5htp everyday trust me you will feel a tremendous change but it should go with fasting. Niacin and tryptophan are not meds but supplements so it doesnt have any side effects. avoid meats, junkfood, and sugar and lose that weight, and don't go on yoyo dieting wherein you get thin, you get fat, you get thin again then you get fat again. it will worsen it. it will just benefit them cause you are giving out bad life force/energy/aura. stick into being thin. just eat Vegetables and fruits. your body is a temple. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice thanks. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you.

Can you imagine what it’s like to be terrified/shocked all the time? Try to remember a time when you were scared, like a near-miss car accident. That feeling usually only lasts for a few seconds or minutes. Now imagine having that feeling practically all day, every day. I would think this is what soldiers in wars experience and why they often have such extreme emotional consequences to heavy and/or repeated battle situations.

My sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia about 3 years ago. We had a very close bond, I helped her as I could. About 2 years ago she turned very badly against me, my husband and other members of our family. She is completely under the influence of one of our sisters which is a covert narcicisist. She clearly uses her as a "soldier" to "execute" her evil plans and attacks against some other members of our family (including me). I went no contact to survive and save myself from all the abuse, in one recent occasion I've also been fisically attacked (it is hell). I am more concerned about my sister with mental problems and I don't have the possibility to help her. I don't know what to do. My other covert narcicisist sister has FULL control of her. Regarding my covert narcicisist sister... I don't want to have anything to do with her NEVER AGAIN. HOW can she "use" a sister either mental problems?? Soooo evil

I suffered from severe depression I lived with it for almost 5 years. My psychiatrist said that I'm experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia. I'm having hard time talking to other person because I can't build a connection. I can't feel any emotion when I'm with other people but when I'm alone watching on my phone, my emotion is normal. When I was depressed I created a world inside my head where I can scape from our cruel world. I stayed there for a long time until I got confused on the reality of life. Now I look at the world in a different way.

A guy I went to school with passed away a couple years ago. I wasn’t close to him or his family so learning of his sudden death shocked me. Especially because his behavior at school was normal. Cliche as that sounds. Apparently, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia a couple years prior to his death so it wasn’t something I would have noticed in school. I am here educating myself because I have always wondered if he was misdiagnosed or if he suffered great trauma to develop this syndrome in his early 20s. Whatever the reason, may he Rest In Peace.

You are what you eat. You gotta keep your mind powerful and your body free from temporary gratifications and pleasure. it may not sound related but trust me it is. you will feel the difference. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice thanks. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you.

I believe I've heard somewhere that schizophrenic acts differently depending on where you're from. Most people think that the voices people hear are aggressive and dangerous, but apparently in some places the voices are helpful and kind, thus the person have no reason to seek any treatment for it. This might be linked to environmental factors or maybe something else, but it might explain some people in history claiming to know stuff and to be prophets

If you're using the DSM 5 you should probably include the part where the patient has to suffer distress or impairment to be diagnosed in the first place as that's a pretty important bit for pretty much all the conditions. They also have to rule out other disorders with psychotic features, and general functioning should be markedly lower after onset.
@new-knowledge8040
@new-knowledge8040 7 лет назад
The DSM 5 is a blast. Many drug patents have run out. So the drug companies modify their drug ever so slightly, all such that a new patent could now be filed. But to get away with this and thus keep the truth of it hidden, a new mental illness had to be invented such that this "NEW DRUG" could be the recommended drug for this "NEW ILLNESS". These "NEW ILLNESSES" are then added to the DSM upon each creation of a new edition.

Psychiatry treat as mental illness whay religions condemsn as ''sins''. Strange correlation. But, psychiatry never ever treated religious delusions (spirit, soul, gods, demons, angels, etc) as mental illnesses.... Strange huh? 'Things' that are intangible and obviously a delusion, are trated as something real, and nobody bats an eye. Religion have Big power, hacking the amygdala of billions of weaks, and same time empowering them in a mental trick that is being the CANCER FOR THIS WORLD, thus, generating all those mental illnesses ''that have not apparent cause''....C'mon. It's obvious what causes the illnesses. Believers feel they are ''healthy'' because their delusion is socially accepted. But many people live in the real world, and those are receiving the consecuences of the majority. We know how atheists are treated by those sweet caring believers. I know you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Watched this because my childhoood best friend who I went to highschool with and lived on the same block with , who was seemingly a normal person with no mental problems and was like that for many years until one day when he was in his early 20s he just changed almost over night he didn't know who he was and who we were and he was hallucinating and could not even live without a supervisor , I was so hurt and confused about it , I always thought you had to have something like a head injury or be born with this to have that happen , they said his was a genetic cause source and he inherited it from someone in his family that had it , but it was so bizarre that it just suddenly set on , I cry thinking about him all the time , he is like a brother to me and now he doesn't even know who I am or even really know or connect with anything in reality from his perspective , it's really hit him hard , I would still try to see him and try so hard to just talk like we normally would if he didn't have it, I would try to tell him about all our old times and good memories just hoping maybe one day something might spark something in his mind even if was only for a second and he forgot again, I just hoped maybe there was something still in him somewhere , just mixed up in all that distortion and cluttered maze of brain signals firing and other stuff jumbled up in him that was going on.. unfortunately not long after his condition set on he had to be homed into a facility with 24 hour caretakers and it's almost 10 hours away from me and I don't have anyway to go even visit him , I still hurt for my friend and it's really tore me up over the years now since it's happened , i used to say it felt like losing a loved one from them passing but now I actually feel it's somehow even worse than that because it's like I can't shake the feeling of hoping one day it may just run its course , and he will just wake up and be back to the way he was which I'm not trying to say isn't possible because miracles and cures do and have happened to all kinds of people with all kinds of conditions even this as many cases have shown , I guess that's why i have such a hard time with it even more so now even after having been going on for over a decade later , I just hold on to the idea and pray and I pray for his family members who feel just like I do , it's been a very painful experience in my life , I've lost people too , even parents and close friends , but it's something I've had a lot more tole on me to cope with, it's like I never really feel like I can maybe grow to grieve and accept it and understand its the way it is now and accept that I can't do anything about it and have to try and let it be as it is and go on so I can live with some feeling , of closure maybe? Or maybe that's not the word or what could really even be closure in this case , I just hope he is at least, if nothing else , found some sense of his self and who he always was , where ever his soul is not just his physical self that contained it ,Matt was too big of a soul and energy to be stuck to just some brain signals moving around , he was a Free spirit and loving heart that was kind to everybody and everyone who knew him , knew that he was too , I like to think he just took spiritual journey apart from this material realm and just left his body on standby , while he travels in a peaceful getaway , I love ya man , I don't know why I felt I have to speak about it personally on here but I was drawn here from thinking of you because I'm trying to understand , I'm searching for whatever I'm supposed to get from this happening and I feel like it helps me altleast keep on keeping on I know that's what you'd want me to do , I know it'd hurt you just as much of you thought I was so down over what happened to you and sad and not trying to atleast be strong , you always were the big guy , I was the little short nerdy kid you always pushed me to get out of my sheltered reclusive ways and I'm so thankful for that , I'm glad you helped me tough it out and quit being a wuss haha I feel like that has got me through alot in my life even now , you taught me alot and I hope you know how much I looked up to you and the better person you helped me see that I was , I hope anyone going through this or knows someone that is will find some thing similar in the maze of it all, I might not understand why it has to be like this or why it had to happen to you but I can have a sense knowing no matter what Its the bond we have and the memories we share that keep me hanging in there and helping me get through it , this whole world Is kinda like what ever schizophrenia is , it's all just a scrambled up mess and I'm lost in it all too sometimes , at least I had a hiking buddy on the way , maybe we'll all meet up again by a bonfire out there in great beyond just like old times and we can catch up on it all , without the noise and craziness from the world going on around us Till then i guess ill be missing ya man kevo

Jeanno, Hi, if you're hearing voices in your head, like me, you're not crazy as others think you are. At a gathering of new converts, the apostle Peter speaks to a crowd and they hear his message in their own language or tongue. etc

Be very careful, don't get too comfortable with these drugs. I have been on them for 20 years and has ended up damaging my life greatly. I wish I got off them sooner. I have to restart my life again but left handicapped. I have a deep hate for drug companies

My entire story would go on forever but I'll give you a brief rundown. My current antipsychotic clozapine is a "major tranquilizer" that knocks me out very hard and causes me to sleep for 12+ hours a day and working, even part-time I find extremely hard. I collapse after a shower and feel sick most of the day because I have forced myself to get up. (this doesn't happen anymore because I recently am weaning off these drugs since realizing the damage they have done) They block dopamine to the brain which causes you to not think properly, everything becomes harder even though you might not realize it while being on them. It's hard to explain but one they take a hold of your brain you lose the ability to really see the big picture and are not in touch with yourself. Many people say they are doing better but there is a lot of underlying damage being caused. I have cognitive/motor memory problems now and struggle with emotions and feelings because the drugs block that and unfortunately long-term use will cause some permanent damage. They have been known to cause Brain shrinking and early Dementure, the longer you are on them the worse it gets. Clozapine is an extremely dangerous drug and is considered a last resort antipsychotic. It can only be prescribed if you have been on two others and they have not worked. I have to have blood tests every month to make sure my white blood cell doesn't drop or I could die, I also need to have eco cardiograms and ultrasounds on my heart because they weaken the heart. On average these drugs shorten your lifespan by 20+ years because of brain and heart diseases. 7 years ago I was in the hospital from internal bleeding somewhere inside my stomach. Clozapine-induced gastrointestinal hypomotility can slow your gut down to a snail pace and can cause extreme constipation that has killed people, It was a close call for me. I was recently in the hospital twice from constipation and a interaction with another drug called Latuda, 5 months later and I am still getting over it. I was taken off that very quickly once it was discovered. I also have pre-diabetes and fatty liver which is a close call because of that also very common. I was a very fit kid 20 years ago but put on weight VERY quickly once doctors put me on these drugs. I also suffer from gynecomastia which is very embarrassing for a guy. That was caused by another antipsychotic called risperidone that I was on when I was first diagnosed. The drug company Johnson & Johnson knew about this and withheld this side-effect because they didn't want to scare kids (like me at the time) from taking their toxic drugs. Many thousands have sued them for this and I am currently going through this process. I have a HATE for drug companies now, they do SO much damage and don't care its all about the money! Just google "risperidone gynecomastia" I have a lot of work to do in trying to get my life back. Its robbed me of SOOO much in life like you wouldn't believe. social anxiety skyrocketed when I was on Latuda and it has gotten better now I'm off but I am not the way I was before I started. Hopefully, you can see why I hate these drugs and most of psychiatry (that's another story). peter Breggin, he has a youtube channel tells the truth. Also, David Healy has good information. Many people like me are trying to spread the truth, but are being stomped on by drug companies and most of psychiatry, since psychiatrists get educated by the drug companies. It's really really sad and I am frustrated beyond belief!

I know someone with schizophrenia, and I fee for him. It's been incredibly heartbreaking as of late because he truly hears me saying, "You're gay" and "I'm going to make you gay." I've never said anything like that. Sometimes he looks at me says my name and says, "I'm not gay" or "You're not going to make me gay." Last week, he said, "Let's make peace, please. Don't make me go out with him." It makes me cry. I turn to these videos to help me understand :(

You are what you eat. You gotta keep your mind powerful and your body free from temporary gratifications and pleasure. it may not sound related but trust me it is. you will feel the difference. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice thanks. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you.

heyo. i`m 14, and just recently got out of a psychiatric hospital.( 4 months.....) i got diagnosed with severe generalized anxiety, leading to dissociation. that, plus my older diagnosis, i was told at 13 i had a ``schizoid personnality``. at first, they thought i was schizophrenic, but later found more sense in other diagnoses. the difference ive noted between schizophrenia and what i have , is the during of the illness. schizophrenia seems like a way more present illness than ive experienced with my diagnosis. i only get attacks, of a few weeks, or months, while the other seems constant. im undergoing therapy, and Learning more about what i have. thats just my own experience, that i wanted to share. it might help, you never know!

My best friend I had from Jr high lost her dad to schizophrenia back in 2009, the summer after we graduated high school. We were on a road trip and she got a call that her dad had been missing. His body was found a few months later by some hunters in the woods. I know it's not all genetic, and she knew that too, but I remember vividly how scared she was that she was going to have it as well. Very, very sad.

I am currently reading a book by the Dalai Lama. He made a point to me that was so profound and relevant to me. I feel no compassion, kindness, or sympathy to other humans. Now I can see why others are so hostile towards me. I need to break this habit of selfishness. This because I lack self importance and self esteem. I deliberately avoid people and wish to be alone. I live a very sheltered and hermetic life.

I have schizophrenia, I’ve had it ever since I was 6 years old. and when I was 6 years old that’s when all the trauma and things had been going down hill since than and still are, but the thing that got me to have this, well I think, is because when I was younger I was scared of the dark, a lot of people have that, I always had to have a night light in my room, or something playing in the back round, or even someone had to sleep with me, I always had this feeling of someone watching me or when I look in the mirror I see something that I know is not alive, like a monster or something, or maybe even outside my bed room windows when I looked out, I’ve had this since I was 3 or so, but I was really young. I even remembered it, but I remember sleeping with my mom a lot and this is when she got divorced and we all got really depressed from my dad leaving etc long story short, but my mom always loved to watch murder shows and cases, and she would play that when I go in with her to go to bed etc, and I would some nights not sleep because I would hear the stories and be scared that the things the tv said would actually happen to all of us one day. so idk that’s a small thing that made this mental illness a little more scary, because I was little hearing these traumatizing stories so yeah. but I always had these feelings and this video made me understand it more, so thanks you, and don’t give up to the people who have it!

I think the cause of schizophrenia could be atypical environmental influences (abuse, abandonment) from childhood causing abnormal neurotransmitter functions and neuron formation. These things happening over years in a person who is already genetically susceptible (maybe due to a genetic cause of neurotransmitter and neuron function imbalance) And then something triggers an acute change

I find some symptoms can actually just be results of abuse.. it's case by case but beware not to diagnose someone as mentally ill just because you don't know what's happening in their lives.. there's usually more than meets the eye... And maybe they tried to reach out at some point and express their emotions but have been invalidated or not believed and therefore refrain from communicating those feelings again.

Great video! I do have one bone to pick, though. As far as I know, the first Negative Symptom you mentioned is more accurately described as "Blunted Affect" in Schizophrenia, rather than "Flattened". Flattened is more suggestive of depressive disorders, whilst Blunted describes a loss of the high and low extremes of emotion, leaving a somewhat ambivalent or apathetic affect.

if its just starting to develop you have time. But the symptoms will get worse as time goes on. You need medication to counter the symptoms. But if there is nothing wrong then it will be fine. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia 5 years ago and my family still dont fully believe it. Ive been hospitalized and everything but they still dont fully trust it. The reason is because its only my own experience and its not seen by anyone else they just have to believe you.

zforged I know how that feels. I had got a large random sum of paranoia just the other day. I.E a few weeks ago. Some personal things have been happening and it’s made it worse. Even telling my family about it, they tell me that I’m making it up for attention. Which is very upsetting. As a person whom most likely has depression, and one who’s had suicidal tendencies, it’s very scary to be denied. You start to feel alone and have no one to turn to but yourself. Even then scared of doing so... I understand completely. Even now my family still doubts me.

I’ve been dealing with the same delusion for 3 years now. That I was telepathically talking to my soulmate and he could look through my eyes and talk to me with our minds. I lost the opportunity to a good living space because of it. Now I’m trying to find my way. I just got the confidence to tell a therapist what I have been going through. There have been times I’ve been suicidal but now I hope to move forward. Of course there are days where I want to give up but hopefully I won’t.
