HomeKey works great with this. I can use this with my Apple Watch or iPhone to unlock the door. This is one of two HomeKey compatible locks. The other is by Aqara. That one is a very heavy duty lock with multiple bolts, not just one, so it can’t easily replace an existing lock.
The Aqara isn’t for the US home market, so here, the Schlage, so far, is the only game in town. I wish a manufacturer made simple indoor smart locks so I could use them for closets and bedrooms.
@@ReyG_HKSH While there aren’t a whole lot of door locks for indoors, I did pick up a fingerprint lock for my den door. It works rather well. I don’t remember the name of it, but there are several types you can find on Amazon.
I tried to give you the url of a site that has it in stock, but my comment keeps getting deleted. Go to build (I’m leaving out the rest of the url) and it’s in stock for delivery by October 11.
Having the Schlage sense with a Apple TV is a game changer since I have access to it from anywhere. I also have the ability to set an automation for when I arrive to unlock and to lock when I leave. I assume the same with this. I also would tell Siri on my watch to unlock the door before walking in as well.
Hey Rey. Its good to see you back with another HomeKit product. Good job explaining how it works. I've been wanting this door lock but its always out of stock in my area. Keep the videos coming!
Great video but BTW you don’t have to open your wallet to open your door. It works with NFC. Just hold your phone very close tot he keypad and it will open (and if you don’t want to authenticate turn on express mode in the wallet)
Thanks for this. I closed on my newly built home and I have this locker on my front door. All this time I wished I had one of these programmable locks. It turned out that I do have it. Thanks builder for not telling me. I will open it tomorrow to get the program code. I cannot wait. Every aspect of my home is phone controllable including the fridge and oven.
great over all video from start to finish very detailed, even with the odd focus issues. The auto lock functionality is something that I am excited about, as well as remote management of the lock.
Keep an eye out, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did another restock for the holidays since they are leaving a bunch of money on the table if they don’t. Good luck 👍

Great to see new HomeKit content from you and it’s amazing as always! This really does seem like the cream of the crop when it comes to smart locks and Homekit. it’s really unfortunate that they are having such difficulties keeping up with demand. what’s your take on why more manufacturers have not adopted Home Key yet?
Hey Dustin, thanks for dropping by! HomeKit will always be a core focus of this channel 😊 Not really sure why manufacturers haven’t adopted HomeKey widely. Chip shortage? Excess inventory of existing products? Inflation? Schlage increased the price on these and can’t keep them on the “shelves.” I expect more smart lock manufacturers to adopt HomeKey eventually, but the pace will be slow in the current economic climate. One thing I’m sure of is I likely won’t purchase another smart lock without it.
@@ReyG_HKSH I definitely think a chip shortage is getting in the way of a lot of progress with Thread Devices in general, and Home Key locks specifically.
You could have used your Apple Watch to easily unlock the door with your old lock. Simply raise your wrist and tell Siri to "unlock the front door". Granted it takes longer for Siri to process your request but in about 5 seconds, the door will be unlocked. I give the command as I'm walking up to the door and by the time I get there, the door is unlocked. But like you, I couldn't pass up the HomeKey addition. I moved the old lock to my back door which didn't have a smart lock. Good video by the way.
If only raise to speak worked as advertised. I’ve had it not hear me the first time or I needed to repeat the gesture. More frustrating than useful in my experience. HomeKey has been 10x better in my experience. Thanks for watching! 🙏
@@ReyG_HKSH Oh you’re absolutely right, I forgot about the wake issue. What I unconsciously did to make the wake issue more tolerable is I did the double (or triple) twist-of-the-wrist to get the watch’s attention. Like you said the HomeKey version is far superior.
Why hasn’t anyone addressed multiple Apple Watch/iPhone users in the same household? I can’t seem to get my partners watch/iPhone to open the lock. It only lets mine.
I haven’t had issues with HomeKit giving access to locks with anyone in my household. Could possibly be your setup. It’s a pain, but have you tried wiping the Home clean and trying to set up from scratch?
Great video. I was going to buy the Encode Plus but ended up getting a Sense instead which was on clearance and $125 cheaper. Why? Because I have an older Apple Watch that’s not compatible (no plans to upgrade it), plus I just use Siri when I get close to open the lock. The main reasons I went to smart locks were keypad access and automations, especially auto locking, so the Apple Key is a bit overkill for me. I also already have a Sense on my other door so no learning curve or muscle memory issues. I used the $125 savings to buy the matching locket instead of the bland hand I previously had on the door.
I've been wanting to buy these locks for about a year now. Schlage said they'd be available in the spring... WRONG. I finally gave up on them and ordered an Ultraloq.
The link should be in the description. It’s the video I did for the Friday lock, in short, you should mark out the area where material needs to be removed and use chisels (and patience) to achieve the desired opening and depth. Thanks for watching! 🙏
I keep trying to comment on where this is in stock, but my comment keeps getting deleted. Go to build (leaving out the rest of the url) where you can find it in stock with delivery by Oct. 11.
I just started looking and didn’t know this product was so new. Still not available. Definitely the one I want though. I’ll wait and hope for more supply
@@AshBigs If you specifically want Apple Home Key functionality then this is a great choice. Keep your eyes peeled on Home Depot and Lowe’s websites for availability.
Great overview. Availability in Canada too is low to inexistent but will get it once back in stock. As someone who cannot grip/turn keys and an Apple fan, it's worth it for me. Even the noise I see as benefit: you're home alone, lost in reading, phone somewhere in the house, you hear the lock unlocking. Only worry I have is would any locksmith be able to install this for me or must they be approved by Schlage?
Im currently watching the video but there's one thing I haven't seen talked about anywhere, can Android also wirelessly unlocked the lock similarly to how Apple does?
I can’t seem to get a home key on my apple watch. Anyone else having that issue? So I really can’t unlock it with the apple watch. I wonder if it needs to be a specific series. My apple watch is a series 3 Oh by the way thanks for the video.
Can you setup Automation rules in Homekit with this lock? For example, if I wanted the foyer light to automatically turn on when a certain code is used to unlock the door, but only between the hours of 6pm-11pm or something like that. Is that do-able?
What about this model compared to the one you’re reviewing? I am confused between the two! Plz help eufy Security Video Smart Lock S330, 3-in-1 Camera+Doorbell+Fingerprint Keyless Entry Door Lock,BHMA, WiFi Door Lock,App Remote Control,2K
Hey, thanks for dropping by! I have zero experience with that particular Eufy lock. BUT, if you are an Apple HomeKit user then the Eufy does not work with HomeKit. It lacks the HomeKey functionality that the Schlage offers, which is the key feature that people purchase the Schlage. Hope that helps.
Great video! But let’s say I have 3 doors. Should I buy 3, put one on my back door, put one on my garage door too? If I do that, how do I get the key configured the same for all 3? I would just want my locks to all be smart and on the same settings if possible.
Does this lock support Matter? I spoke to Schlage tech support a couple weeks ago and they said NO, but I’m not confidant of that answer. The guy I spoke to didn’t know what Matter is (huh?) and had to put me on hold for a while while he checked with someone.
From what little technical detail I know it seemed that Thread required Matter. Thanks for setting me straight. Your video was great. It provides the information that I need before purchasing a product, but can't get without actually using it.
TFS Does each family member user need to set up the same way if they use their phone to unlock? and do you need a hub in your home? I can't get husband and kids to set up like I did mine. only mine opened the lock with phone
Great video easy to understand. Can you make a video of how to add family members so they can use their iPhone or Apple Watch to lock or unlock the Schlage encode plus? Thanks again
Enjoyed the video. Great walk through. Can you please turn off autofocus. Half the content was focusing on things not relevant to what you were describing, like your forearm.
@@ReyG_HKSH Thanks! Everything I own that’s thread enabled has zero issues with connectivity. For instance if I reset the internet or the power goes out. It’s just really nice that their self healing once the power restores.
With the Sense were you able to view accurate access logs or issues entry codes from another state or country? Loved the biometric feature of my current Lockly but the app does not update when youre not within range of the lock with defeats the purpose of remote access features.
So is there a way to set it so it Auto Unlock’s as you pull up to your home? Either a setting or maybe a shortcut or something? I’ve used a Wyze lock for years and the Auto Unlock feature is a deal breaker for me, if I can’t make a smart lock unlock as I’m pulling into my driveway or unlocking my property gate or something along those lines it’s just not smart enough for me. I usually have my arms full of things when I come home and just being able to open the door and go inside is a must. I don’t want to have to tap my phone or watch to something and wait for it to unlock, my current lock uses the geofencing or Bluetooth, it unlocks as I pull in so I just open the door and go inside, that’s how it should be. I’m in the eco system so HomeKit is my smart home platform and I’d love to have a HomeKit compatible lock but it must have the Auto Unlock that can unlock my door as I’m pulling in, if Wyze can do it on their $100 lock these $300 locks should for sure have it.
The only reason to consider this and other Home Key compatible locks is simply Home Key. If, as you state, have no desire to use your iPhone or Apple Watch to tap to unlock, then there is zero reason for you to consider this lock. I suggest sticking with what’s already working for you and save your money for smart home devices that perform within your existing smart home workflow.
There’s just no way I’m spending $300 to replace a $200 dollar lock just to use my smartphone with it. That’s a sunk-cost of $500. You’ll get $100 back selling your old lock at best. Nah. Get this if you don’t have one yet, but otherwise don’t bother.
If you own an Apple Watch it’s better to just leave Express Mode Off and use your Apple Watch as it doesn’t require authentication as long as you’re wearing it. If u drop it or lose it, it automatically requires the passcode. That makes it safer than enabling that option on the lock and risk losing the phone and granting access to the lock.
@@ReyG_HKSH I’m looking for a new smart lock with home key. What is your best recommendation after all the testing you’ve done? Level? Schlage plus? Aqara? Something else?Appreciate your vids!
