Dudes, it’s confusing, but basically there’s the continent of Australia and the country of Australia and they are different. The country’s landmass does not comprise of the entire continent, making it subcontinental and therefore an island. But the continent is not an island bc it’s a continent. And Oceania is a whole other type of continent that includes Australia also.

@@hostile_prof I never disagreed with you on whether or not Australia is a continent or not i was simply saying that Tasmania is not part of the continent of Oceania, it is part of the country of Australia. However Australia is not technically defined as an island anyway so tubbo is still wrong and so are you.

Oceania really isn't a continent it's a region, you are really bending the definition of a continent if you include them. The Australian plate doesn't include any of the island nations further east than New Zealand, pretty much everything closer belongs to Australia or New Zealand. Australia and New Zealand are a part of the Contient of Australia, Fiji is not.

Well actually the continent of Oceania is separate from the continent of australia. They both exist, just differently. But the continent Australia includes land masses that aren’t apart of the country australia’s landmass, meaning the country Australia is subcontinental and therefore is considered an island. But the continent Australia is not considered an island because it’s a continent.

A continent is any of the world's main continuous expanses of land, there is no reason both of these aren't completely correct statements. some dude just decide that it cant be both but there is no real underlying reason except cause someone said so. so nah Australia is an island as by the definition of an island "a piece of land surrounded by water" Australia definitely checks that box

Greenland is the largest island that is not a continent. There is some ambiguity to the question, but considering the general understanding that all greater land masses are reckoned as continents, it is sufficiently straight-forward.

In Australia we learn Australia is an island. I agree, it's a single country, not connected to any other land masses or continents
