I noticed that in most of the bull commercials people run away from the charging bull. Not Mr. Rufus Thomas. He just stepped to the side and let the bull do his thing.
I've watched this about fifty times already since I came across it! Love the way he looks to the side and walks up the steps when the bull comes thru the door.
This commercial was produced by Leo Burnett Advertising. The Leo Burnett Co. TV producer for this spot was Wally Smith. There were many Schlitz Malt Liquor spots produced in the '70;s. Victor Haboush of Haboush Production, L.A., was the studio director for many of them if not all.
Gotta give it to Rufus as funny as this may seem Rufus/Rudy Ray Moore open up many doors for the blacks who think they're the shit today...Tip your freakin hat off to Rufus/Rudy, who made it happen for blacks to express themselves, somebody gotta do it, they did it!
This commercial would come on randomly but definitely during late nights when Soul train, wrestling and late nite movies would air....usually a random AD Council psa would follow or come before it LOL
They had the right slogan "watch out for the bull" because that was some absolute bullshit. I can't believe that niggaz used to actually drink that $hi+. Those commercials were directly targeting the hood.
