I had a very painful thoracic spine due to scoliosis, schmoral’s nodes, bone spurs, endplate sclerosis, and facet joint arthritis and some wedge shaped vertebrae. I had a radio frequency ablation to my T9-12 and it did relieve the constant deep pain in my mid back but I still get pain if I sit or stand too long. I also have very tight musculature in my entire upper and mid back which is very painful and hard to live with. I was raised on a dairy farm and was the oldest of 6 kids and did a lot of heavy work when I was a child plus I was in gymnastics for 8 years and then worked as a RN for 20 years and now I can barely function from the constant pain that I have. I also have Fibromyalgia which I believe started because of all the spine pain I had. I also have inflammatory and osteoarthritis and I’m only 48 years old. A lifetime of hard physical labor definitely took its toll on my body. To think that they want to raise the age of retirement to 70 is a real slap in the face to people who work in physically demanding jobs.
Have you tried braces for the area of pain/schmorl's node? Limit range of motion help the body to heal microfractures. Wearing braces may not be comfortable but worth a try.
Had pain since age 16, 23 now and the pain gets worse and worse. I can run around jump cart wheel, but if i sit or stand for too long the pain begins. Inversion table helps. But of the few doctors ive seen and i have good health insurance, they all say theres nothing that can be done. I find it hard to believe seeing as ive seen people with worse back problems go through extreme surgery and come out magnificently better. No one believes i have back problems and it pisses me off. I would gladly trade this pain for pain somewhere else cuz it can be agonizing. all i know is that if im suffering now, what will it be like in 20 years
I have had a very similar history with multiple doctors over the years, so my dearest sympathies. Although medical history along with correlating scans should considered with the foremost importance, that is rarely the case. Age of the patient is commonly used to downplay the the diagnosis and ignore the prognosis. I am similar in age and my conditions have both worsened and spread. ...A decade later and I hear the same ol song from these dimwitted, money grubbing so called doctors. Do your own research, save your money and find specialist that works on nothing else. Wishing you the very best of luck and a Merry Christmas! -Kayla
I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease at 15, 24 now I have trouble with lower back a lot of the time and spinal discs and nerves. I’m told absolutely no inversion tables! no running or gymnastics, as they do more damage than good, you should try take a step back from those things see does it make a difference
My son was just diagnosed with SN today. For L9 to L13. Poor kiddo. He had intense pain for 10 days and it took an ER doc to finally tell us that my kid isn't just experiencing "video game" back or something equally moronic. Thanks for the informative video!
Schmorls Nodes CAN cause pain ("it causes severe muscular back pain" my dr told me this)...I saw a rheumatologist who diagnosed me with having schmorls nodes...he said that It started my pain which developed into fibromyalgia...he also said that he sees it more in men and somewhere in their 40's and 50's...much older than me cause I'm 27...DEREK, please go to a different dr or get referred to a specialist...Trust me you will not regret it...Good Luck!!
Do schmorls nodes dissappear after few months or years of proper exercise and care ? I'm not asking about the pain dissappearing, I am asking about the hole in the vertebra that the node leaves.
I got SN in 11th Grade, I’m now 25 and doing back squats still make it act up bad, but I need to workout still. Is there some type of long term treatment?
I see schmorl's node on most of our patients, with vast majority of them without symptom. I can prove that by seeing numbernous schmorl's node (with some of them very large) incidentally on patient imaging studies intented for other purpose. E.g. CT study of the abdomen and pevlis for renal calculus or post abdominal surgery patient or pneumonia. For those patient, there is no complain of back pain at the time of study.
my MRI shows mild arthritis, and shmorals nodes.. its weird, severe pain every day, later on in the day the pain goes away... so this is a frracture in my spine?? i dont understand.
