Heute möchte ich euch einen kleinen Trick verraten, wie man schnell sein Englisch verbessern und seinen Wortschatz erweitern kann. Oft braucht es gar nicht viel Aufwand, um einen Fortschritt zu erzielen.

DontTrustTheRabbit a pall is a shroud if cloth dust smoke. it can also describe a persons mood dark hidden withdrawn from public display. like when presented w a situation you don't want to perceive. you block it out w shroud of the mind. hence appalling. shocked drawn back.👍

Ich habe aus Liebe zur Sprache nun auch den Englisch - Leistungskurs gewählt (bin Klasse 11) und bin bis jetzt mehr als zufrieden. One caution for the English learners here, Do -not- subsitute "depressed" for "sad". A problem with the English language is that people always go for extreme adjectives when a simpler one is more appropriate. Depression is a clinical state of unwellness. Sadness is the temporary slumps one experience during life. The trick with sad is that many of the adjectives are context dependent. I won't say when to use them, but closest in meaning to sad: downtrodden, down, down in the dumps, blue, dejected, crestfallen, gloomy, glum, forlorn (very literary).

I don't know how many other people do it this way but some of these words are tiers of the same word instead of synonyms. like scared is the base tier. and it progresses from there to terrified. good is the base and great is a step up and amazing is the top. that's how the vernacular is where I'm from.

The levels/tiers are more like suggestions, for some a spider might be scary but other terrifying, other it might be cute and cuddly.

Trixi, you hit a home run again. What an intriguing approach! I like to learn (German) adjectives in clusters, rather than one at a time. I like hearing the most general or basic term, like traurig, for example, along with a handful of synonyms - maybe enttäuscht, verärgert, verwüstet, trostlos, deprimiert - and a little backstory for each, in order to get a feel for the nuances each one adds to the basic term, sad. Of course, nothing beats real life practice. But this is an excellent tip you've given, in my opinion, to help folks expand their vocabulary. I can say from experience that those folks I know who have learned English to a superior degree are the ones who aren't afraid to throw out newly learned words. Even when they mistakenly use one in a completely incorrect (and often delightfully amusing) way, or perhaps simply mispronounce it beyond recognition, I always give 'em props for trying... plus some tips and a few zingers for handy future use. ;-) And I get a lesson out of their little flubs as well. Understanding what they said vs what they meant to say can lead to some truly eye opening insight into their native tongue, which helps me on the flip side! Great video Trixie! But I have to say that I've never heard "striking" used as a synonym for "important". Rather, "striking" refers to either a strong impression of someone --"Her face was strikingly gorgeous."--or a definitive contrast between two things "The twins had a striking personality difference."

Actually, you can say that someone is "delicious" and still not want to eat them! 😁 "I'm so attracted to that girl! She's delicious!" Or..."That baby is so cute! I just want to eat him...delicious!" Of course, don't say that while getting out the ketchup and mayonnaise! 😂

John Lost although calling them "tasty" would be more common, I suspect. As in, "This food is quite tasty." and "Trixi is quite tasty..." the food/person/tasty thing is something that happens in quite a few language. and it's got about the same politeness factor in all of them. :-)

You could, but that kind of usage for the word 'delcious' implies a great physical interest in the subject which can vary in meaning based on who or what the subject is. Saying a girl is 'delicious' (or 'babe-a-licious', which, yes, I have heard people use in this day and age) is like saying, "Wow - I really want to take that chick into my bedroom and do stuff with her!" It's really overtly sexual, and not to be used in a cutsie way. Saying a baby is 'delicious' or 'scrumptious' etc. is fine - it has no subtext or alternative meaning (unless, tapping into America's highly sophisticated and twisted sense of humor, you use it in a joking way to imply that you would, in fact, like to take that baby into your bedroom).

It is the baby's grandmother, aunts or women friends of the mother saying the baby is delicious and could eat it up. There is no American, highly sophisticated and twisted, sense of humor used in a joking way that implies that you would like to take that baby into your bedroom that is legal. In fact, mentioning that implied desire in the presence of a concerned person will have you and the child investigated immediately.

Admirable is actually one of those words that changes in pronunciation between the shorter word and the longer word with suffix. Unlike with mose cases of replacing the "e" on the end of a word with an "able", the pronunciation of the vowel preceeding the "e" changes to what it might be if there was no "e" on the end. It goes from an "I" pronunciation, to somwhere between an "i" and nearly silent (I think there is a slight accent variation that means it varies from person to person (mainly on location and class grounds)). English pronunciation is infamously full of such intricacies.

That is the pronunciation I was trying to get at. There is not much "I", but there is slightly more than none.

We say the middle syllable like the incense Myrrh, or phonetically, muhr. The most common overcorrection is to use the long "e" sound (Ad-meer-able) in place of the long "I" sound that is in the root "admire". The other common error is to put the accent on the second syllable instead of the first.

Ich glaube, Videos und Filme in der Fremdsprache zu schauen hilft enorm. Ich finde es toll, dass du (vermehrt) auch Videos machst, in denen es um die englische Sprache geht. :) aber trotzdem finde ich die Videos über did deutsche Sprache weiterhin sehr interessant 😁. 😺🐇 Und wenn ich dabei mein Englisch verbessern kann, ist das grade gut. :) Mich interessieren einfach Sprachen an sich sehr :). I guess, watching videos and movies in the forgein language helps a lot. I like, that you do more videos about the English language. But still I think, the videos about the German language (which is my mother tongue) are very remarkable. I just like languages. And each language has its own little special secrets 😁🐇.

Ich finde das 1. leichter formuliert aber beim 2. war ich aufmerksamer gewesen, da es sich viel besser anhörte, wie du schon sagtest - flüssiger. Es hört sich bei dir so einfach an. ^^ Ich hänge mit dieser Sprache noch ziemlich hinterher und finde das ich mich einfach mal hinsetzen müsste diese Sprach zu mögen. ^^ Finde Englisch persönlich sehr gut und recht verständlich, außer das Engländer immer so nuscheln. ^^ :'D ;-) Great video! tolles Video, sher hilfreich! Und ja, der zweite Text war wirklich viel besser. Hört sich einfach besser an. Du sprichst sehr schön Englisch! Ich motiviere mich dazu Englisch zu lernen weil ich die Sprache unglaublich schön finde und auch sehr gerne mal in die USA will und dort studieren möchte. I have same examples either to bring more quality into the sentences. I got them from a page but I dunno the name of the page anymore. I just had written that down to learn that before I went to America for a couple of months. Word - Synonyms - Context if - whether - ..., ob... Hallo Trixi Das Ersetzten von Adjektiven finde ich nur in beschränktem Mass eine gute Idee, da diese zum Teil spezielle Bedeutungen haben oder gar unpassend sein können. So ist z.B.: sad - traurig nicht gleich heartbreaking - herzzerreissend. Man denke doch nur an verschiedene Filmende. Das Nutzen eines solchen "Adjektiv-Baukastens", nur um den Text abwechslungsreicher oder gar intelligenter erscheinen zu lassen, ist nur sehr vorsichtig zu empfehlen. Gruss Thomas

Another great video, thank you. My vocabulary of German adjectives is also very limited, but I don't experiment very much because it's more important to speak German that is understood. If you say I speak German like a child, I'd think that was a compliment.

It's way more helpful for learning German, when you speak in German. You should do this more often (speaking German that is). Perhaps for when you have smaller topics, or when you feel like trying something a bit off the usual format. Anyways, likeable videos Trixie :)

These might seem like small grammatical things, but knowing the difference of when to use the words "good and "well" and "were" and "was" in English can actually be pretty important. If someone asks, "How are you?" Or "How'd it'd go?" Many people will respond, "I'm good," or, "It was good." I understand if non-native English speakers make this mistake, but the proper way to say those two sentences are, "I'm well," or, "It went well". Many native English speakers don't even notice the difference between the usage of good and well, but knowing the difference between the two and when to use them can make a person sound much more proper and professional. This is especially true if someone needs to write or speak in English at their work, school, or other professional setting. Also, Americans especially have the habit of confusing the words was and were. I won't explain the difference, but knowing the difference, just like knowing the difference between good and well, would make someone sounds much more proper and professional. I just thought I'd share that with everyone ^^

Sissi die Auswanderin I did mean, "How did it go?" Where I live in the United States, everyone speaks that question as, "How'd it go?" Although, Americans do tend to speak grammatically incorrect much of the time so maybe that's wrong XD. I think the proper way to write and say that question is, "How did it go?" I'm just letting you know, Americans LOVE to use contractions when they speak. Sorry if I caused any confusion XD P.S I don't know why I said, "How'd it'd go?" No one says that XD. People either ask, "How did it go?" Or, "How'd it go?" I shouldn't be writing when I'm tired XD

Du hast hier einen sehr guten Tipp gegeben: Einfach mal eine Stunde intensiv mit simplen Themen hinsetzen bringt eine Menge! Aber das Problem ist ja immer dasselbe: Hinsetzen ist anstrengend. ;)
