Some people just don't deserve to be behind the wheel of a vehicle. Also, proof that education and training does no good when the person being educated is inherently stupid.
I got pulled over for that once, I told the officer I was in front of the bus at a stop light and it was behind me when it turned the flashers on. I also told him I used to drive a school bus and know the rules. He said from his perspective it looked like I had passed the bus but he understood I could be right. He ran my license seeing and did not give me a ticket.
It may differ depending on your state - so check your state's specific laws. In my state it is required to stop in both directions, unless there is an unpaved median or barrier between the opposing sides. However, if in doubt, its usually safer to stop (not slam on the brakes, come to a gradual stop so drivers behind you can slow too) then not. And even if you're not required to stop in a particular situation, anytime you see a school bus stopped, SLOW DOWN, and keep close attention, because kids especially younger ones may well dart out where they shouldn't without looking. Be prepared to stop in a hurry if needed.
People just don't pay attention. We used to have to cross a fairly busy road to get to our school...we would just punch cars that didn't slow down for us to cross! Those were the days!!
In Ontario Canada on a 4 lane road / highway both directions have to stop for school bus ambulance, police, and firetruck.. that includes tow trucks & highway emergency vehicles for lane closures...
In the state of Florida, if a school bus is stopped on a multi-lane road you have to stop unless there is a median separating the opposing lanes of travel. (Fl statute 316.172 subsection 2 "The driver of a vehicle upon a divided highway with an unpaved space of at least 5 feet, a raised median, or a physical barrier is not required to stop when traveling in the opposite direction of a school bus which is stopped in accordance with the provisions of this section.")
In Arizona it is a civil offence. 18 years driving a school bus and have not heard of anybody getting nailed for this. I get at least 15-20 a day go through my sign. The funny thing is if I pull over and put my hazards on, they will all stop.
On a four lane highway, all lanes must stop if there is no median or raised barrier in many states. I think we need to make all lanes stop regardless. If everyone must stop, then there's no question of when to stop, everyone knows the law in every state, and kids are safer.
so he said 4 lane road opposite traffic does not have to stop but watched one of these videos a few days ago and cop said on multiple lane roads every one has to stop unless road has dividers in middle of the direction traffic is going ?? see even law enforcement don't know the laws around a bus so how are the stupid drivers who are given a drivers license from stupid government officials dont even kniw the laws ??
The only justification for that jeep to be doing that is if his brakes failed, which judging by the video seems to not be the case unfortunately. I wish America was more like Europe but unfortunately politicians love tolls and tickets!
People pass school busses because they are tired of dealing with busses that stop every two houses to pick up kids. Also, bus drivers are the rudest and most arrogant drivers out there. They don't care if you are the only car with no one behind you. They flip on their lights and make you wait fifteen minutes while the little darlings find their seats.
So was the commenter goldwinger5434 driving that Jeep? He/she seems to think illegal and dangerous driving is ok because following the law is inconvenient.
@@coryburris8211 no telling if the OP was driving the jeep or not the OP is just making up excuses for bad drivers which nothing excuses illegally passing a stopped school bus with it's red lights on.
None of that is a reason to not stop for a bus. I'm so sorry that the kids don't live further apart and that you didn't leave early enough, but the time you'll save by passing a stopped bus isn't worth a kid's life.
