Students from across the state attend the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired not just to earn a diploma. Here they learn to adapt to their disability, and how to thrive independently both in and out of school.

I knew people who went to the Missouri School for the Blind during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. What year did you graduate? I graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in 1990. We used compete in the sports tournaments back in the day.

Been officially in. Or blind is difficult, however, the attitude from people and the system who is there to support you can make it even more difficult. I know from experience!

Jesus Torres Were you given low expectations too?? If so share your story...I’ve had this theory for a while that my elementary/middle school had lower expectations for us...until the new principal showed up in 2014-2015 (the year I graduated) and I’m curious to know if other people went through the same....

Yeah I do think the teacher is right, many people don't understand how blind people do things like cooking. They probably don't understand how Visually Impaired people cook either.

Hi My name is Jacqueline and I find it very frustrating when cited people do not want to work with the visually impaired. I have an eye disease called Retinopathy Of Prematurity and I have Uveitis. I thought this video was awesome and I really do think that people should have more gratitude for the fact that I can still see.

I’m legally blind I’m not even able or allowed to have a driver‘s license. I did one semester of community college and could not keep up with the reading material even with the accommodations by the time students would be on chapter 10 or 12 in a textbook I would still be on chapter 2 or three. This discouraged me and I dropped out . So how the hell do you navigate that and don’t tell me audiobooks because literally sitting down and listening to audiobooks takes even longer than reading. So what’s the solution can u give me ideas ? I want to go back to school but I can’t keep up with material , I want to get a good job make my family proud but all I am is a stress and burden on my family 🤦‍♂️

Does anyone know what type of diplomas the give out to the blind? We believe the visually impaired deserve certificates and diplomas they can read and understand. Made on thin wood, using a textured seal and Braille they can read, understand and be proud of.

A lot of blind people are okay with being blind. They just want acceptance and appropriate accommodations from society.
