I love that you teach the children how to take care of their abrasions, etc. My only issue is the clean 4x4's next to an uncovered toilet. Every time the toilet is flushed whatever is in there becomes airborne and contaminates all nearby objects. You might want to re-think that setup.
I am starting as a new graduate RN school Nurse! I was a support staff before working as a instructional assistant, PE assistant, Library Aid, office helper, and I quit to finish school in nursing. The reason I got hired as a new graduate it was because I had an good experience working in school with kids with special needs. Usually in my state they required 6 month of acute care. They realized that even with experience in hospital school nursing is a completely different gig. So the training is the same time as far as new grads or nurses with acute care experience. Your video is going to help me a lot on how to set up my office!❤️🥰
Thank you so much for this video!! Please make more school nursing - need to know videos (diastat info, carb count and insulin, tips on getting out a splinter etc etc ) 👍🏽. I have a text book on school nursing but would be great to see from experienced nurse ☺️
I love this! I am not a School Nurse, but I am the Registered Medical Assistant for my Elementary School, I am the Health onsite, going on my 2nd year and I love it! I see about 40 kids a day :)
@@gilbertandkarengonzalez2346 I guess the biggest thing they are looking for is that you enjoy working with kids This job is not as stressful and you have time to adjust Tell- I’m motivated, easy to learn, and a kind individual!
Having grown up with type 1 diabetes since I was 9 and fascination with technology was part of why I went into nursing. Although my background is as a RN // EMT-B is in emergency medicine, I realize diabetes is a public health issue at all ages. One important thing to know is that if a diabetic person is hypoglycemic, they may be totally unaware of it, and only have odd or violent behavior & confusion as their only sign prior to having a hypoglycemic grand mal seizure. This needs to be taught to people, including the student, as a means of early detection so they can get quick acting glucose. Additionally, Glucagon often can make people vomit and turkey basters work well for sucking up secretions. Last, but not least, protect the person's dignity when they get sick from hypoglycemia. I have had multiple hypoglycemic seizures over the past 3 years and know this can save lives.
I am on the process of career change right now from an ER nurse for almost 11 years to school nurse.. i just don't know why i choose school nursing but somehow it interest me... and your video is a great help for me. I admire you being organize and i think that will be the biggest challenge for me.
You are amazing! I’m a School Bus Driver for my District and I am starting off as a Sub Health assistant during my breaks. However I didn’t know what to expect and your video helped some. Can you please do one with your Health Assistant ? What you Nurses expect from your Health Assistant on a daily basis. Please and Thank you :)
Roz this is my 3rd office since being at this school, it was part of the school's remodel done 5 years ago. Love it, my older office was an ugly office.
Lucky you have one. A lot of our schools don't for the school nurse, lol, they put one school nurse's office in the bathroom, this video is unrealistic for our county
Hi Christiane, glad to meet you.Iam intrigued in your fabulous job for the welfare of school children. I finished Bsc Nursing in 1999,Masters in Sociology 2002,recent academic IELTS score 6.5 can you help in becoming school health Nurse abroad.Iam a 40year old Indian woman...padmavathi.
Hi Christine, I appreciate your video. I am opening a new school health room this year. I like all your tips and tricks. What are the supplies you keep in the bathroom caddy? How do you keep the kids from taking too much and leaving wrappers all over the place? I will have a much smaller space with no running water, so I'm thinking of one of those water cooler dispenser type things?
Honey sticks are the easiest and most convenient, kids love them too. Unfortunately, they also cost the most. So, I usually just squirt honey on a plastic spoon. Once they lick the spoon clean, they throw it away. Honey packs (like from the restaurants) work too, but a little bit messy for kids.
squirt it on a spoon, those packets are messy. Wellness Momma is a good website, my favorite pediatrician recommended it. I have forwarded the information to parents. There are tons of practical suggestions and home remedies on the easy to read website.... including cough syrup with onions, sounds yucky, but, it's effective.
Do you have any other videos? I found this to be so beneficial! I am looking to try sub nursing but I am terrified of Diabetic children as I have not worked with any before. Any training modules you suggest as I am always wanting to learn and relearn!
It's my only video, I'll try to make another one in a month or so. Don't be afraid of the students with diabetes. Don't worry too much about the hyperglycemia, only the hypoglycemia. By teaching the students and teachers to recognize the signs of the student going low and having some orange juice handy, you'll do fine. I've had several students with diabetes, you'll be an expert before you know it.
This was a great video, thank you. What type of master degree do you think would be most beneficial for school nursing; nurse educator, clinical nurse specialist, pediatric nurse practitioner, etc?
I am getting my MSN next week from ENMU (online program) it was excellent. I recommend MSN in nursing education, understanding the educational system is very helpful, especially with students who have learning disabilities that need accomodations
For your training was wondering if you keep old training from year to year for any reason that you have done with teachers. Also do you have any good resources of how to train teachers? Trying to get organized in my first year of school nursing.
Hi John, Our teachers get basic training on seizures, diabetes, asthma, food allergies... etc. APS (Albuquerque Public Schools) uses a program called Safe Schools." They also demonstrate they know how to use an epi-pen, and inhaler etc. prior to going on a field trip. Teachers are told all students need to have a pass to go to the health room, unless its an emergency (throwing up). We also let teachers know how best to communicate with me ( emails, passes).
HI John, Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. We use a Safe Schools online training program for most training. We give print outs and orient staff on basics like sending students with a pass
I am interested in being a school nurse. This video is very interesting. Are there only one nurse and a health assistant in your office? What if you are sick or have an appointment? That T-shirt trick is ingenious also.
Our school district does not have nurse substitutes, a buddy nurse from the school nearby covers essential medications and procedures (ie. insulin) It's a budget concern in many schools
Hello. I'm a newly hired school nurse and I would be preparing for the physical exam of my college students. can you share with me some physical examination forms or procedures? Thank you for your help
Hello, I’m considering a switch from bedside to school nursing because of the hours and being away from family days at a time. I am a new nurse, 22 y.o., and was curious with anyone’s thoughts? Is school nursing sustainable for a single person? Thank you!
Hi nurse Amie what happen if you give a friend a col they say to come to nursed freiend Becca is they have the help they need got the lunchbox my inhaiker needs to be reclaimed for the gym course I’m taking at the school. Thank you so much nurse you are a very kind woman I alppreciate it. Coos
@@christinemcfall6115 Can I ask if the retirement is your plan or by the school district? I googled but cannot find the exact age of the retirement for teachers and nurses.
I had a bleeding leg and the nurse was too busy writing up my name and asking me where my classroom is at the moment. Mind you I was holding my hand so that Type B would not spill all over the place. She gave me an ice-bag and told me to hurry to my class. It was still bleeding and my legs and pants were covered in blood. It's nice to see actual facilities that work properly.
“If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Now is the time to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Obey His commands and repent of your sins because Jesus is coming back soon. Tomorrow isn’t promised.
HEY! I have a trivia question. Why are there STILL, in this equal rights day and age, more women nurses then men? SIMPLE.. because more men get sick BECAUSE OF WOMEN. I credit the classic TV series "Threes Company" for that nurse joke. My mom was a nurse for over 50 years and just retired at age 78. That joke still makes her grin. Just sharing. TO ALL FUTURE NURSES OUT THERE: never catheterize me.
You may be singing a different tune when your prostate swells, your bladder has 2 liters in it, and the urge to pee turns into pure pain 🤷🏼♂️. Caths arnt fun, and they should be avoided, but when you need then they are a life saver.
I wish y’all wouldn’t lie like this we all know a school nurse couldn’t help with a paper cut🤦♂️”here’s some ice don’t come back crying to me” is y’all’s catchphrase
