County Primary School, Sevenoaks, Kent.
Various shots of schoolchildren sitting on the ground and looking at maps in atlas books on their laps. M/S and high angle L/S show their teacher, Mr Waterman, taking a geography lesson; pointing at a globe with a long stick; we see they are sitting on a large map of the world that has been painted on half of their playground.
Several children take cards with country names on them and try to place them on the correct spot on the playground map; the teacher corrects one boy who puts Burma in the wrong place.
A female teacher, Miss Wickham, comes out of the school and rings a bell; the children gather up their books and run off; fade out. Fade into M/S of Miss Wickham coming out of the school again as the children run out after her for playtime.
High angle L/S as they run about over the map; several have toy cars, trains and planes that they play with and move over the map. M/S of a boy in spectacles called Robin Mills with a model plane; commentator says he "is actually following the official route of a major airline" as we see him land the plane on an island. Another boy, Richard Bevan, pulls a car by a string over the map of North and South Americas.
Nice high angle L/S of the children playing in the playground; more children are seen on the 'normal' half of the playground. M/S of a boy, Andrew Taylor, leading a model ocean liner across the sea.
Note: on file is a small news cutting about the playground, painted by Mr Waterman, plus a list of pupils seen in the film (too numerous to be mentioned here).
Cuts exist - see separate record.
