I believe that due to Maddie being at such a low point after the argument with her mom, she was spiritually wide open and kinda in a trance. This made her disconnected from her body enough to be able to hear and see the spirits of Martin and Janet. Because Maddie was in a hypnotic/trance state (remember what the other ghost said earlier in the episode)after the argument with her mom, Janet was able to barrel right into her and knock her spirit out of her body.
You’re telling me, that Janet is in possession of Maddie body and that Maddie is technically not dead but now she can’t get her body because her spirit is tied to the school?! Which means they would have to somehow track her body back to the school in order for Maddie spirit to get back in it?! Wow. Just Wow.
There are a lot of unanswered questions, but what I'm most curious about is how Mr. Martin is able to interact with stuff in the living world without them resetting. I mean, he's the one who locked Wally, Rhonda, and Charley in the fallout shelter, and the door didn't reset. I'm really hoping there'll be a season 2.

@lanabrown2541 Indeed. From what I've read, the writers have a lot of ideas for season 2. I just hope they're able to get it renewed. I didn't think about this until recently, but we didn't actually see who locked the door, so it's possible that Mr. Martin got a living person to do it for him. We all know that Simon can see and hear Maddie, so we can't rule out the possibility that another living person can see and hear Mr. Martin. Maybe Mr. Martin is manipulating whoever this living person is. The only living person I can think of is Mr. South. We haven't seen him since Sandra almost ran him over, and that was after he was arrested, so he must be out on bail. Earlier in the season, Mr. South talked about the scars of the school, so it seems like he knows something about the spirit world. My theory is that Mr. Martin is manipulating him - making him think he's doing the right thing. Of course, we don't know what Mr. Martin's true intentions are either. Only time will tell..... If we get a season 2, that is.
My suspicions were right. I had a feeling someone else took hold of her body. This was towards the end putting some pieces together. Plus the lack of larger amount of blood. I’m hoping they renew for a season 2. This show is sooo good! Love the unique twist ending. We never knew how mr Martin died and Janet. Just that she supposedly crossed over but rly didn’t. I had a feeling mr Martin was dark due to just when they were setting up for the homecoming game. Then mentioned it’s tradition and they do it every year. Then being close to Rhonda like she was with her guidance counselor. He was taking their vulerable times and keeping them back. With dawn she was never rly apart of their group so she never did the obituary and was able to cross over. Rhonda should’ve when mr monfredo was found and died in prison. Then with charley and Wally who both got their clarity due to Maddie. Charley was able to give the note to his love and Wally was able to realize he didn’t have to be dead for his mom and just be himself. I hope there’s a season 2. Loved this season!
Yeah you were right! :) I was skeptical of how they could’ve had that ending without it seeming like a cop out, but having Mr. Martin as the big bad, and the mysterious Janet involved was kinda genius! Definitely looking forward to a S2 if it gets renewed.

This is so interesting. So like Maddie does have this special power to be kind of a medium between the living and dead. It explains why she can talk to Simon, but it doesn't explain why she can talk to only Simon. This episode shows that she was able to see Janet and the Teacher, originally I thought it was people who had a true special connection to her that she could talk to. But those three seem genuinely unrelated. And in the end Janet ended up killing Maddie by running into her body. It also explains why the teachers been trying so hard to keep what happened to Janet a secret. Because there's a chance that once find out they can just steal a living humans body, one of them could try the same thing. It also kinda explains why they never found a body, they just saw a bunch of blood indicating that something had happened. But Maddie basically took Janet's place as the spirit. I wonder what's gonna happen because how is anyone gonna explain this? Expecialy since Simon thinks he's crazy now and refuses to talk to Maddies spirit.
She can talk to Simon because he is her true love of her life, a soulmate not just a freind. Since their love is so strong for one another it has created that bond so they can talk.
Maddie will realize that her body is alive and she wants it back. The ghosts have to somehow lure Janet back so Maddie can get her body back only Simon is the only contact she has in the living world. Unless the ghosts can recreate what Janet did and go after Janet themselves. Didn't Maddie over hear the teacher, Mr Martin say to Janet something like, "we have to figure out how you did that". Maybe Janet didn't pass but she somehow shed her ghost body and Mr Martin was keeping her trapped in that fall out shelter. When Maddie opened the door Janet took that opportunity to escape and she rushed out and pushed Maddie out of her body and she then occupied Maddies body.

Can't say I agree with your takes here. Sandra's speech and Maddie's obituary were quite moving and emotional, and Simon has been a fantastic character throughout. It's hard to fathom how you can say you like the show but don't like him, he's kind of integral.
The fact that I’m literally crying Maddie is dead and Janet is using her body. It’s so weird because Janet is the one that killed Maddie by flinging her backwards and hitting her head on the boiler that was a plot twist that I was waiting for.

We still don’t know what’s going on with the crowbar because that has blood on it but remember the crowbar could be from Maddie body but from Janet if that makes sense like Janet is inside Maddie body, so maybe Janet is the one that actually got hit with a crowbar since she’s the one that is in Maddie’s body.

I don’t know how I feel about this episode, I’m still trying to digest it. I’m all for a twist ending, but Janet! The same girl that everyone was thinking “who the fuck is Janet?” I think my early thoughts are this was a good season.
Right. I'm all for a twist. But there should have been more clues. My daughter is all like ' no one guessed it!' and I'm like 'because they wrote the killer into just that final 30 minutes of an 8 episode show. Of course no one could guess it because they gave no real clues. that's what's a little bother some. I enjoyed it over all.
I love this show. I hope it keeps going for many seasons and episodes. And I hope Maddie will be able to get rid of Janet before Maddie gets into too much trouble. Like, I know it looks bad on Maddie backing into her ex-boyfriend with his own truck. But somehow, Maddie has to be cleared of everything bad and get back into her body. So she can come back to her own life and go to college with Simon. They belong together. So her and Simon can live out there dreams together like they always planned.
Her not really being dead explains why she can talk to the living....maybe she'll be able to talk to others to prove Simon isn't going mad....it ruins my ship with her being alive, but it all makes sense now

I know that they were in the auditorium on the stage and everything when they were talking. But when Simon started saying you’re alive out there and I lost my mind. While being in that state of thinking he is going crazy, when he leaves and Maddie is calling after him. I notice this thinned black thing that kinda looked like a veil, looked like it was in front of her and thought maybe that moment put it back up between them or was that a curtain?
So it's a lot to unpack here. We never really get much as to who Janet is to begin with.. Mr. Weirdo keeping the kids in sessions trying to get as much info from them and their personal things. I believe that's part of the reason why the kids can't leave the school. Towards the end when wally and Charley find the tubs with their things. He needs the kids there. Because if he doesn't know what keeps them there he can't control them. I think Janet figured she didn't want to stay there anymore and the only way to leave. Was in a body. So when Maddie tells Simon my mother broke my spirit (while she's alive) during the argument in the boiler room. That's her lowest point. So Janet takes that chance. It works. Janet is free Maddie spirit becoming stuck. I always felt Mr Martin was controlling. I have questions as to how will Maddie's spirit could go back in her body. If Janet leaves town what would bring the body back to Maddie. How can Maddie chase her body. It has potential to a second season but it would have to be as equally creative and twisted to bring her body back.
She could have Simon maybe tell the others and somehow they see her if they try hard enough ire Maddie’s says things about them only baddie would know then they all hunt down Janet bring her back to school so Maddie could get her body back but we still don’t know what mr weirdos plans are cause I heard him say to Janet that im not letting u off the hook we need tk know exactly what u did and what it felt like and and b4 that she was saying no no i don’t want to ….sounds like she was scared and being forced to do something so she ran
I am guessing as he was a teacher his old teaching room is the area where he has 'control'. It is a portal where he can affect the physical. This would also explain why Maddie could his conversation with Janet.
i fill like Mr Marin might not be evil, he gathered all the info on the kids to understand them so they dont do the same thing Janet did, in an essence he tried to protect them but it comes out that he might be evil. If anything every episode he did try to help the kids cope with where they are in the spiritual world. If he wanted to he could have manipulated them into doing something bad. Dawn was the most hurt because of how she died and even mentioned she didnt deserve it but her bullies did and yet Mr Martin didnt use her hate to go into a living persons body. Dawn could be the key in saving Maddie as Maddie did save help her in cross over (if she did cross over). The lights flickering when Maddie was going to talk to her mom could have been a clue that someone was watching over Maddie and it could have been Dawn.

Have to rewatch the last part. The issue with Janet never really made sense and Dawn was right. You have to be with Astral projection for similar reason.
Idk I’m really not happy with the ending. I don’t understand how she saw Janet and Martin when the show itself showed us that you have to have a strong connection with the ghost to see them. I was so excited to find out how she died to then find out she didn’t really die which sounds so stupid so who thought it was a good idea. It could have easily been finished in this one season without the twist and I would feel much happier lol
I think Mr Martin can control the physical where he had control when he was alive; i.e., his old classroom - which is now his portal between the physical and spiritual. That would explain how he physically locked the door, but the sprit kids couldn't unlock it as they can't change the physical. His classroom being his portal to the physical could be the reason why Maddie could hear the conversation between him and Janet. I am not sure if Janet had same control too or if her powers to be heard came from talking to Mr Martin in his classroom. I am wondering if the Janitor was his friend in that classroom and could read his notes, just like Maddie can communicate with Si.
@Rummy wait this kind of makes sense. because in the end, wr only saw a silhouette of Janet while we saw Mr. Martin's full form in full view. Sure it could have been hidden to hide it from the audience. But it does make sense if Mr Martin has a "portal" to the living of some sorts and that's his portal. And with Maddie hitting her head and that's how she died, it would explain why her memories so fuzzy as if she got a concussion.
Ur not happy with it cause ur jumping ahead of the show 😂it was nvr stated that we as the viewers assumed that cause why not and it makes sense It said they could see each other where death has happened but nvr explains y Simone the only one to see her I think he was really sad in the moment that’s why same with Maddie which made their soul THINNED and that’s why they could see the ghost
The only way that is a good ending is if there is a season 2... Maddie needs to get her body back and send Janet to Hell. So far they haven't made a season 2 yet

My biggest question is where was Janet in Maddie’s body from when she entered Maddie’s body to when she drove Xavier’s truck off and get the ticket out of town? Like was she just hiding away? Lol this is where I’m most puzzled.
I take it she was hiding out in that abandoned house until she could figure out what to do and was then able to acquire the money that had been buried. I suppose she couldnt just play like she was Maddie because if she returned to the school in Maddies body as the other ghosts would notice, live Maddie and ghost Maddie.
1. Simon probably was the only one that was really connected to maddie, so thats why Simon was able to see her or the fact she technically isn't dead so someone can still kinda see her 2. Cinema logic, lol

We haven’t seen Janet. Remember they kept saying she disappeared some time Maddie showed up. Everyone thought she crossed over. She probably remembered what the teacher got did to her and got angry and had no idea she could take over a living person’s body.

I love basically any content that deals with the supernatural but School Spirits is a bit confusing and can not be taken literally. If what this RU-vid post is saying is correct, than the show is stretching what is possible in the spiritual realm. When a body is possessed, the possessive spirit can't push out the original spirit from its body. Maddie can not exist in the ghost world and Janet go around running in Maddie's body. In a possession, Maddie would still be in the body but not be in control of her actions or have her own will since Janet is controlling Maddie's body. Therefore, Maddie shouldn't be in the school afterlife with the other spirits because they are dead, she isn't. It is a cool concept though that completely threw me off on the thrill ride of "who done it" only to find out that she is alive. I love the idea! I am curious to see in Season 2 how this evolves according to the show's script. She is alive and thus she has a limited time to get back into her own body because she cannot live in the school afterlife now that we know her dilemma. A spirit cannot have an out of body experience for an extended period of time according to reality but since this is fictional, I'm curious to see how the show will handle this issue. I'm guessing that the Wally and the gang of school spirits will realize that Janet didn't cross over but possessed Maddie's body. They will help on the ghostly plane and Maddie will communicate with her best friend Simon to help in reality to perform some kind of ritual to exorcise Janet from Maddie's body and let Maddie go back into her body. Some very cool stuff should happen in season 2. Also, we now know that Mr. Martin is a malevolent spirit possibly controlling all these lost spirits from crossing over as they are just discovering. This is an interesting show but remember that it cannot be taken literally on the spiritual level. The spiritual inaccuracies are the writer's liberty to create, fantasize and entertain.

I want to know if she blames him for her death and how for years Mr. Martin kept Janet from speaking the truth to the other ghosts. Ok, not dead but displaced spirit...umm...okaaay, and next they will explain it with some witchcraft ritual or aliens. This show lost me as a viewer, I was starting to loose interest by the third episode. But episode 8...yeah that was the final nail in the coffin for me. I do so hope that this show never gets the green light for anymore seasons for a few reasons: First, this story is all over the place due to the loose coherency of the story. It's as if the writers have no clue where to take the main story and then try to patch it with weak sub stories. Second, the story line takes way toooooooooooooooo long (painfully long) to even make a point let alone bridging the connections between the sub stories and main plot line. Third, this show feels like someone took the breakfast club, dead like me, ghosts, twilight, chilling adventures of Sabrina, riverdale and Wednesday Addams; put it into a blender and dumped the result out on the screen...by no stretch of the imagination is this "original", new...maybe, but original...no.
