Don´t we all... The point here is that we are waiting for someone trigger some sense to all of us so we can say " ah yeah this climate change is real and we´re messing things up". THE most important ted talk, why? Because as she said, if a problem is so grave that it threatens our own existence then everybody should be talking about it and nothing else until it's addressed. But that would only happen if we were as smart as she is but sadly we are not which is why our long term survival as a species is extremely slim at best.

I think this girl has promise even though she is extremely annoying. She thinks she knows, but does not. I don't find her handicap cute. She should study and find ways to find new energy. She is crying out for help. So many living things are crying out for help. We cannot ignore them. How can we ignore them? Thank you, Greta. Please keep talking about climate change--and acting to change things.
She is repeating a well rehearsed spiel developed by some unscrupulous adult(s), designed to indoctrinate the young with extremely anti-science ideas and nonsense, much like a cult. They should be deeply ashamed. It's unlikely that she understands that there hasn't been any statistically significant global warming in her entire lifetime.
Rebeccarebelli According to my calculations my carbon footprint is about 55lb/day from electricity (25lb of that is to charge my electric car, for 60mi/day), and 13lb/day from meat, if I eat the way I “want” to. So skipping the meat will certainly do a lot of good, but can you perhaps explain where my calculation is wrong or how you came up with 51%?
Reducing emissions would have massive costs and do little good, because the natural CO2 absorption (by oceans, land etc) to return to preindustrial levels will take more than 100,000 years... So it seems to me, what we should be doing is invest in research for carbon sink technologies and other similar directions -- not bankrupt entire economies while yelling fire.
Josieloveselephants Not everyone - because of talks like these, I am now almost vegan, I have stopped using plastic water bottles and plastic bags, I have started a second compost pot and I try to use renewable energy when I can. One of the scariest moments in my life was when I realised that adults weren’t as smart as I’d thought. I slipped into depression as well, because I felt like nobody cared about issues because if they did, they would’ve been fixed. As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned about activism and campaigning. I’m now running for the youth parliament in my country, and I’m getting involved in public transport campaigns and now this one too. Keep fighting, you’re inspiring others to fix these issues.
To those who think "If the planet is doomed tf am I in school for?!", it is exactly what you're in school for. Not only because that would cultivate more scientists and engineers that are capable of understanding the issues and continuing to improve the solutions, but also because school would spread correct information which is the reason young kids know better than many older people and support Greta's point. So use her shouts as an inspiration to work harder, not as an excuse to be lazy or to blame everything on others. It is a progress, and it will only progress if everyone takes up responsibility they're capable of.

USA doesn't need to reduce emissions. Co2 is 1/3rd of photo synthesis, increased Co2 means increased availability for the proliferation of bio mass, more bio mass means more food, more energy and what isn't consumed, is sequestered and becomes.. you guessed it, Oil.
For most people, switching your car to an EV, and switching your electricity to renewable sources, reduces your pollution footprint by over 90%. That's an effective action!
@@deepzzzleep3575 It's considerably less than the pollution from oil. There is no perfect solution, but EVs are vastly less polluting than internal combustion.
In all of the climate change debate, this is the one argument which infuriates me. Look into it just a bit deeper and it becomes obvious that the opposite is true. Meat (ruminant meat, more specifically) is calorie dense and contains everything that is essential for humans to live. Ruminant animal meat is mostly dealt with in local/regional markets. (i.e.- less global scale shipping and all associated emissions). When grown in its natural state (i.e.- grazed and not factory farmed), it creates a rather natural cycle with the land it grazes on. Given all the land we dedicate for grain crop growth, we could easily switch over to a system of responsible ruminant animal farming that is sustainable.Vegetable and grain crops are much less calorie/nutrient dense (i.e.- you need more grams of it to sustain life). Vegetable and grain consumption increases the number of bowel movements in humans (i.e.- a greater stress on our infrastructure and water management systems). And the vegetable and grain markets are massive in scale (i.e.- large swaths of land are razed. Massive amounts of water are used. Natural ecosystems are displaced, and very large numbers of insects and small animals are killed. Pesticides, even organic ones, are relied upon to grow the plants but pollute the environment. These crops are shipped all across the world, increasing emissions. Massive amounts of crops never make it to market, because they don't appear picture perfect. Most of the grain crops are used as the backbone of the processed food markets, which are deleterious to human health. Further, processed foods require factories for processing and all the associated emissions and energy usage.)As for the health aspects of veganism vs meat eating, once you equalize for life style (i.e.- taking smoking, drinking, and processed food consumption into account), one does not appear to be any healthier than the other in a statistical sense. As for the idea that vegetables and grains are required for health, this is hotly debated topic at the moment...with much of the data leaning towards carnivore diets being mechanistically healthier for humans. The point here is, 'going vegan' to help the environment doesn't make any logical sense. It seems to me that vegans are proselytizing and adjoining themselves with climate activists with cherry picked, poorly constructed studies to further their stated position of being morally correct.
A single cow is fed for years and then killed for food. What can feed more people, one cow or several years' worth of crops that we're need to raise the cow? It's so obvious that veganism is far far far far more efficient at feeding people and we can reduce agricultural land by 70%. A cow eats more than a person
"Act", being the key word in this case. Greta put on a great performance driven into her psyche by a bunch of One World Govt activists wanting to control the world. Child abuse is what this performance demonstrated, nothing else.
What did anyone in that audience do to change the rules. My guess is nothing. Applause for a little girl is self absorbed and patronizing unless you follow her lead and do something.

Do what she told you to do, otherwise it’s just self-congratulation and self-righteousness. I love that Greta lives by her values.
Areliagh Where does it say they shouldn’t applaud? Your understanding of my point is narrow. I explicitly say that liberal elites enjoy feeling good when they applaud what they believe is virtuous, but once they leave the venue there’s no real action on their part. Greta highlights this too. So of course they should/can applaud, but their action is more important than anything else. Liberal elites love applauding the right causes, but that’s usually where it stops.
