We wanted to learn more, and taste more, which set the small town of Bardstown, Kentucky and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in our crosshairs. Bardstown is affectionately known as the heart of bourbon country! This is where we learned to love bourbon and most importantly where we go from being bourbon virgins to bourbon virtuoso’s!

Great video! I too have been to Bardstown and had a great time. I never thought I would end up becoming a Bourbon fan, but after tasting some of that 18 and 21 year ol' stuff...I had a whole new appreciation.

It's true, we went in never drinking bourbon unless it was hidden in a cocktail, now after all the education and personal experience we've found a few favs that we're happy to sip neat. Driving through KY in a few days and hoping to "test" a few more :)

3 oz of Woodford Reserve over 3 ice cubes and one/two whiskey stone(s) Let sit 5 min. After 5 min, smell the 'wood' tones that the melting ice is bringing out. Sip and enjoy. It's smooth! #myfave

I'm partial to Pappy's myself but it's so doggone hard to find these days what with the increased interest in bourbon of late. 15 years in a barrel for a moment of delight on the tongue proving patience is a virtue.

This was so cool! We are rum drinkers (Papa’s Pillar, Pyrat, Diplomatico) but enjoy a bottle of bourbon on occasion (not all at once). This was a great episode and it was fun watching your tasting observations. We drink our rum, and bourbon, on the rocks. It does make it easier going down and adds the component of water. Too much burn straight. Now you have us thinking about taking a trip to Kentucky and check all of these tasting locations out. We’ll have to see what the the restrictions are with Covid, but hopefully things are improving and more will be open come summer time. Thanks for sharing your adventures and letting all of us in on it. BTW, I’ve had the 1792 and thought it was good. Travel Save. We enjoy hoping back and forth between your Catamaran episodes and you RV episodes. Retro Wynns R-V-in !!!!

Hi Guys, like many of the RV channels I subbed, I found you through RU-vid recommendations. I am also travelling full time, but internationally (I have a goal to visit every country). I rented an RV for my forthcoming Japan trip. I am documenting my journey too and I am really impressed by the quality and high production value of your videos. How long have you been doing this? Anyway, I will be in the States in June, driving Route 66 Chicago-LA and back!

Have you been to Jack Daniel's in Lynchburg, TN. My first visit was in 1967 and I took my wife there a couple years ago. My first visit seemed to be right out of the history books but that has all changed over time and now very touristy but still very much world the trip. We were camping in Nashville by the Grand Old Opry so we did Lynchburg as a day trip. Beautiful country. So try it next time you are in the area.

In the article you mentioned Tequila, I never liked it Until I tasted some that was aged in and Oak Barrel, it was very very smooth with a hint of sweet. I heard somewhere the older the less burn, but I don't really know.

I'm not into the Broubon/Whiskey/ Scotch scene myself, but given the opportunity, A fine bourbon with a chunk of ice from one of those Alaskan glaciers you paddled across? That would be good times in my book.

Add a teaspoon of water if it's too harsh for you. I've heard you want your whisk(e)y to be about 38% alc/vol. when drinking. So, the higher the alcohol content, the more water you should add.

Back in the day when I did drink some Bourbon I always preferred Jack Daniels Old # 7 Black Label. Now that I am getting on in years and can no longer afford to kill off any more brain cells I stopped drinking any kind of Bourbon. The one exception is my wife and I do enjoy two or three bottles of wine a year. I have only been to one distillery and that was you guessed it Jack Daniels in Lynchburg Tennessee. An enjoyable tour.

Thank goodness you stopped in at Makers Mark. It's the hallmark of the Kentucky Bourbon industry and would have hurt your cred if you missed it. Did you become an Ambassador and get your name on a barrell?

Next time you come to the Bluegrass State in pursuit of bourbon, do yourself a favor and tour Buffalo Trace in Frankfort. It is home to some of the finest 'nectar of the gods'. As a son of Kentucky and one who truly appreciates one of our finest products, I can honestly attest to the worthiness of Frankfort bourbons being some of the finest produced. Four Roses in Anderson county come a very close second. Of course, this is only my personal opinion. But one steeped in experience and consumption. Not unlike motorcycles..."it's not what you ride, only, that you ride"... Bourbon is much the same...just enjoy the pour... Yours sincerely, Kentucky Curmudgeon

Most experts will tell you to mix with water at a 1:1 ratio. I like scotch but the good stuff neat but on the rocks, cheep at lest 3:1 on the rocks.:)

I was told that the Jack Daniels distillery is actually in a dry county. But that on the tour they get around not actually selling you the bourbon by selling you the bottle and filling it for "free". Cute huh
