This is literally the silliest thing schools have done yet, even parents disagree with it, so you know it's bad #Rant #videoessay #Speedpaint #Pngtuber #schooldrama #school
I am tired of schools doing this to students, WE. ARE. PEOPLE. they cover up a lot of things in schools to keep their "reputation" and im tired of schools being more controlling.
I have to have my phone on me at school for when I'm overstimulated so that I can prevent meltdowns. It helps just putting on nature sounds at a low volume. I've missed classes before because of meltdowns. I think most teachers would prefer if I have one ear bud in over causing a disruption.
If you have meltdowns you should tell your parents so you can get papers signed that your allowed to have headphones or smth as a coping mechanism. Thats what my friends did
Just don’t use your phones when you are learning. If a kid needs it for medical purposes, LET THEM!! I hate how kids use that excuse to skip class, so it makes kids who actually have medical purposes, not be able to go.
I'm starting high school this year and I'm really nervous. Last year my school got 2 bomb threats TWICE in a row (which was my first experience with school threats) so i was reasonably quite scared. I called my mom and taled to her which probably helped me stay calm. I'm also possibly on the autism spectrum and I have anxiety as well so I can panic easily, which I listen to music for sometimes. AND a lot of the kids at my school are mean and I'm worried someone will hurt me. I could go on with the dumb rules probably but the school system keeps getting worse and more controlling. :(
This is exactly what I'm going through.. my school is notorious for violent threats and I'm genuinely scared for my safety. And the music thing I heavily relate to as well, but now we're in danger of getting referrals for having earbuds in between classes
FR!!! I'm 18 and a senior in high school with autism. I hate this whole banning phones. It's now a law in my state. We can't even listen to music which helped me do my work so I didn't have to listen to all the annoying students. It really helped me drown everyone else out. I don't understand why everyone has to be punished.
Yea. Same here. The cellphone ban here is on a national level, and even in the first day of the ban, I already went onto my daily 40 minute bus trip, which feels horrible, when my dad had already texted me saying that he'd come pick me up. He texted me while my phone was in the box.
In 6th grade the roof of my mouth got stabbed with my pencil, my teacher thought it wasn’t bad enough to send me to the office so I had to wait 10 minutes watching them scramble to find a bathroom pass to I can wipe the blood out my mouth.
That’s bull. You should have gone to the nurse immediately, so they could call more professional help. Not to mention led poisoning. If something serious happened to you because of how long it took to get help, you’d have every right to sue the school.
One of my teachers mentioned how it was the French who started it and the dude next to me says “oh, of course it was the French” 💀 I also have a heart condition and need to have my phone on me in order to record the data that I get from my Apple Watch onto my phone.
I wouldn't say I'm disabled, but I have autism with low support needs. I can go nonverbal if I get too overstimulated. I also have anxiety, so it can happen a lot quicker. I play music in my headphones so i can drown out any unnecessary noise, and it helps me focus. If im in class without some sort of distraction, i will either go nonverbal or have a panic attack. It has happened multiple times and yet my teachers still refuse to give me a 504. (I also have a big difficulty with focusing and following along.) My teachers said "It wasn't severe enough to have a 504", but I literally get NAUSEOUS and PUKE when my anxiety gets too overwhelming. One time i got in trouble because my teacher asked me a question and i used my notes app to communicate- I've also got in trouble for stimming, texting my mom, drawing vent art, and GIVING MY FRIEND A HUG. I go to a private school for neurodivergent kids btw.
My highschool banned phones last year It’s my second year I’ve never been able to use a phone ever at my high school I’ve never realized how weird this was to other people but also the ID rule exists which I will protest against until I die
I just graduated from my old school about 3 months ago, and if you carried a phone into the building, the office required you to put it in a box and they would keep the phones in the office. AND, you had to power off your phone. If they found a phone that wasn’t powered off, they would not let the student have it back at the end of the day. Once a kid got caught with a phone, and the building had to stop everything they were doing and search half the school. The had people take off sweatshirts and empty pockets and bags. I had gotten caught with my phone in my bag. The office took my phone away and told me I couldn’t take it home unless a parent came to the school to pick it up. When they told me that I was speechless. I honestly don’t think that should be legal. The phone is my property. They have no right to not let me have it. Completely insane to me, honestly! My mom wasn’t mad at all for me getting my phone taken, I would keep it in my bag for cases where I had an EMERGENCY and needed to call someone. I never once even took it out of my bag during classes. I understand that schools don’t want kids using phones in class, but like you said, if a teacher spots a kid using their phone when they shouldn’t be, just take it from them! I like the example you gave of yourself here, what if you can’t speak and you need to text someone you know? What if a kid has an asthma attack? Or a crippling anxiety attack? What about cramps that are so bad they might pass out? Schools need to stop focusing only on behavior and more on the student’s actual well-being and mental state. TLDR - My old school prohibited holding onto a phone at all during school hours and there’s a lot of things wrong with it.
I 100% AGREE, even thought this isn't about phones, in middle school they don't even try to teach us. Instead they show us LONG videos about something relevant to the class. The only teachers trying to teach us are our math teacher (shoutout to Ms. Haynes ^^) and our sciene teacher (shoutout to Ms. Bruss ^^). Every other teacher just gives us a paper and pencil and thinks we're automatically gonna know the answers. They don't even try to stand up and teach us basic stuff. Everyone wonders why kids hate school.
i’m pissed about this. last year was my FIRST year of middle school. i was so excited. it was my first school year with a phone, and i felt so independent. that’s the *point* of middle school. you’re supposed to feel independent, and having your own phone is a big part of it. i’ve had an ipad for years, but having a phone is so different, because i can bring it to school. my friend’s mom is scared to tell her because she’s worried she’ll refuse to go to school. my mom even expressed her feelings about not being able to reach me directly without going through the office. im just upset. if school districts are upset about people using phones during class, they shouldn’t ban them. there has to be another way to deal with it. it just shows they don’t care as deeply as they should about this kind of stuff. edit: couple extra stuff. my best friend lives on the other side of the state. whenever i feel sad, i text her. i LOVE my friends i have right now at school, but i don’t want to vent to them. plus, sometimes, when im sad, texting/writing is just easier. also, if i need to contact my parents or anything like that, i will refuse to talk to the teacher about it. i will refuse to even tell them that i need to step outside for a minute. i wish i could talk to them, but brains are dumb i guess. having a phone for school would allow me to contact my parents, even if its just to say i forgot my binder, and i would much rather that than talk to my teachers.
In my school, If we want to wear a coat / jacket, we have to have the school blazer underneath. Otherwise, we’re “replacing the uniform.” ??? Also, no lollipops. Because otherwise the 13-16 year olds will all choke and die apparently. I’m sure someone who’s 2 years away from being a legal adult should be safe around candy.
Btw next year (in 2 weeks) everyone is only allowed the same fucking backpack with a Christian cross on it. All are navy. This defo won’t get confusing…. Everyone needs the school pe leggings. Plain black ones aren’t acceptable, they need to have “team (school name)!” On them…
THIS!!!! Like it’s crazy how they spend so much time worrying abt phones than dealing with actual serious stuff that matters (for example my high-school has a STRONG roach problem that they have done NOTHING abt for awhile that students AND teachers have complained abt and yet they still want to spend all their money on applying a new phone rule 💀.)
For some extra context the school is nearby the woods and I do understand that being by the woods does mean that bugs will show up and all, but the AMOUNT of roaches I’ve seen over my school year is COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE and me and one of my past teachers have agreed on that……like they even called a pest guy and even after that the roach problem still persisted 😭
My school banned phones too actually if you get caught using your phone in class theyre going to take it away permanently. I mean its my personal belongings why are you taking it away? Its kinda scary knowing your a kid with problems and you cant contact your parents/guardians. If we do ask if we can use our phones they'll probably say No or "Use it just be quick" or ask for our parents/guardians phone numbers. im happy that some teachers in my school are chill so they actually let us use our phones for a bit and then put them back in the box.
I guarantee you that's not even legal. Nowhere else can places make rules where they set their own unique punishment- you break a rule in an establishment, you're asked to leave. They don't go "Ah, you broke the rule where we're now allowed to make you do 50 push ups on a desk!" And especially not "You broke the rule, now we get to have your belongings"
@@catpoke9557 yeah I know it's not legal but I think they're trying to scare us or something like that. I mean I saw my friend using their phone while the teacher wasn't looking (my friend had to go to like a holiday or something that day) so they were texting their mom...I don't know what happened when the class snitch obviously snitched but the teacher like took them out of the classroom and everyone had to stay seated. So I guess they told their mom or something like that?
Man I am so glad i don't have to deal with this in college. Most any teacher did regarding cell phones back when I was in high school was have a progressional policy where we started the semester slowed to have our phones. If the majority of the class was distracted by their phones, he would have us put our phones in a cubby for the lesson. Then, after a little while, he would let us have our phones again. If you really needed it, you were still allowed to access it while it was in the cubby. That one seemed fair enough and seems like a reasonable workaround to the distracted class problem
They’ve always been banned at my school but I think another issue is lockdowns, fires, or anything of the sort. I think it’s really stupid if you were not to be able to use your phone in a life threatening situation. In may we went on false lockdown for about 10 or so minutes and I was absolutely terrified so ofc I was texting my mom (I have a smart watch) because lockdowns/sh**tings are a huge fear of mine. Luckily, my teacher didn’t say anything or she didn’t see
As someone who considers Smartpass the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE, considers the phone ban highly problematic AT BEST, and goes to the school with EASILY the WORST DRESS CODE EVER in a 50 mile radius... Yeah I hate school. With every single bone in my body.
I understand why schools are trying to ban phones; in some of the districts where policies have been implemented it works to improve student behavior and get people to actually talk to each other. As someone who works in juvenile justice I’ve seen enough cases of a student fighting a teacher for confiscating their phone or even fights scheduled through social media at school [+ being filmed] I understand safety concerns, but since before every child had a personal phone there have been reliable ways for a school to contact a kid’s parents. We should be focused on getting our kids to stay in school and learn, as education/lack thereof correlates strongly to incarceration rates and phones and social media at school is only another pitfall and distraction preventing teachers from effectively managing classrooms and actually getting anyone to learn anything.
Yeah while in middle school I got "told off" for wearing earbuds by a teacher despite it being the time in between classes. Like ma'am we have 15 minutes and people are often loud during those times and along with having ADHD... Yeah not fun
Yea it sucks because there was this one girl in the middle, for the sake of it I’ll call her N. She, works better with music, I’ve saw this myself. It genuinely does help her and I’ve saw her get told off by the dean, principle, etc time and time again and it kinda sucks bc she’s doing nothing wrong but walking in the hallway with her earbuds
They did this in my school too. I have big curly hair so on Friday I put one of my ear buds in and my music helped me do my work. I'm thinking about doing it once in a while. I literally have autism and I will fight for my right to atleast listen to some damn harmless music to help me work.
My school has a phone "ban" (it's law that schools have to do something about phones where I am) but we just put ours in a pocket and thankfully they people who need them for medical reasons use them. I feel like there's a lawsuit or something waiting to happen if someone who needs a phone isn't allowed to use it and then has a medical emergency
Also on the underfunded classrooms- my school had to buy a ton more phone pockets this year (not lockable ones) but they used that as an excuse to just take away the whole budget for the band/orchestra. So that's fun
my school just banned phones and i live in ruralish texas. gee I really hope my school doesn't get literally pew pewed or get another b0mb threat lol gee that'd be bad i wouldn't be able to text my family goodbye >_>......
There's evidence that suggests that banning phones on campus improves test scores, improves social interactions, and lessens stress. However, this only works if there is a system in place for emergencies or support for students that have medical issues. If the school cannot accommodate so many students in the event of an emergency, then they need to allow exceptions or better their system. Unfortunately, because of these potential better test scores, more schools are going to push for this change.
I feel like the cellphone ban could work on some level, but not even during lunch or breaktime? I get the phone being banned in class, that's fine, but during lunch or breaktime?
I feel like having some rules against them would be better than outright banning them, like using them for research purposes only or not allowing games or taking photos of people without permission and such. Many people, like myself, function in classes a lot better with music and such, so banning phones could make things harder for many people to focus (ironically). Btw, I love your voice! :D it’s pretty calming. And your PNG sona (idk what it’s called my bad)?! I LOVE IT!! They’re so cool looking!!
apparently the school i went to last year (before dropping ou tlol) did this too. they always SAID they didn't want phones out and "banned" them, but now they actually enforce it.
I go to a school where phones are banned. I’m from the UK but a school near me lets them have their phones in break/lunch. But the school I go to doesn’t let you have your phone at all, even if they see it in your pocket they will confiscate it. Due to this, I am used to this phone rule. A lot of students use their phones in the toilets during lessons because of this.
I was in the educational system during the mid-90s and 2000s, so phones weren't really a thing. My first was an old Nokia duing 2005 before heading to college
I have HORRIBLE debilitating panic attacks, where I go into a vasovagal syncope. my pupils dilate to the point of me not being able to see at all, it feels like there’s an egg in my throat that’s stopping me from breathing, I get horrible nausea, there’s constant ringing in my ears, ear splitting headaches, shaking uncontrollably, and I have passed out because of these! Also keep in mind I can’t see or breath during any of this sh*t! And If my school takes away my watch, THE ONE THING I CAN USE TO CONTACT MY PARENTS, I might pass out and no one could help me! This rule is irresponsible, inappropriate, and disgusting!
i live in the uk and most schools have already banned phones. it’s crazy to imagine being allowed to have your phone and the fact that a phone ban is considered so insane is wild to me. personally i see the issues but my school deals with students with health issues really well so i obviously won’t see many of the negative effects i’m just so surprised to see it be considered so major when its sorta just accepted here 😭 (i do wish we could record shitty situations though but my school has a full ban on recording people even with our school issued ipads its fucking mad)
For my school we only can have them in the cafeteria and passing time now, people with issues in my school have to have some kind of note that they're the only students allowed to have their phone in class. For me I see why they are doing this, but at the same time they're being lazy, they can take away the phones instead. My teachers lack security, one time a kid brung a flare to school, now it was at lunch time when he lit it up and walked down the halls but lunch is at 11:04 and we start school at 8am, so that means he had it in the building for about 3 hours.
@@DoughBoy_Silly Yeah, that's crazy. My school really needs to pay more attention. We did get a new superintendent and vice principle which is nice. I am worried about the future of schools.
As someone who has a 504 and is allowed to listen to music in class on my phone, I have to VERBALLY tell most of my teachers about it or they take my phone and put it in one of those stupid lockboxes. Like MAYBE I don’t want to tell my entire class that I have a mental disability?
Last year, we had a total of one gun threat (from a student), three criminal trespassers, multiple assault/SA incidents, and many lockdowns in general, including severe weather. I would much rather students scroll tiktok during class then to not be able to contact parents during emergency.
I don’t want to be rude, but what the heck is going on with your school? Like the most that happened at mine was that a teacher did the no-no with a student and didn’t go to jail and will be able to join the staff again after a few years (which is still insane though)
EXACTLY. like this is just gonna make incidents much more likely to happen and without any evidence, and in the case of severe weather, people aren't gonna be able to call their parents to pick them up. also i would like to send my condolences towards you because of how much you gotta deal with at your school, my high school was the exact same way :(
Today was my first day of school and I noticed some teachers were way stricter about phones- I understand why but I feel like if kids don't want to learn they probably won't...
my state banned phones from schools and students aren't supposed to even bring a phone onto the campus, and the school can even be shut down entirely if a student has a phone
At my highschool: you cannot use your phone AT ALL for ANY REASON. It cannot even be in your pocket. Wanna know what happens if they find you using it, or on you? You get it taken, and you have to PAY to get it back. $15, plus your PARENT has to do it. (Same rule for wireless earbuds. Even if youre using on your computer, both your earbyds AND phone get taken. $15 for each.) Kids in my school have gotten fired from jobs, had medical or personal emergencies, or transportation issues due to this. I myself included have had numerous emergencies and couldnt contact my parents.
I only bring my phone to school incase of emergencies. I 😮 teachers get wary because some stupid kids like to post w/o permission but I need my phone incase something goes down. I could have band practice or a bomb threat could happen, and I need my parents to know these things ASAP
My middle school made us put them in our lockers. But this led to me (a person who at the time didn't have a phone) being harassed by the staff often enough that my mom and dad had to call the school to tell them ive never had a phone even during middle school. Now in my high school it different from teacher to teacher but mostly either you put your phone up in this pocket thingy or you can have it in your bag and are told then its okay to use it, if not its getting sent to the office. This is when i finally got a phone and im glad i did bc most kids act like hooligans about this, but the only reason for a phone was to text my parents personally. But one time my teachers were telling this kid who clearly had his phone to put it back up in the phone pocket thingy and he kept saying he didn't have it, so i just told my tech that he did have it (he was being called out for it just admit it!) And then he proceeded to tell me he will get someone to beat me up. Next thing i know im hearing him and two other guys got in trouble for bribery since they were trying to convince a junior to beat me up 😐 Like i think banning phones in full is a dumb idea, some parents just need to tell their kid and punish them more so they stop doing stupid things on their phone while at school (but thats a dumb assumptionthey would do it at all). Banning phones means: what if there is a Toronto outside and the kids want to text or call their parents? They cant and the student knows they cant say goodbye if anything were to happen. Its even WORSE now that most things in school require a PHONE or thats most middle and high schools in my area. Like i need my phone for my school ID to get food, a book, to log into something, get into the school if i left for an appointment, to sign myself out. All of that isnt paper anymore and i doubt my school would want to waste more paper to do it. And yeah the whole thing with medical issue too, last year i kept having really bad stomach problems it felt like (and still does) i have a ball in my stomach and so i had to call home to many times for hte amount of pain i was in and also i kept getting small colds all through out last year as well. If we the students cant get to our parents to tell them what is wrong in a nice and timely manner then there is SOMETHING wrong. Thanks for reading my long commet lol! :)
In Ohio (at least where I am), you aren’t allowed to use phones or personal electronic device that isn’t a Chromebook during school at all. I’ve even heard teachers express their disagreement.
Tbh it’s a mixture of what I feel I’m graduated thankfully but there is more to these things as well. When I went to high school I was heavily bullied I was recorded being beaten I was recorded for when I tried to defend back I was being recorded by random ppl from the folks who bullied. I also did suffer from a lot of medical issues as well. My thoughts is kinda mixed. Cause in one point you have kids who get recorded by people, get taken pictures of, getting threaded black mailed by others ect. (Trust me I’d know) But then it goes to people who really need it who have many other stuff mental / physical wise. In the end it’s gonna be a 50/50 im graduate so I’m thankful I’ll never have to deal with this.
Tbh my middle school literally banned phones last year. We have to keep them in our backpacks but jokes and them. I have it in my pocket lol besides, I need my phone in case of emergency they shouldn’t take phones away especially not from disabled kids
I’m going into middle school tomorrow, they also bought the yondr pack thing. When I heard about this shitshow, I knew something was wrong. EVEN MY PARENTS found it strange
I have a pretty small school. Our school banned phones. We get to bring our bags around classes, and if they find out that you had a phone in your bag they would take away your phone. Even if your not using it. Luckily in my bag I have a certain pocket that is sorta hidden wher I can keep my phone. Not to mention at my school my mom works there as a para, and paras and teachers will also get their phones taken away. Like if my mom got a call from the hospital and she answered is she would get her phone taken away. This rule is outrageous
That sounds illegal. No way ir's legal for a school to confiscate a staff member's property, right? The school I've been working at has a rule not to use your phone outside the break room too (with specific exceptions), but the consequence isn't them stealing your phone from you. The coworker I'm thinking of got talked to about it multiple times, and I'm sure eventually some form of action would be taken if he never figured it out, but that action would not be theft.
At my school, we are allowed to use the, during lunch. We otherwise have to keep them on silent and out of sight. I kept mine in my pencil case and lulu bag a lot last year. We got pretty lucky with phones tbh.
I have adhd (as well as other things I wont mention) and generally cannot bring myself to work without music, and im in a particularly infamous school so the students that are very annoying (especially with the ban) and considering how I take both honors classes and career classes so this really affects me. (also im really serious it takes me an hour or more to do the dishes if I dont have music let alone schoolwork)
my shool (before i started online) had a phone ban. my parents had me keep my phone on me so i can call them in an emergency like a shooting or if someone tries to attack me
until there are A. tech-savvy kids who root the device or B. TikTok trend forms to do literally anything that breaks the phone so the school wastes money
I go to a special needs high school in the uk, I age regresss in really hard situations and my cg goes to a different school so I usually text them or call them when I need them to come over to help me or just to talk to them but I can’t do it until the day is over now due to the phone ban and apparently I can’t even use my phone in the office since “others will get jealous”
@@aucraia fr I don’t get it because why aren’t they told to just “deal with it” it’s like when kids get jealous at kids in wheelchairs because they don’t have to walk
I think my STATE banned cellphones in middle schools....or something similar. While I may not have any medical conditions, being able to listen to music to ground myself in the three most stressful years of my life saved me by giving me something to calm me down. My last year was so difficult for that very reason (that's when the ban started getting larger). (Luckily my high school is far more lenient with their phone policy)
My school lets you have ur phone but you can’t have it *with you* they think you’ll cheat. I mean, which, if you let 8th graders have phones out, they might cheat?? Idk…but my mom said it was “Stupid that you can’t have ur phone! What if I need you!?”
It’s my third day of school and I’m on the bus rn. To be honest, I’m really empathic and can see eye to eye with reasons for others actions. And in my opinion, it is so stupid that we’re not even allowed to have them in our POCKETS. And by the way, at my school THEY BANNED LOCKERS, SO I HAVE TO CARRY MY HEAVY ASS (15 pound) BOOKBAG ALL DAY. Like, what if there’s ANOTHER bomb threat at my school and I can’t text my mom? Because they force us to leave all our stuff at the school, including our phones. Last time this happened, we were transported to another school and I forgot my phone. Because of this, I almost didn’t make it home that day. So yeah, fuck school.
Ngl this is a USA issue. Where I live banning phones would only bring positive results, since people can’t control themselves and thus don’t pay attention to class, leading to bad grades.
Throughout my entire time during highschool phones were banned with rules getting loosened around my senior year during lunch periods. Like there were times when I would just bring my Nintendo switch when my career prep class was closed for the day
I understand while teachers find kids on there phones to much in school to be problem, the teachers in my school (according to classmates.) now check the students pockets and book bags for phones. I don’t have one yet but Damn? What if a fire happens? What if there’s a school sh00ting?
Also, as another comment mentioned, what if the kid has to walk home, and they get into an emergency or are harassed in some way? If they are forbidden from so much as contacting their parents, then they would have no way of contacting their parents
My school is really chill and they had the “cellphone ban” which is literally just keep it in your backpack. But apparently it was the parents that decided to enact this? I’m not sure if that’s really true..
My school recently banned phones They said that if you get caught once, they will take away your phone and you can pick it up after school. The second time you get caught, they will take it away and a PARENT will pick it up The third time they lock up the phone for THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.
Before this whole ban thing, my old school wouldn't allow phones, couldn't even bring them to school, if you were caught, got threatened to have it taken for a week, still snuck my phone in
I had a school who did NOT allow phones at ALL.... First offense? 50 DOLLAR FINE TO GET IT BACK... Second offense? Still 50, right? NO. 100 DOLLARS. EVERYONE i told that to thought it was illegal.
they COULDN'T have it at lunch, so if they needed to call their parents they needed to go to the office and call via the office phone, which could have been simplified if they just let kids have their phones during lunch??? i mean, them having their phones at lunch doesn't really interrupt any learning (they aren't learning they're just eating) and, they could just text a parent/guardian if they needed medication brought to them or if they needed to be picked up without announcing it to the entire office.. especially since the office is right infront of a hallway and other kids could hear why they're being picked up...
and THE BATHROOM PASSES.. THOSE FRUSTRATE ME SO BAD for that school we only had like 9 passes per 9 weeks, so we could use 1 practically only once every week... at my new school we have 2 per day which is a LOT better but still that's honestly one of the unsmartest things ive ever seen
My school got internet jammers bro and they got website blockers that block school assignments and WHY DO WE NEED TO PAY 20 BUCKS IF WE HAVE OUR PHONE. 'OUT?'
i go to a school where you can never use phones unless given permission by a teacher AND you have to have it out on the desk so they can see, even at lunch and break. people dont care. they go on their phones anyway (like i do at lunch sometimes)
Honestly, if they wanna ban phones so badly then the school need to get kids dumb phones or something similar, otherwise they can frick off with the phone ban
@@Shotgun_kin_fr its like a phone holder but it has a magnet lock on top, and you simply cannot open it without the key at the front of the school. idk i dont use one bc i dont bring my phone to school
Oh, yeah, I just found out about this last week when we went back to school. I don’t have a phone, my parents don’t let me, but my school has been getting more and more strict with their anti-phone policy and I think it’s getting outrageous. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get completely banned in the next two years.
My school almost did this despite us being in the UK because this was an issue over here too. We already aren’t allowed are phones to be seen or heard when on school grounds unless it’s pick up and we’re outside or waiting late in reception; and if they still felt it was an issue, they should’ve monitored us better and just continue taking phones like you said. However, their sh1t treatment of disabled children in our school is what they should actually be focusing on. Even if a kid just broke a leg or something, only teachers can open the elevators and this can make you late to class (which they punish you for) and dont even get me started on when they put barriers up during the finals exams. they block off the mid section of the school so you constantly have to take longer ways using multiple stairs. One time I had to take all 3 sets of stairs in only a few minutes to get to my class because I couldn’t get in the elevator and through the top without my TA (support staff member, im autistic and in a special needs unit that’s conjoined with main school) so I ended up getting there panting and in severe pain then had to leave the class. I’ve had friends be left in classrooms and had to crawl to get out because if a kid loses mobility in their legs, they chuck them in a hospital grade wheelchair and then neglect them a bunch because they refuse to do their job and watch a child; making them miss classes and be unable to get basic needs like allowance to the bathroom. But instead of fixing all of this, they worry about phones and the dress code. They ended up not banning it for some reason, but they created a punishment system specifically related to if they catch you using your phone, and if you get high up enough they aren’t against keeping your phone for several days. WHICH is very flawed, like you already punish the disabled kids enough, at least let em have some contact since you avoid them like the plague. This school is so damn sh1t, it’s going to hell.
I hope this doesn’t happen in my school- My mom have this app on my phone and hers so we can know each others location and if this happens… it would probably cause a lot of trouble and I kinda live in a not very safe city :/
In Indiana, they have already banned phones. If you need to text your parents, it's needed. My brother DOES NOT like the cellphone ban. He's fine with it, I guess. But he is not able to text my mom about how he loves her or able to tell her about something bad happening.
Some of my teachers give us 6 hall passes a trimester. ONLY 6. I have a health issue where I have a shorter digestive system, so I need to got to the bathroom a bit more often than most. So after those are up, NO MORE LEAVING THE CLASSROOM DURING CLASS. So like, What do they expect me to do, poo myself?
My school is trying to ban phones. And would just give us laptops to carry around school. Which in my opinion is way worse. Cause in my school you don't get lockers till 8th grade which means you would have to carry the laptop around in your bag which those are already extremely heavy from the many books and notebooks we have to carry. So i feel it could result in back pain. From how much we have to carry around. And it also quite aligns with everything said in the video. That some students might not be able to get medical attention or medication when they need it cause they don't have cellphones.
There’s a loop hole in the school documents for my county that I figured out by reading the rule over I don’t know if it’s for every school county though EDIT: If your wonder what the loop whole is it’s at least in may county it says “New this year every classroom will have pouches or containers where devices can be stored when they are *not in students bags*” so if they take the document to its full extent then it would only be enforced if the students phone or other electronic device is out of their bag 😋

I’m a high schooler in Texas, this is so relatable on so many levels. I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome that comes with a lot of other conditions like POTS and the TMJ issues you have (though much less severe). My school just outright refused to support me with these disabilities for 3 years, making it extremely difficult to study. It all came to a head at the end of my junior year (this past April/May), when I had to be absent from school for the last two months to get IV fluids. I ended up getting surgery to place a portacath to make IV access easier. My school did not like this and long story short I now have a 44 and 73 on my transcript which will definitely screw up my chances of getting into competitive colleges (not like I would’ve had a chance at being at the top 10% of my class anyways, there 600 kids in my class with 4,000 ish in the whole school like you). Now I’m on homeschool tho and it’s much better. Needless to say, public school is messed up in so many levels (including the phone policy, which is also stupid at my school) and needs to change
Detentions and referrals are being handed out left and right, even if you look at the time on your phone between classes. Not only that, but some kids have issues where they need music to focus! I am one of those people, and all the classes where I wasn't allowed to do so were the ones I struggled in (algebra and american sign language: i barely passed algebra and failed asl). Thankfully I'm getting a psyciatric service dog to help me keep calm especially in school, but I need to train her for a while before he can go, so I'm still going to struggle for at least a year
i find this super frustrating, i have adhd and often times if im about to break down i need to vent and i dont trust consolers much bc theyll put stuff on my record, i also have intense periods that i need tl have birth control but even then the pain is still horrible and i hate going into the office and being like “hey the pain from being an ez-y-squeeze ketchup bottle right now is so bad i need tl drug myself”
Oh god. This reminds me of a time I think it was my 10th grade year and my friend was in a class with this kid. Who earlier in the day when I had the same period as him. Was THROWING his phone around like a ball. And when my friend was in the same class as him. HIS PHONE STARTED SMOKING and it filled the whole room and everyone had to leave the classroom. His phone blew up LOL. No one was hurt but the phone.
I’ve never actually gone to a school that allows phones ( basically no one at the time had one in primary) and my intermediate didn’t allow them and when I started college (high school) they had just put in a phone ban. It was banned cus of students taking videos of others without their consent and posting them online which lead to a massive number of cyber bullying cases in my school. Now I’ve got a pretty small school (about 800 ppl) and most teachers are pretty chill with u using ur phone for an emergency (or just to take a photo of the whiteboard for class notes) as long as u ask permission first. But if it’s not super important like u forgetting ur pe gear then u have to go down to the office and the office ladies are super nice. But if it ever comes to a school wide emergency like a lockdown then the teachers would likely let us use our phones. Also they don’t put your phone in some kinda locker that some schools do, u’re allowed to keep them in your bag but with my math teacher he’ll ask u to leave ur phone on ur desk if u ask to go to the bathroom during class. My school also doesn’t care if ur phone is turned off or not as long as it’s on silent or a low volume.
I don't think my school's banning phones (i hope not, at least), but every year below mine(senior school), has chromebooks provided by the school and they use them in most lessons(i think) and I've seen them use their chromebooks all throughout break and lunch and no one cares, but then teachers come and tell us off whenever we're on our phones. And, to be honest, if I really did need to contact home, I wouldn't be able to put my hand up in class to do so, probably due to to my introverted nature.
Thank you so much, I still can’t believe my school bought 5 thousand dollars worth of phone pouches. I’m so glad some people have the same thought as me :)
