Schottis pleated blackout blinds from Ikea review. I have lived with the Schottis white pleated blinds from Ikea for over a year and now have a need for a blackout blind, I show how to easily and cleanly cut these to size and fit, and compare them to my white blinds.

Followed to the letter especially the sharp knife and square on the blackout blind to a front door, only needed half the size of the supplied blind, cutting to width and length....... No more street lamp etc, many thanks.

Honestly, I am not sure, they are not washable but do seem pretty tough with the black backing. At £3-50 I would give it a try! You could hang shiny side in, that would be waterproof I think.Good luck and thank you for watching.

Thank you for this very informative video! I needed it now as I want to purchase some Schottis blinds from Ikea. Can you kindly tell me in your opinion: if the grey blinds are 100% blackout, what percentage do the white ones block the sun? Thank you and wonderful job on all your videos.👍👌👍👌

That's a difficult one. I would estimate 70-80%. That is just a guess, sorry I can't be more precise. I do think the white ones are not really suitable for a bedroom. Thank you for the kind comments and for watching.

Good idea using the square vertically for the straight cut. Did they relax over time or still need weighing down out of interest?

Hi, they do relax though mine have a flat wooden batten glued to the bottom of each one to making lifting the blind easier.

Have they reduced the overall heat? It seems since the outer coating is a bit more reflective, it should help with that? Currently I have an issue where the direct sunlight heats up the apartment quite a bit

It does reduce the heat, but not as well as a silver reflective would do.

Loved how informative the video was 👍 Does anybody know if the white blinds are enough to keep my curious neighbours from looking inside our house in the evenings when the inside lights are on? Or should I go with the grey ones?

Hi, they are pretty good at keeping privacy. I have looked at mine form the outside and you can only see shadow that falls directly on the blind from the inside. So if you stand between a light and the blind and your shadow falls on the blind, you will see the shadow from outside. If this is not good enough the blackout blinds are completely lightproof. Hope this helps.

Hi! I want to buy these for my windows, but I need a tip on how to install them since I have a little bit of a challenge. The windows are rectangles but there is an arch in the wall so I can not stick the blinds on the ceiling. Any suggestions?

Could you cut the top of the blind to fit the curve?

Yes you can! Quite easily using a stanley blade and straight edge. I would imagine one blind will serve two maybe three windows in a campervan. Simply buy double sided tape. Best of luck!

Hello! Thank you for this video! Would it be possible for you to tell me how long are the blinds when totally “stretched” down the way you use them on your windows?I am planning on getting these for some big bay windows, but I need them to reach 98inches in length. I can read the info on the Ikea product description, it says it is 74inches long, but would this be totally stretched or just “hanging” like and accordion? As you can see I am but confused. Your input would be much appreciated.

Hi, the longest I can stretch mine out to is 76 inches, at that they are very nearly flat so you will certainly not achieve 98 inches. You might be able to join two by sewing or double sided tape but I have not tried this and I am not sure how this would look. I hope this helps.
