Bravo! Of many of the recorded performances I have listened to over the years, this is an ideal version of Schumann's Manfred Overture. Allow me to elaborate. According to Plato, if our mundane life is just a reflection of the "ideal" life that we seek to reach, then I'd say this Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra's rendition of Schumann's Manfred Overture is a compelling articulation of Schumann's vision of Byron's narrative poem "Manfred". Since the "ideal" or "perfect" version of this overture exists only in Schumann's score, the next best way to reach or realize this ideal is through this live performance by the WPO. Listen carefully and intently to the beautiful and powerful music making while watching the excellent camera work that captures many of the orchestra members' admirable playing, phrasing, and dynamic control (just to mention a few), all under the conductor's superb interpretation and subtle pacing. A wonderful combination of sound and sight, an audio and visual treat to be appreciated and treasured. Highly recommended.
I'm running out of words to describe how great this orchestra and conductor are. Recorded (superbly, I might add) here at the height of the pandemic, and I'm sitting comfortable at home, enthralled, when Warsaw is now facing a looming threat from Russia. I can do nothing but also include them in my prayers.
