You can’t blame the referee for reasons mentioned and then the result is what it is, regardless of who one thinks would have deserved it I think both would have deserved it for sure but football is a brutally result-oriented sport and the match ended how it ended, not much of a point in arguing about it today

Clearly to see from different angles that Jansen didn't even touch Hölzenbein, who had his first dive already in the 2nd minute of the game and a third one in the second half

@@Netherlands1974 Taylor said years later that it didn't matter if he touched him or not. He said tripping or attempting to trip. He completely missed the ball with that tackle. I honestly can't tell if he touched him, but it does look like Holzenbein fell easily.

@@Netherlands1974 it doesn't matter what Hölzenbein had said, because it wouldn't change any fact. Fact is, there was a clearly physical contact. The Dutch player didn't intent to play the ball but to bring Hölzenbein down. He succeeded because Hölzenbein fell and therefore, couldn't go on with his dribbling. Sure, Hölzenbein could have jumped over the Dutch player if he had anticipated being fouled, but he wasn't obligated to do that. If Hölzenbein had fallen without any physical contact, then it would have been a dive and no penalty. So, it was a clear penalty and luckily Breitner converted. And of course, Germany * * * * deservedly won that match. By the way, if you're a Dutch, then I recommend you 'Wij waren de besten' by Auke Kok. It mercilessly dispels the legend of the allegedly stolen World Cup title. Dass Hölzenbein das gerne genommen hat, kann sein, aber ein Foul bleibt ein Foul. - Davon abgesehen gab es ein noch viel klareres Foul an ihm kurz vor Schluss - der Schiedsrichter reagierte nicht. Und, on top, Müller erzielte ein reguläres Tor, das zu Unrecht wegen Abseits (er war in Wirklichkeit zwei Meter „onside“) aberkannt wurde. Arie Haan stand vor dem Elfmeter für Deutschland direkt daneben. In einem Interview in den 80ern hat er gesagt, erstens war es ein klarer Elfmeter, und zweitens zählt er privat immer so, dass Deutschland das Spiel 3:1 gewonnen hat.
