Ostfront, Ostruppen, Ostketten... Those Germans are hilarious with their language. Just add the two literal words together to make a new contraction lol.
@@adamg7984 ik, but have you ever heard of the "Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz"? That's a German word. It's just normal words added together lmfao But aside those words, German is a pretty logic language (Well, I'm German, so it's easy for me)
@@the1fab Since you can literally add any words together and create new ones at your liking, there really isnt a single longest word... might be the longest, in an official document used word though...
If I got a golden eagle for every time either the t34 or the Tiger 1's driver hatch unfairly bounced my shots I'd have every premium tank, plane and vessel in the game already. Great vid phly! Hope your holidays are going well!
Similar situation, though slightly shorter range, in the Tiger II 10.5cm and out sniped what was either a Conquer or Centurion, kind of forgot which. He saw me first and made the first shot, bouncing off of my angled UFP, I then proceeded to fire a single shot in his direction, hitting his LFP and one shotting him. Probably one my, if not my bet shot in Warthunder. This was over a year ago though.
@@niume7468 Nope, VFW has a long 88 (237mm pen) same level of boom as the tiger II, and a 5 second reload by default, with an aced crew you get that down to 4 seconds which is just... idiotic.. And while you may argue.. it has no armour. It not having armour is what makes it so ludicrously powerful, it's an absolute pain to kill these things unless you have HE rounds.
I recall reading decades ago that what made the Nashhorn dangerous at extreme ranges was the performance of the long 88 but the quality of the optics. I wonder if that is modeled in the game.
I have American optics off what I was told was a 'tank' (grandfather was in ww2). So some kind of tracked vehicle. Last time I had a look through it was around 2014 or so. It always surprises me how good they worked all those years later, even though spending a lifetime outdoors - grandfather mounted it on a concrete-base stand on a terrace overlooking the sea and town. It has a dial where you can switch colour filters. Asides from the regular clear sight, the yellow filter looks best. Actually I just had a google and it might be an M17 Minneapolis Honeywell from memory of the shape of the thing or something similar to it. Mostly used it as a kid.
Tank optics are usually sealed pretty well with inert gas flush inside and a generous amount of desiccant to prevent fogging. Also the glass is top notch doped borosilicate. Probably the windows of your houses will distort (glass does flow, super mega slowly) before this optics going bad.
Someone better make a sound mod that is just Phly speaking as the crew whenever a non-pen or ricochet hits, with "5 million Golden Eagles" (with an optional of the native language of the country the crew hails from)
Those bounces remind me of the time I played the ISU-152 and hit a Sherman 105's barrel, absolutely eliminating my round while his barrel wasn't even damaged... At all
@@squidy4082 It has but not noticeable until you shoot at much further ranges. It uses the long 88, the same gun as the King Tigers, which has 1000m/s Muzzle velocity.
@@robertharris6092 The Tiger II P and H are formidable tanks, both turrets and especially the chassis. One of the best tanks of 6.7, next to the T34 and Super Persh.
You know Phly, for the longest time I didn't understand your channel. I was watching all the channels that were first giving the history of the vehicle and then review it. You were just making funny noises and laughing. But now I get it, you are having fun and I am having fun with you. Every video you make makes me laugh, enjoy and smile. Thank you.
I've only played this game for 2 months and I already believe that the game will, artificially, alter game play, based on your performance that round. The amount of times when I've been shelled directly, when I've been up on the board vs. down is astronomical.
@@DustyJumpWing I can't definitely quantify this but after my first 62 or 63 days, playing daily,I've come to assume that I have a 50/50 chance of being the uptier or down tier , so it basically factors itself out. Of course we have the good games and the God games and the rage inducing games but unless you're someone like Phly, those are usually, statistical anomalies. And yes I know that I have overthought this and over worded it.
Maybe it's because when you're having a good game you are more offensive/active/exposed, engaging more people thus making your position known either by hits or scouting, which will result in more shelling.
@@Bazelf dude may sound crazy but he may be actually right, when you shoot 122mm from a IS-2 into a side of a light tank and shell just.. disappear to some other dimension known only to gayjin and you recall a battle earlier was very profitable for you makes you think about conspiracy xD things just are too fkd up to be coincidencial
Day 121: Phly, you should play the Hawk III Chinese fighter; 900lbs of bombs in a biplane at 1.0 that you can dogfight in after dropping. Totally balanced.
Day 252: Phly, I challenge you to the conphusing aerial smokescreen challenge. Destroy three enemy aircrapht with smoke shells in a single game. Good luck. o7
I have played it in sim day ago, had a blast haha even 2a6 dm53 bounces off t34 driver hatch true that on that “none of us will ever be good at this game”, we are as good as the game allows
Great video as usual, Sir! Been a while since we've seen a video with you, Odd, Benny, and Jean Claud. Love watching you guys having a ball together. The laughing is just so contagious I find myself almost in tears as I laugh right along with all of you. Anyway Keep up the great videos and Happy New Year to you and yours! And Happy New Year to everyone in the chat as well!
You really struggle until you get the sabot rounds for their 37mm's. Then have phun! I even use the Lago 1 in much higher BR matches because it's quick and that 37mm APDS can pen 105mm.
"If you guys aren't using the Nashie, you aren't doing it right." *cries in non-premium Poor Thunder player who can count their 5.3 tanks on one hand, none of which are Nashorns.* Day 33: Take the Scimitar, the last Supermarine, out for a spin. 1000 pounder bombs, MCLOS missile CAS, non-exploding rocket goodness, whatever.
I need to say, that i didnt really watched your Videos for a while, but maaaan i am so glad, that i came back again. This was really fun to watch and i really missed it, thanks for the cool Video! Stay safe and peace :)
As a nashorn player i can say that by some reason he get quite inconsistent when hit angled armour while i dont see this behaviour with other tanks who use the long 88 or even in the projection analisys, maybe there is a bug there.
probably a balance decision by the Snail, but it does not make much sense considering the 88 mm is the only thing the tank has going for it, but then again, maybe its bcs u mostly shoot t-34s and their armor is just dumb
If this is proposital for balance reasons, this is the most weird and unnatural method for it, and about hit t-34, actually I could observe this same behavior in other tanks, again, always in angled armour sections with insufficient angle to actually bounce the shot, thing that doesn't happen with the waffentrager (at least with my experience). And until now I always tinked that this was my imagination, or just bad connection, but wen I see phly bounces I immediately saw semelhance with my experience
Phly should do a special new year’s livestream to countdown the last 30 or so minutes of the year. I say this because there might be some people not celebrating with their family, it would be a good way to let those people celebrate the new year. It’s just an idea, and I get that he has a family an all so if he does not and spends time with his family, it’s fine.
2:21 Hill on E3, perfect sniping spot. You are at a comfortable 400+ meters from the enemy, most of them have no idea how to shoot through the canopy and you are safe from the planes because of the trees and rocks there.
I’m glad Phly is speaking up about the bs russian bias. I get similar bounces among the whole t34 line that leaves my head scratching. Gaijin must fix this, but it’s been years been broken like this
Great video as always! You should do a video on the new Chinese M41D. its a Bulldog with thermals, APFSDS, and a laser range finder. (warning: its not good)
I'll tell you right up that those seemingly totally random and inexplicable bounces are part of why German tanks are, in my opinion, too low in BR in a lot of the WW2 vehicles. That long 88 has no reason to bounce on the normal M4A3 on the desert map. The T-34 hatch bounce was a travesty. The T-14 even though at a weird angle probably never should have bounced any of those shots and it later lead to you being hesitant when seeing a KV-85 even though you probably could have cut right through it's armor. But I get it, it makes you play differently when you can't rely on what the game tells you should occur. Shit like this is why War Thunder will never have a competitive scene beyond a niche crowd and will continue to dwindle in player counts.
I would like to add though, of course the 85mm Russian gun will NEVER FUCKING FAIL to turn any angled plate into strictly whatever thickness it is effectively. Where as every other normal capped and ballistic capped round has a much worse penalty at extreme angles, the Russian 85mm makes the lower side of a Sherman Jumbo penetrate-able even up to like a 75 degree hit angle. It's completely unrealistic and I wish they'd fix that garbage, I've found no basis in reality for that kind of performance. The damn thing's performance against slopes is as good or better than APDS which is a tungsten bullet of much smaller diameter. By the way it works in game, it would have to have a shell tip that is like HESH but somehow totally transfers the energy of the shell into a much better angle of attack while somehow also turning that angle of attack by a huge amount and yet not lose a huge amount of kinetic energy. Like the physics don't add up to me and I've never heard of the Russians having some advanced technology on shell caps or heads that allowed for such a significant improvement against angles and slopes. If anyone knows of a study or test results please, please let me know.| And don't worry, APCR is still totally worthless against angles even though that also wasn't true to any test I've ever seen done on APCR or at least not to the degree the game implements. The APCR in game already does shit post penetration, why do they make it useless against angles and sloping armor? If APCR was the way it is in game, so extraordinarily situational, I doubt anyone would have ever made the fucking things.
Phly: you bounced because the WT meta data showed you killed to many tanks with that life. so to make it fair. your next shot was 100% rubber. Bounce Out yo!
Thank you VERY much for showing some real love to the o'l Nashorn.....she really has been overlooked WAYYYYY too long! Thanx for making my year complete....happy new year Phly.....!
@@squidy4082 With the Tiger 2, you have a fair bit of armour around you and EVERYONE is gunning to kill a Tiger 2....with the old Nashorn....no armor is best!.....just the idiots that play air RB in ground RB targets the open top of the Nashorn like CRAZY! I take the Nashorn into 6.8 br games and with a little luck...I can 1 shot most at that BR.
@@squidy4082 Not saying that the open top is better...it's the biggest drawback! But as you said, the majority of rounds just passes through unless it hits something solid or takes one crewmember with it. But saying that, you do get a much higher top speed and it can turn fairly quickly compared to the sluggish Tiger 2. I'd rather be playing the Nashorn than the Tiger 2!
Like a week ago i played with my panther g and saw somebody on the other side of a desert map, didnt thout too long and came to the conclusion to try the shot. He was pretty far away so i started adjusting for 2.3 kilometers. Tried the shot, hit him, penetrated, killed, triumphed. All first try
Thats a great sound Fx 7:51 LMFAO but i do like when the Nashorn reloads and drops the used shell out the back of the tank :) Oh love getting arty perfectly dropped rite when u repair and on top of that you got the Super dust bowl in the map
artillery rounds use a centrifugal trigger(usually 16-18 spins) the barrel is approx 7-8 spins. the rounds are "live" after 2 barrel lengths. that wasn't 2 lengths. in RL it would've bounced. referance 105mm hammel gun.
A couple of months back I was playing the king tiger and I faced a jumbo, the jumbo reverse against a rock and unangled his front plate and for one or other reason my tiger just kept bouncing on a flat piece of armour! Sometimes warthunder just forget to not be RNG
this game is difficult but feels so good when you play good or accomplish something. i was in my german 1.7 dak in a 3.0 match on my last tank before going to my plane when a money wager event thing came on and it said “highest score by the time ends wins the prize and i went off for 4 kills and a couple good strafes before the time went up and won 23k. felt so good.
14:40 Phly, you're forgetting the "25% chance of bounce" roll Gaijin builds into every shot fired at a Russian tank. I get some tanks have trolly armor and even I benefit from a crazy shot once in a while. But like you said, there is 0 chance of that round bouncing in that spot on a T34, yet we _all_ know not to hit a T34 there because chances are you'll non-pen. After bouncing a weird shot to an SU-85's rear, I found there's a random 700mm bit of armor there right behind the little tank thing on the left side - its not a seam because its not there on the T34 its based on. A couple days ago a KV's track bounced my 76mm from 50ft away.
6:16 1,17 million times 5 million is 5,85 million golden eagles, which rounds up to 5,9-6 trillion golden eagles. You can get 25,000 golden eagles for $165 (USD). 6 trillion divided by 25k golden eagles is 240 million, times $165 (USD) is 39,6 billion USD. Phly must own the global stock markets to pay us all XD
