The main difference between the Schwinn IC3 and IC4 is the mode of resistance. Cycling bikes and treadmills use two major drive systems or modes of operation - friction pad flywheels and magnetic resistance. Here, the Schwinn IC4 operates provides resistance through magnetism while the Schwinn IC3 is equipped with friction pads, also known as flywheel. What this means is, the IC4 is quieter and requires less maintenance since magnetic resistance does not involve a lot of moving parts. The Schwinn IC3 uses friction pads that need to be replaced over time. Additionally, it is not quiet and therefore not the best for home use.
