Schwinn Sting-Ray - A Timeless Kid's Cruiser Bike 

I'm really happy schwinn saw that the 70s are becoming cool and did this.

I bet they sell more if they made an adult scale. We're the ones interested.

Back in 1971 my parents bought my brother a Pea Picker and myself an Apple Krate two of the coolest bikes you could get at that time .

Yes the 70's were cool, and every cool kid had a bike like this. Also the Krate series - would have loved to have one!

I'm 53 now, but I never got to have a Sting-Ray as a kid. The money just wasn't there, and my brother and I were so close in age that whatever I got, a fair case could be made that he would be reasonably capable of the same things, Which he was. My problem throughout our childhood was that I taught him, where if I had just let the chips fall where they may, it probably would have resulted in him having to wait another year. But I was always a good big brother to him, so things like bikes were purchased together. Hence the reason for a Sting-Ray being out of the question. Anyway, I'd probably ride one now if I could, but I don't think the essence would be captured quite as well in an adult sized, say a 26" Sting-Ray. I have a feeling it would be a little too much like one of those beach cruiser types with tall handlebars.

This is a great Bicycle BUT, the bar holding the rear seat keeps breaking at the bolt holes (Bad Design) years ago this bar would not last more than 3-4 months because of the wearing at the bolt holes in the bar cracking. My Dad fixed this issue and actually made a better looking design than Schwinn had, we lived in a small town and the entire towns kids was having the same problem, ( I cannot believe Schwinn didn't know this was happening.) My dad fixed this problem and made his design for everyone that wanted one.

When I was a kid (when these were new), not one of the kids I hung out with would have been caught dead with a helmet. The only exception would have been a WWII helmet. Otherwise FORGET IT! They absolutely do not go with the spirit of these bikes. Not one of us ever got seriously hurt no matter how badly we wiped out.

I'm 37 and about to buy one 😊

Good old bmx days

Been collecting vintage Chicago built Schwinn string rays the last couple years. Snagged a couple of these. If you purchased have them repack all the bearings, they are pretty dry . Something’s are a little cheaply made,but not bad for the price .

I want this sooo badly

I have one (a Coal Krate). The one big letdown on this bike is the single speed hub---this bike is 50 lbs, and needs gears badly just to get out of it's own way. I turned mine into a 6 speed---as heavy as this bike is, I use the low gears a lot

Mine is on its way! July 12 is the big day. Blue also orded a 40" sissy bar and blue sparkel grips. Looking for a blue sparkel seat and some ape hangers. Oh yea!

I got one at Christmas for my granddaughter through Walmart, not the same for sure. China made, no grease on wheel bearings or crankset I had to take it apart and grease everything, that smelly Chinese rubber tires but still a cool looking bike. Wish someone would buy the name back and make them here

Cool bike I remember them well I liked the slick rear tire. But a kid could get a much better bike today for the money. Stingray was awesome for it’s time but today I’d get a trek or cannodale etc

Imo this is a pretty shitty reproduction I have an earlier repro with suspension and one of my friends had one of these and the difference in quality is ridiculous.
