SYNOPSIS: Empress Eura faces her greatest challenge as the ruler of the distant world of Adin when she is forced to choose between trusting or killing a mysterious monster who arrives on Adin with a warning that could save or destroy her people.

One Last Monster is an independent animated short by former Disney/Blue Sky Studios artist Gene Kim. A personal passion project that took 1.5 years to animate by just two animators - Elmer Barcenes and Gene - both handling 10+ minutes of 2D and 3D animation. Its a very thought provoking story. That the empress makes the same mistake as others before her and dooms other worlds the same way. The first invaders who devistated her world was just like her flame and that from fear also become an invader for another worlds. Its a very strong message about fearing others is leads their destruction and also our doom in the end.

@@jimmyhamms4698 Yeah this is the point! Someone create a flame/weapon to defend himself, then its gets loose. Then someone else for response also creates a flame from fear. And its goes on and on until from fear we just see each other as the enemy and in the end nothing will left.

I've never seen such a mix of genres, or styles, or maybe types? I don't even know.... It's like 10 different people made this, all with different ideas, and no one would give an inch. The story, the animation, the mood. Someone made a drama. Someone else wanted it to be sci-fi. Another made it a comedy. Magic, science, tanks, turtles, bows and arrows...it kind of disturbing. Like a collaboration where the creators weren't allowed to let the others know what they were doing but it all got edited together anyway. It's good, for sure. I don't comment on the hundreds of other short films I've watched, and it's a whole story. So it's good. It's just a little off putting trying to figure out how I'm supposed to look at it. I wonder why I haven't come across this before?

@@MadArtistPublishingFilms "Anime style" and "smoothness" are two different things. I'm pretty sure this person is referring to the awkward lip synching and expressions. (And I agree with the original comment - of course there is room for improvement, but as a first animation, it's good.)

Barely got to 10 minutes when I realized that this cartoon displays the ignorance, greed and arrogance of mankind. We choose to fear what we choose not to understand because we choose to accept defeat within ourselves. I couldn't finish watching because I was beginning to feel empathy for the .. uhmm... creature.

The empress was an annoyingly stupid character who honestly didn't even deserve the chance she was given to atone. Word from the wise, don't give fools power. The idea that he could possibly have failed to stop the flame alone made his sacrifice to make her a less competant version of himself seem out of character for how pragmatic he was up until that point. It could be argued that he saw himself in her since he made the same mistake, although it's hard to imagine with what we were given that it was for as stupid of a reason. The premise and overall plot points were really interesting. The facial animations were pretty terrible and the voice acting was mid, but with a little more polish, maybe including some support, this could turn into something worth making an entire series out of.
